At Jomtien 30 days - maybe a bit longer with flight tickets etc. Some offices 45 days - 3 months I would say a definite no.
Thanks for a helpful answer!

I usually apply for my extension a few weeks before the expiry, but for practical reasons I would like to apply earlier this year. Does anybody know how early I can apply? Somebody told me 3 months before the expiry date of my visa extension. Could that be correct? If it matters, it’s at Jomtien.

If you showed the monthly inflow to your Thai bank why would they want to see a similar inflow to your home country bank?
What if all you are doing is funding the inflow to your Thai bank from savings domiciled in your home country?
It seems to me that if you receive a regular pension/income you may use the "at least 65.000 monthly income method", but if you have savings in your home country they would prefer 800.000 of those to be put in Thai banks which would allow you to use the easier "800.000 in the bank" method.

Ha, didn't even dare to begin speculating. I guess either an agent or start a new retirement visa process in my home country, but there may be other options I'm not aware of. I'm not even interested in going/retiring anywhere else, as all things considered Thailand is (for me) the place I want to be.

Did this specifically identify each 65k transfer as having originated from abroad by being labelled "FOREIGN T/T" or similar?
Yes, Kasikorn (happens to be my bank) uses specific codes which identifies foreign incoming transactions.

By Bank statement, did you mean a Thai bank statement or a foreign (eg USA) bank statement?
Did you need to pay for the bank statement printout? Why can't they accept bank book?
A Thai bank statement. I need to prove the money enters Thailand, and that can only be done through a Thai bank (at least according to immigration rules). The statement cost me a few hundred baht, don't remember exactly. A statement is signed off by the bank, whereas a bank book is updated by a machine and can be falsified (I assume that's the reason Immigration requires a statement, as well as seeing the bank book). In my case, I hadn't updated the bankbook during the year so it wouldn't be of much use anyway.

No it does not.
They are completely separate issues.
That was also my understanding. Anyways, the lady who took my 90-day report did not say that I did not need to do it or look surprised when she saw my passport with the new stamp.

Yes, I had a bank statement detailing all transactions for the last year (12 pages!) but as explained two of those months were without income.
As for the question of showing up with money in the bank next time, I think it wasn't meant as a directive, more as a way of getting less hassle (especially for the IO).

I just received my retirement extension stamp in Jomtien. I'm from one of the countries whose embassies are not doing income letters. I applied based on monthly income of more than 65000. Even though there were two cases where my pension arrived on the last day of the previous month and where I therefore technically had no income to show during the month in question, the lady (not an IO) doing the checking accepted it.
She also asked for a paper showing what amount of pension I received in my home country (which I luckily had), and a bankbook updated to the same day as well as a guarantee statement from the bank, which I went to a nearby Kasikorn and got without problems (I hadn't prepared this because I thought a bank guarantee and passbook update were only required if I had used the 800.000 in the bank method and had to prove that the money was still there).
In the end, she gave me a paper to sign with a sort of summary of the new rules in unclear English and told me that I might be required to come in in June and show my bankbook to an officer. Why that would be the case, given that I used the monthly income method, remained unclear and maybe she just mixed up the two methods (or was told to tell all applicants this), but there were no clear instructions as to why and what documents I should bring. At this point, I plan to just ignore this, since I'm not in Thailand in June anyway.
I was also told that next time I should plan to use the money in the bank method, which was so much easier for both parties. I readily agreed and might actually want to switch (but this time I just did not have the funds in the bank).
Was there in the morning at 8 am on Tuesday, left by 9.30, and by 1 pm the next day the passport was ready to pick up. I did my 90-day report in person Wednesday after getting my passport back, as well as the re-entry permit, and it took less than an hour to do both.

When you apply for the extension using wife's house as your residence is proven by her house book for it.
A witness may be needed by Jomtien immigration to prove you are living together at her house.
Thanks ubonjoe, but a few questions: How is that proven, since my name is not in her house book?
And would we indicate the name of a neighbor they can contact, or how does this witness thing work?

Could someone enlighten me on what sort of proof or residency (if any) I need for extension based on marriage? I’ve used retirement for the last five years, but decided that this year I would change to the marriage option. Wife is living in her house and I generally stay in a condo which I am paying installments for and will become the owne of later this year. So my plan would be to state that I am living with the wife when I apply for marriage extension. Do I need to be entered in the yellow house book of hers or will the marriage certificate, photos and maps be considered sufficient evidence? If It matters, the immigration we will be using is Jomtien.

Sheryl, thanks so much for your advice. I will seek counselling. Lumpini, I will explore your links shortly, thanks, and to inbangkok, re the difference between addiction and dependancy, am I right in guessing that addiction is being physically dependant on the substance whereas dependance is more of a psychological nature?

Thanks to all posters for this interesting topic which has made me realize I have an addiction problem. I've been taking 1mg Ativan (lorazepam) for 7+ years to help with insomnia. After reading the Ashton manual I would like to go for a substitution taper.
My question is: where do I find a doctor who has knowledge or at least will be sympathetic to the idea and prescribe the necessary medicine? I can come up with a plan myself based on Ashton's manual but I obviously need a doctor's consent.
I live in Bangkok so if anybody can recommend a hospital doctor here to consult in this matter, I would be very grateful.

Ubonjoe, thank you for your answers. I think you got me mixed up with somebody else in your last reply. I do not need to change passport. Anyway, I think the safest option for me is to actually apply for a 1 year extension of stay on my current 90 day entry and at the same time apply for a re-entry permit to bring me back into the country.
When I have my extension of stay (this will be my first!) can I then enter end exit Thailand freely or would I need to have it covered by applying for a multiple re-entry permit?
If so, it would make more sense to apply for that multiple re-entry permit already now, right?
-
Bonnie and TerryLH, thanks for your answers.
Does this mean that if I get a re-entry permit and do a border run my date of return would automatically be set to 90 days from the date of re-entry, irrespective of the expiry date of my visa?
With regard to option 1, my current permission to stay expires on April 3. Can I apply for a 1 year extension sometime in March and would that then be valid until sometime in March 2015? Is an extension multiple-entry or do I need to apply separately for that?

I have a question regarding non-O visa extension. I am sure it has been asked many times before, but I can't find clear information about this particular problem elsewhere, so would appreciate any answers here.
I have a multiple entry non-O visa from my home country which is valid until Aug 14 2014. I would like to apply for extension based on retirement when the visa expires. Not quite sure that is the correct wording, but my home country Thai embassy told me that they would not do a non-O A visa, and that I should apply to Immigration in Thailand when my current visa expires in order to obtain a one year extension of stay permit (presumably based on retirement). Is this understanding correct or did I mix things up here?
The timing is not the best for me as I would ideally leave Thailand to visit my home country between June and September. So I would not be in Thailand mid August when the visa expires. Can the O visa be extended (say 3 months) and can I then later (in October/November) apply for a retirement-based extension?
How early can I apply for the yearly retirement extension
