I'm wondering what Thai's usually think about or ask when they are praying? Does anyone know?
-
Does anyone know if there are new regulations regarding the "slash and burn" agriculture that has caused the reduction of smoke in the air for this year?

That's not just me???

And the roads are cleaner and grippyer making driving and riding safer.

...and this year Leo beer started giving people headaches.
There's a few of us in pain. Only takes 2 for me to start feeling some head squeeze..
I can drink Heineken all night and wake up feeling alright. I figure if im going to spend 1000 baht drinking, might as well spend 1200 baht and not suffer instead.
I have also been getting headaches from my beloved Leo. Have made the switch to Singha.
Perhaps, it's a little Formaldehyde like I heard was in Beer Chang that causes headaches?

seems like Thai officials can take some of that tourism promotional money and use it towards protecting the people and/or working on a vaccine...or would that be too simple?

Spending 8 billion baht (280 Million USD) to make 4 billion (140 Million USD) in revenue makes sense to me...OIT (Only In Thailand)
It will be a miracle if they ever get their investment back, especially after so many pockets being lined first...

There are things I've learned in Thailand (through other people's lessons):
Rent it.
Never outlive your usefulness; don't buy something outright for the full balance.
In order to make a small fortune, you must bring a large fortune.
You're welcome to invest in Thailand, just don't plan on taking it out.
This takes care of most things in the land of smiles...

I agree...it's just so sad when _anyone_ uses love (or the idea of it) to swindle another for money.
-
The biggest problem, in my opinion, is the law of supply and demand...of course, it's a low wage, but there are 10 more Thais to fill that position (and probably happy to even find a job) when an open spot is available. I also agree with some of the other posters in voting with their feet...if they don't like it, find another job. However, that is easier said than done during these hard economic times...so many Thais caught between a rock and a hard place...
Just my two cents...er, three cents after inflation...
-
Be it less drivers on the road or some extra effort against drunk/unsafe drivers/riders, it's a start for less deaths...and less sadness for the their families/friends...
-
Seems to me that this guy must have been going pretty fast to have broken his leg by "falling off" at the last moment before the machine crashed into the rocks...
And, another thing...most of us know...the foreigner almost always pays...and pays dearly...nuff said.
-
I agree.....ban all people!
Yes, starting with the drunk drivers...

Am I mistaken or is'nt the proposed salary at least 200% + greater than what English teachers here generally mak?
The going rate (at least from a year ago) was about 26K - 35K/month for teaching English (full-time), so 83K/month is rather significant. I was working part time teaching English in Chiang Mai for about 15-19K/month. From what I know, that's more than a lot of Thai doctors and more than is paid in an even higher-developing country like South Korea, which pays about 60-70K Baht/month.
If you ask me, something is off on their numbers for such an increase in salaries.
TBD in time...

saving energy can also be a lots of fun. Maybe there should be a focus on that.
Turning the A/C (refrigerator setting) off on all the buses would save a ton in fuel costs and lower pollution, too.

Darrel, I know many expats in Thailand who are perfectly efficient and competent in their jobs and are working in Thailand simply because they really like Thailand, Thai people, Thai food, lifestyle, tropical islands, jungle, mountains, temples, etc, etc.
In fact, I am in Australia just now and am amazed at the incompetent fools I run into here every single day. Especially those running the country and local governments.
I have, in fact, met some of the most brilliantly intelligent, creative, productive and hard working people anywhere in the world right in Thailand.
I have lived and worked in many countries and find that in Thailand I meet the most interesting people.
I don't know where you are coming from mate, but I sure know I don't want to go there.
Just my five Bahts worth is all.
Cheers and no insult intended.
Yeah, I have to agree; I've met _many_ great, successful people every time I come to Thailand. In fact, I remain friends with some of them and feel that the country attracts an overall, interesting, extraordinary crowd. That being said, there's always that certain percentage of rotten apples in any bunch, where ever it is in the world.
And, that's my one Baht worth...

millions of wind farms won't cut it
Actually, they would. Easily.
Add solar, PV, waves, tidal power.
And guess what?
No risk of radiation, no radioactive waste for millions of years, no explosions!
I prefer that, how about you?
You would think that engineers around the world would be creating more efficient versions of these safe power sources( and I believe they are trying), however, it usually seems that the all-mighty bottom line rules and for nuclear power, there's more bang for the buck...no pun intended. It's easy to vote (and I personally do) for safe energy, but it's not always a simple formula.
Here's food for thought, an article on...
Nuclear Vs Solar Energy, Which?

So he wasn't robbed then? Thus the motive for murder was something else? Who carries around 22k baht (unless you are going to buy something expensive but then you can get a bank cheque or use a credit/debit card).
And, 22K Baht at 10 PM...makes me wonder a bit, however, he was a businessman so that amount wouldn't be so extraordinary. Again, the motive doesn't look like a typical robbing, but something with intent, especially with the size of an 11 MM shelled gun. Revenge, jealousy, bad business dealing, who knows?
That being said, it's still another sad story with unfortunate results in the LOS.

So this man says that the Thai tourism industry is in dire need of promotion, yet TAT report target busting figures this high season.
One of them is correct.
Or...they are both correct with the excluded fact that people (including the more affluent Asian and Middle-Eastern Tourists who are supposedly spending more) are not spending as much as they hope for...welcome to the global economic crisis...we're STILL not in Kansas, anymore. Sure, I'd love the visa waiver, especially when I am _already_ planning on going back to Thailand.

Socio-economically, it seems that, like in most parts of the world, Thailand will experience an increasing squeeze of the middle class, with the dominant owning class ruling the working class...
-
That's pretty funny...but I think the taxes were a bit on the low side. haha :-)
-
It is good to have monitoring and reporting, but what is going to be done about it? Nothing, as usual.
And, this seems to happen year after year after year...without fail...mai pen rai, right?
The people will have to rise up to make the difference, not only in Thailand, but in bordering countries as well...

I was a cop, a detective at that, and I've met a fair share of Thai "detectives" in the last few years.Spent hours talking with them.
Simply put, they generally possess a total lack of even rudimentary training and couldn't detect an elephant in a life raft.
So, in many cases, it's not that they are "covering something up," it's that they lack the skills, techniques, experience and facilities to uncover anything. Therefore it is easier to claim it a coincidence than to admit they are stymied, and are clueless as to what to do next.
It's more the old "saving face" thing than mai pen rai.
And, that would take a lot of effort on their part, too...to uncover the truth.

And, where are the photos of the Thai flight crew so we can really see this serious issue? :-)
Here's a related story:
