I keep reading conflicting opinions on the best way to travel from Bangkok to Siem Reap.
My main concern is I don't want to have any hassle at the border.
What do you people think?
thanks

VungTau is a great place to visit. We took the hydro foil out of HCM. They leave all the time different companies different times, same price for the three of them. We had no problems. Stayed at a hotel called the Ruby booked through Agoda. I think it was like $6 bucks a night clean and built in 2010. We were a short half a block to the beach. On the weekend the beach fills with locals and is a great and friendly place to party. There is two casino's in town with free food and drinks if your gambling. Oh yeah on the beach at night its fun to watch the locals fish and share a beer with them. I would totally go back there. Super friendly, felt safe, never once got ripped off by a taxi. We were there for a couple weeks in March of this year.

Thanks for the input folks. We probably wouldn't stay the entire time in Chang Mai. Just need a home base to leave most of the luggage and take jaunts from there. Samui is great with awesome beaches, just looking to change things up...any other tips suggestions would be great.
thanks again

i'm staying at the opium and am very pleased, but it is long term. you gave no indication of length of time here, in city or out of city or other details.
What are you paying monthly?

Hi we have been wintering in Samui for about 5 years now. We have never been to Chiang Mai but we're thinking of re-locating this year. So here are some of my questions..
1. What would one expect to pay for a low end clean bungalow, one bedroom? possibly with a pool, walking distance to night market, store?
2. Any good dentists? Hubby will need dental surgery done this winter.
3. What's the weather like Dec- March?
4. Back to the housing question, whats a good area? Not too touristy but not too quiet..
5. Doesn't have to be a bungalow can also be a condo or apartment with fridge and hotplate type cooking device.
thanks Carol

I have a rather large scrape on my knee from a bike accident. I have been cleaning it with peroxide and applying anti-biotics. I am getting conflicting advice as to whether it's safe to swim in the ocean.
Any advise maybe with some backup reference would be appreciated.
thanks

As mentioned above, Vung Tau is a good option. Make sure you take the hydrofoil, It's quicker and much safer then by road. Nha Trang has nicer beached but it is a long dangerous drive.
If you go to Vung Tao by hydrofoil make sure you get a return ticket in HCMC as when you want to purchase in VT they are 'sold out' and only available at a premum from other terminal staff.
Not sure how long we are going to stay in Vung tau. Is the return ticket open ended?

Rather then get a Thai Visa extension we were thinking of going to Vietnam for the final weeks of our trip. We would fly out of BKK and land in Ho Chi Minh City. That is the extent of where I know what to do. Where is a good beach and how do we get there at Mekong Delta. We are looking for budget on the beach nothing fancy. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also name of hotels bungalows if anyone has stayed there. Don't need fancy nightlife but close to a few shops and night markets or 7-elevens would be great.
thanks
We are leaving Thailand close to the end of March

what about koh phangan?
one would think you might have checked that out, it was only a half hour away
checked out Phanghan in 2010 didn't really do anything for us...

We've been known to stop at the local bars and have a beer or two or three but nightlife isn't a big concern... We are going to head over to Koh Chang the end of this month...do you think we should reserve something or just wing it?
thanks again
It can get quite busy, but there is an abundance of accommodation. I can give you some suggestions, if you say your budget, and what type of place you want to stay. I have no business affiliation with any of the places.
We are of the lowest budget as long as the place is clean and we can walk to the beach and possibly 7-11 or other shop with beverages and snacks... not too secluded but definitely not Pataya like...

We are looking to take a short trip maybe a couple weeks Bangkok to Ho Chi MInh and return. Do we need any special visa's? We have Canadian passports.
Thanks

We've been wintering on Samui for some years now, we rent a bungalow in Maenam. Been thinking of trying out the other two islands. Has anyone here spent time on all three or any of the other ones. I was just wondering how they were in comparison?
beaches
crowds
accomodations
amenities
transportation
internet
any ideas or observations are appreciated. Also what area you stayed on the islands.
Thanks

I was wondering with a double entry visa (Canadian passport) staying 150 days, should one do the border run after the first 60 days or do 60 days get a thirty day extension then do the border run?
thanks

The Grand Palace dress code
in Bangkok
Posted
So we're thinking of checking out The Grand Palace. I've been reading about the dress code and was wondering how strictly they are adhered to? Does anyone know if knee length shorts for a woman would be OK? How about a blouse with sleeves to your elbows?
thank you in advance
