Right! Moped =motorized petal (bike). I also have wondered why scooters are sometimes called mopeds.

In the UK it refers to a motorcycle of less than 50cc. Originally by law they had to be equipped with pedals, but this got dropped many years ago. The current ones there look very similar to the scooters in Thailand. The only reason they are popular in the UK is you can ride them at 16. where as a bigger bike or car is 17

  2. My wife took her settlement visa application to VFS in BKK today. The staff there said she needs her IHS number. It was 4am UK time, I was fast asleep and my phone was downstairs. They told her I could email it too them but didn't give her an address. I have tried using the UKVI contact address but am going round in circles with the. Also some how I just noticed on the application form I have put down the wrong date of exit for a visitor visa she was on 3.5 years ago, somehow it says December 2015, I am sure I entered it correctly, how can I change that now the application is submitted?

  3. In a word, yes and probably more than it is worth. If you had lots of high value items you could use a shipping company and they would negotiate customs for you and minimise the duty. Thai customs are jobsworths and as corrupt as any other public service in Thailand. I just got stung. I sent the papers for my wife's visa application and stupidly put a value of £25 to cover the cost of replacement documents in case they got lost, net result, wifey gets a 600b customs bill before DHL would release the package

  4. Currently any pass which has previously been used in a successful visa or leave to remain application can be used again in any subsequent one, provided it is the required grade of course; even if the pass certificate has expired or the provider is no longer on the approved list.

I say 'currently' because, of course, the government could change this in the future, so check before applying.

Yes I am sure they will close that one up soon, anything to make life more difficult:bah:

  5. Personally I think it is reasonable, my wife struggled to get her A1 in the new IELTS test, having previously passed with BULATS, this has put an enormous delay in her getting a visa. She lives in a very small village in Issan and there are no English speakers there so her chances to practice, apart from our weekly Skype chats, are non-existent. It took 9 months of 1 on 1 tuition to get her to pass. I hope that 30 months here will get her to A2, the .gov website doesn't say what happens if she were to fail..... Surely once here she can't be deported?

  6. I was speaking with an agent the other day about a visa for my girlfriend for the UK, she told me things had really 'tightened up' and it was becoming very difficult to obtain one ?

My problem is whilst I own a property in the UK it's rented out, I am 64 and have retired, I have more than sufficient funds in the bank? My Thai lady, 38 doesn't work, own a property etc so I didn't even bother to take it any further, I was looking at a Visitors Visa.

My wife had a visitor visa rejected last year, having previously had one approved. Their reasons were all trivial and would have easily applied to the first one. So yes there does seem to be a tightening up going on, even though there is no official change, the must have been instructed to be more picky!!!
