  1. I think the authorities have done a great job considering the scale of this flood. It was a good effort to keep the water at bay and everybody got involved and have been helping each other out. Around the country donations for the relief effort are pouring in and the Thai people definitely have a handle on this. I doubt there will be much more loss of life. It's great to see how people come together in times of crisis. The spirit of the Thai people is the reason I love Thailand.

To all you cranky expats, have you donated any Baht? If not, do so.

  2. you are ALL WRONG

its about building large condo's 150 meters from the sea

    work it out

This is the only intelligent comment I have read.

The erosion up towards Naklua end of Pattaya beach is getting pretty bad, to the point where it is dangerous. This is good news, and has to be done anyway. The beach walk needs some serious rejuvenation, especially the northern end. The ongoing cost of this will be huge, but it is nothing compared to the cost of lost tourism revenue.

  3. The SMS I got from Thai Visa read "Bangkok Administration plans to turn capital into an alcohol free zone".

An honest mistake, or a ploy to get like a gazillion panicking people to log onto the website?

    Yes... I panicked (lol)

But I expect it will be business as usual inside bars and gogo's

  4. I hope the owner and his wife are able to get out of this mess - it has 'setup' written all over it. Billabong bar is a great place for a drink and the staff are very friendly. I always stop by for a drink or one their great breakfasts on my visits to Pattaya. I would hate to see the bar sold to another operator as it would lose a lot of its character. Best wishes to Greg and his wife and all of the staff.

  5. I am amazed at the 'lynch mob' on this forum ready to execute this guy - so many negative comments with so few positive ones. I agree he was silly to be smoking marijuana in public - I just hope he is able to just pay a fine and not be thrown in the Bangkok Hilton. I suspect if he knew the consequences of his actions but still blatantly lit up, then maybe he was trying to set himself up as a martyr for pot smokers everywhere by 'being given life imprisonment for smoking a joint'. Yes I think he is crazy, but I hope he gets away with it.

Just yesterday I was walking along Beach Road and was surprised to see two locals sitting on one of the benches sharing a joint - I couldn't see any BIB around. Further down the road towards Walking Street I was offered some by a tout - I just kept walking. For all I know, these guys could be set up as some sort of entrapment scam with the BIB - they do this in Indonesia. I think I'll stick to a couple of beers to relax.

P.S. I haven't smoked pot for a long time and am a lot wealthier, healthier and happier for it.

  6. I have fallen in love with Thailand and its culture. It will be my main destination for the next few years. Yes, I partake in the sex industry, but I also have sex with ladies in other countries too. Even when I am in my own country, I have regular sex with women (shock, horror). But I also like to travel, see new places, experience the wonderful food and customs. I am not a cheap charlie - I spend a lot of money and like to have a good time. If I am not seen as a 'quality' tourist and I feel that I am not as welcome in LOS as I am now, then I guess I will spend my vacation elsewhere.

It doesn't matter where you are in the world, there always seems to be a few idiots in government.

  7. Wow! I hope I don't have to put up with this kind of whinging on my next visit - I'll be paying the bin and walking out of the bar. What a funny post - farangs whining about other foreigners. I wonder how much the Thais whinge about farangs? As was said previously, you should focus on respecting the host country and allow them to show you a good time. If you are no longer having a good time because of others it may be time to find another holiday destination.

p.s. I wonder if there are any good Russian restaurants?

  8. Most of the advertised signs in Pattaya state 1000฿ BKK to Pattaya, 800฿ Pattaya to BKK. Plenty of private cars around and I bet you could negotiate a 100฿ discount although I have never bothered to try. Find a guy you like and stick with him. Mr T is good and here is his 'nephew' P.T. Taxi.
