  1. 3 things :

people who allow themselves to be ripped by tuk tuks are their own enemies - you have a mouth to ask prices/negotiate , forums to research prices , mopeds to rent , or legs to walk . always works for me in thailand ! when i encountered high prices [each day] quoted i laughed and kept on walking . 400bht for a 300m journey was my best quote lol .

people sounding off about thai being expensive and offering langkawi and penang as alternatives makes me laugh ! penang and langkawi is really expensive for drink . drink and hotels arent exactly cheap , and when comparing pen/lgk to thai beaches and thai oceans its no contest ... pen/lgk are a million miles away from thai standards . id pay double to go to thai over malaysia . £20 fora bottle of cheapest wine and £4 for a beer ... taxi to thailand please .

thai is well cheaper than back home tuk tuk price or not .

im not defending tuk tuks , but tourists give them the money . if they didnt they wouldnt charge that much .

  2. 3 weeks ago i got out of a shuttle bus at novotel hotel patong/kalim , and as i had few bags/cases i asked how much to "white box" .

the tuk tuk said 400 !!!! i said its not far and thats too much , he said no no no its very far .

i said its not to which he still argued ... so i turned round the sat nav with "1 minute / 500m" on the screen - he had no answer for that .

so he gave me abuse in thai , and i laughed at him and just walked , practically just round the corner .

they must be loaded those guys turning fares down .

    Sawasdee ka Khun Rob,

Thank you very much for your email and Video…

I feel so sad after I saw this video.

I will forward this to Government organization in Phuket that we work with,

National Park, Marine and Coastal Resources Conservation Center,

Natural Resources and Environment office, and try to find out what we could do to stop this…

I also know some hotels around that area. I will try to check who did it.

We can’t let something like this happen in Phuket.

If you have more information or any update situation in that area,

Pls contact me by email or mobile phone.

And if you find they do something like this again.

Pls call me! I will bring some government organization to see this.

    Best Regards,

    Aim

  4. your looking at all the very expensive deluxe hotels in phuket laguna near golf course down to bang tao incl pavillions £££ which pretty much overlooks the digging spot ... laguna club , best western , outrigger , amora , palm beach , sunwing , dusit thani , kris , and many more etc in area .

and the building of the immense new shangri la which has foundations laid for a couple of years but stalled is right on top of it .

mai khao turtle sanctuary signs a few miles up the road state the following timelines for the breaking down man mad rubbish , its on their great signs displayed on promenade road :

glass bottles : 1 million years

    plastic bags 20-1000 years

    aluminium cans 80-100 years

    nylon [fishing lines] 30-40 years

    cigarette butts 1-5 years

    foam packaging/floatation - never breaks down !
