  1. Hello Crushdepth,

I’m a happy user of Redhat Fedora Core 2

To select your “flavour” of the different Linux distributions I can suggest you look which distribution has the best support for your hardware. Even the easiest Linux distribution can be very difficult if your hardware is not supported “out-of-the-box”.

If you use ADSL you have to make sure that your ADSL modem works with the Linux distribution. Most UTP Ethernet ADSL modem/routers work without any problems.

For 56k modems, if you have a 56k internal modem it is probably a software modem (also called Softmodem or Winmodem) this will probably not work with Linux or very difficult to install. Most external serial RS-232 modems work without to many problems. (If you are interested I have one external modem for sell)

Last advice I can give is take a look of one of the many Linux forums (http://www.linuxquestions.org is a good one) and look at the selection HCL (hardware compatible list) and the newbie forum.

    With kind regards,

    Richard

  2. Hello MadFrankie,

Okay, I’m sorry that I miss the point; I was thinking that the point was that the BRM-04 router isn’t working and at my side it is working. Therefore I did share my settings; maybe there is a better way….

I’m always open to hear or see somebody else’s his settings, what are your settings for the Planex router?

:o With sharing information we can all learn something

    With kind regards,

    Richard

  3. Hello MadFrankie,

As I write before after this Outbackwifi can login to the router HTTP config screen with IP address 192.168.01, (http://192.168.0.1) Login: Admin and Password: epicrouter (default password) are still the same

Of course Outbackwifi can also call the Thai distributor of Planex Communications where he probably will hear the same story.

    Optimus (Thailand) Co., Ltd.

    49/6 Soi Boonchusri, Dindaeng Rd.,

    Phayathai, Bangkok 10400 Thailand

    Tel: (66)-2644-8216, Fax: (66)-2245-5362

  4. Hello Outbackwifi,

Install your PCI BRM-04 ADSL Modem/router to the network.

Open Internet Explorer or other browser, and type the default IP address of the router. (For the Planex BRM-04 is this http://10.0.0.2 default)

Login: Admin Password: epicrouter (default password)

You have your ADSL up-link already running, we can skip that part.

Go to LAN settings, and change the Modem/Router default IP address to IP 192.168.0.1 Subnet 255.255.255.0

(After this you can login to the router HTTP config screen with IP address 192.168.01)

Login: Admin Password: epicrouter (default password) are still the same

Save this settings en click on reboot, depending on which firmware you have you get a warning message or not. (Click Submit / OK)

Open your Windows LAN connection, and change the IP address to 192.168.0.9 subnet 255.255.255.0 for gateway you select 192.168.0.1

    DNS 1) 203.144.225.244, DNS 2) 203.144.225.72

(Not use DNS server 203.144.225.71 this DNS server is used for some ClickTA and AsiaNet 56K modem dialup connections.)

For other computers in the network, only change the IP addresses 192.168.0.XXX and everything else stays the same.

With these settings your network computers are able to connect to the Internet.

  5. Hello Outbackwifi,

Just sell the modem/router for a nice price to me and you not lose face.

On the other hand what is the (Ethernet) IP address of your Modem/router? What IP addresses are the computers using in the network? And can you give me your Windows lan settings?

If you can give me this information I have you online in 10 minutes...or less...

By the way your ADSL link is up and running, so the problem is not with True.

    With kind regards,

    Richard

  6. Hello people,

I have a D-Link DSL-500G ADSL router/modem (from D-link Thailand) and would like to install this with TA/True ADSL.

Can somebody give me some pointers or better the whole “hot-to-install” it is all very confusing for me.

    With kind regards,

    Richard

  7. Hello Pattani,

I not use Thunderbird, but I think it is not much different then Mozilla browser.

Go to “Edit” in the main menu, select “Preferences” then go to “Navigator” and select “Languages”. If everything is right you will see a option “Default Character Encoding” change this to “Thai TIS-62” or Thai Windows-874”.

This will do the trick; it is also a good idea to “add” Thai to “Languages for Web Pages”

    With kind regards,

    Richard

  8. Hmmm,

I understand they want to close websites like Thaivisa because indirect they get (like many useful Thai websites) there income from advertising, so blocking the advertising they kill in some way the income of this (Thai) website owners.

:o Good idea Thai help Thai, this is the way to go.......

  9. Hello People,

True is blocking websites not on basis of indecent or of Adult nature, just common websites. :o

Of course this is totally unacceptable, they now control what news we read what websites we visit….

Parts of the Google website are not available? Common websites with information are blocked?

What is wrong with them, if they want to block websites why they not concentrate on adult websites?

For new ADSL subscribers I will say go for TOT or another….this is really bad……….

Is True run by the Communist Party……..

  10. Dear Butterfly,

You are pretty up-to-date it is almost 2 years ago that IBM made his last hard drive, and this hard drive's had only the name IBM and where made by Hitachi.

IBM sold 2 years ago the whole hard drive division to Hitachi.

And I can agree that Western Digital is not the most reliable hard drive vendor for low-end drives. Drives from WD are less tolerant on temperature, power fluctuations and slave – master settings. The positive aspect of this drives is that they are relative cheap to performance.

Drives from Seagate are most reliable, produce less heat and have a high tolerance on there power consumption. But there low-end drives are surely not the fastest drives around.

Hitachi is a good alternative, but good dives come at a higher price. But even Hitachi is not perfect they still bridge there SATA interface from ATA. So expect no native SATA speeds or Command Queuing from a Hitachi drive. With most computers out there today no problem…..

Back to the original post, I still advice that ASTRAL checks his power supply….

  11. Hello Ian,

You not have to invest into new hardware, you can install a 3th party software Firewall from Zonelabs (http://www.zonelabs.com) or Tiny Software (http://www.tinysoftware.com).

There are many other Firewall programs out there but I know from ZoneAlarm Pro 5.1.011 and Tiny Personal Firewall 6 that they are WinXP SP2 compatible.

    With kind regards,

    Richard

P.S. One advice to everybody, please don’t trust the Firewall in SP2 and install some additional software.

  12. People,

Serious, Western Digital is one of the most sold hard drive brand names in Thailand and around the world.

Because one hard drive from one customer has problems, we start a discussion about this?

If this customer has 2x times the same problem with his computer, I would advice that he let somebody check his power supply. As that is probably the main course of the problem.

Replacing the result of the problem doesn’t fix the source of problem, and probably he is back at his computer shop in a few months.

As hard drive get more advanced they also have less tolerance of power fluctuations.

    With kind regards,

    Richard

  13. Hello Kringle,

I sometimes get the same “Do you Yahoo” text, mostly when I try to open email.

The problem is a bit complicated and has nothing to do with your computer, it has to do more with the IP address that you using (sorry you cannot change that). Yahoo using the IP address of it users to connect them to the right server, I guess you use True ADSL which sometimes give you a 61.90.28.XXX IP address Yahoo doesn’t recognize this as a Thai IP address (for the moment).

If you have free international True connect you can easily type http://mail.yahoo.com or remove “/?.intl=us” from the URL and you are able to login.

    With kind regards,

    Richard
