  1. Try the Photo Hut store, in either of the Tesco Malls (Lamai and Chawang, close to Home Pro ramp in Chawang)....

only Pentax dealers on Island. They may have to bring in.... ? With BKK floods that could disrupt ability to ship...

Nope, been there already. Both locations. Only basic stuff there. But thanks for the suggestion.

I have a border run next week so maybe I will just go to Penang.

Yeah, suspected that, they never have much inventory of anything.... mind you it's same for Canon, here....

Choices in Malaysia generally better, but not always cheaper... I noticed that last July.... but some times better a bird in the hand than one in a bush! :) ...and some things one needs to touch and feel before buying.... <_<

    dam_n right.

  3. That's all well and good- nice sentiments.

But weren't there a great many red protesters there for the sole purpose of getting Thaksin back? And they knew it. "Why are you here?" - "THAKSIN!"

Surely there was more than 1 silly Thaksin mask among them.

All that other drivel doesn't compute.

    Am I right or wrong?

  4. a couple of months ago?

Had you been in Thailand more than 90 days in the preceding 6 months?

you also mean Visa exempt entry not visa on arrival.

I was on a Non B visa for Thailand till it ran out, moved to Laos and tried to visit Thailand 1 month later.

The immigration officer just asked where my visa was, I said I didn't have one, so I was sent back to Laos.

  5. I was refused entry into Thailand coming from Laos via the Friendship Bridge a couple of months ago. I had to go back to Vientiane and buy a tourist visa for my 5 day Thai visit. What happened to "visa on arrival"? I have a USA passport, and live and work in Laos. I would like to go to Thailand for short visits on a regular basis, but I cannot afford to buy a tourist visa every time(not to mention the 2+ hour wait at the consulate in a room where we were not allowed to talk). Is "visa on arrival" finished at the borders, or was the Thai immigration officer just having a bad day?

  6. Great! Now I'm REALLY homesick! I'm still stuck in the US for another month.

I do similar things in Samui, sometimes successful, sometimes not. I've seen a million publications come and go, but yours is visually the most solid, almost a textbook on magazine design! Very inspiring! I hope it is a big success!

  7. Why would they (Thaksins) cooperate with a military appointed commission when it was the military who committed the crime that installed the commission in the first place? If the Thaksins have an ounce of decency (debatable), they will wait until after an election to participate in any investigations or legal proceedings. An illegal mad dictator does not constitute a legitimate government, even if his first name is General.

Even so, the government is still the law of the land. Does this mean that we ALL can ignore their rule? Or just Thaksin? Seems a bit unfair that I still have to pay my taxes and obey the law while Thaksin doesn't. Well I guess Thai Law doesn't apply to him, but does to me, no matter how "illegal" the rulers are. Something just does not seem right...

  8. 3 mil? well, you can use 2 mill of that and put it in an unusable account and get a work permit in exchange.(after all the red tape BS). Then you can actually make money in Samui! (or loose it all on a poorly conceived business). You can also make money flying under the radar, but that is something i know NOTHING about, so don't ask.

I too, am sick of my yearly 6 month money drain, only to sulk back to the States to suffer away from my lady to earn that severely devalued US dollar for 6 months so I can return. At least you guys from Europe and England, etc are riding high on a great exchange rate.

  9. Great 2- 3 bedroom houses in Lamai, just by the river, 5 min walk to dead center Lamai. Very quiet at night. Fully furnished, UVC (satalight TV)if wanted, hot water, lots of space, AC, a GREAT landlord... the place is supurb! A bit pricey at 16000 B /MO 2 bedroom, 20000 B/ MO 3 bedroom, but worth it. We didn't even have to buy a spoon- includes everything, from a (rare in THailand) gas oven to an electric rice cooker, etc...

The place is called "Hawaii Village" and is home to many successful Ko Samui expats.

  10. What I don't understand is why so many posters on this board are so concerned with the children's EGOS as to develope such a hatered of them.

    Inform us.

Who on this forum hate them? :o

Sorry, it's just all the extremely negative posts about "know it all kids" and such just leads me to believe many have very negative feelings about these kids. Obviously people wouldn't post such stuff if it wern't so. Maybe it is not "hatred", but rather "contempt". And this "contempt" seems to be directed toward the kid's "know it all ego".

I just want to know why? :D

  11. Been to it 2 times in the last 5 years or so. Not my style, but I went with friends who wanted to go. I suggest staying on KPG rather than taking the boat from Samui. That boat ride back the morning after REALLY SUCKS after a night of Tequelia. My head hurts just thinking about it.

But the party is kind of fun for a while. You will see some bizzare sights. Yes, it is children making ididiots of themselves, but that's entertaining.

  12. Yankees SUCK!

    Red Sox RULE! :o

I think it was "my daddy" who said that. :D

THe BABE do you no good. The BABE is dead.

But really, I am as shocked as you are, Narachon----but in a GOOD WAY :D:D

Records broken for greatest comeback, AND greatest wossy chocking -_-

Next up : SUNDAY ! The Pats try to break the OFFICIAL reg. season record!! Ironically against a NY team!

Too bad I will miss the game. THat's the day I fly from Boston to Bangkok after a LONG 7 months away from Thailand.

So where is a good place to watch the WORLD SERIES in Bangkok? I'll have my RED SOX hat on! :D

  13. Oh Yeah- Don't forget to make sure that the person you buy land from actually ownes the land. Soome people may THINK they own the land, but it is actually government land or the land of another family. Land title deeds are non-existant in many villages and that only adds to the confusion. THe gov is slow at handing out deeds, but at least they are starting to.

  14. The beautiful tomatoes I grew only got 10 B per kilo. (I think it was the time of year). So I said Screw this bs. THe money is not worth the investment in time and work. Raising pigs is the way to go! Because of this chicken flu thing, the price of pork is high! Of course, anywhere you go everyone will know you are a pig farmer. men maak!

Finding people who want to sell some farm land is easy, as long as you know someone in Issan. The word will spread quickly that a farlang wants to buy farm land and the offers will come rolling in. They usually will want to charge 2-5 times it's actual value. There is a LOT of land in Issan that floods during the rainy season, so it is best to inspect the land at that time. Otherwise, you may have to pay for a lot of landfill, especially if you want to build a house.
