  1. Three years and 20,000 baht is a sad joke, given what occurred in this episode...

But more importantly, who exactly is Wisuth? The owner? An executive?

I recall previously, there was stuff circulating about someone like the parking attendant being the supposed manager... I'm exaggerating here...

But seriously, the reports were that the place was basically run by someone high ranking in government/law enforcement. Is Wisuth THAT guy, or just a fall guy?

Exactly, good question. Who is Wisuth? I remember that there were something like eight co-owners. Was it determined that Wisuth should be the one thrown under the bus to stand for the crime? What about the additional implicated people on the CSD and force? Was there any further investigation of collusion and conspiracy to avoid regulatory certification by inspectors? This case would have been a very good high profile case for Thailand to show that it cares about setting world standards and regulations that make it safe for Thais and tourists alike to be secure in its buildings and promises. Alas, Thailand followed the old school book. First , determining what was "the best thing to have occurred and then "fix" the evidence accordingly. Second, determine the minimum acceptable penalties acceptable , if only Thais involved. Third, how the police and government fixers would be "taken care of". And then lastly appearing on the surface to give some evidence of penalty closure. So Wisuth ends up being the one thrown under the bus to hold up as the example that justice was at work , Thai style. Condolences again to the families of the victims. I remember seeing the photos of their charred and unrecognizable bodies pied up at the "locked and chained from the outside" exit doors, as they desperately and frantically tried to escape the heat and smoke and were burned alive. Wisuth was obviously the sole person responsible for "chaining" the only exit door closed so as to prohibit others from sneaking in for free and avoiding the 500 baht cover charge.

  2. It's not the first time I hear about these stickers.

But I don't understand what the Land Transport Federation is complaining about.

They want the police to be more strict in giving fines to drivers who don't respect the weight limit ?

Or they want the right to break the law without consequences ?

Right, exactly. The Land Transport Fed broke protocol by going public with the scam. Good question, what exactly do they want? Obviously if you break the code and go public the highway patrol has to put up a defense. We need to know more about the Land Transport Fed's motives. Do you suppose that the highway patrol wanted to increase the "sticker" price to 5K and the LTF balked? Maybe this is the way to get it in the hands of the recognized arbitrator Don Somchai so that he can resolve a "fair" settlement and they both get what they want and of course, Don Somchai gets his increased vig too. All in a days work.

  3. For Non-Immigrant O Marriage Visa - You only need "joint" income of 40K Baht per month (it may be a little higher now-but not much) That's "joint" so it includes both husband and wife income. You will also need a notarized letter from your embassy stating your income. Most embassies have a form for this and your state your income to them. Thai immigration takes that notarized statement as proof of income. Many people are not familiar with the actual requirements for the marriage visa - It is different from the retirement visa.

  4. if you're living here for any length of time and don't understand the way Thais and Thainess works , maybe you should do some investigation - try reading this source http://studyinthaila...ety_values.html - The author, who is Thai , put together what is referred to as the 'definitive" work on trying to define Thainess , Thai values, and character. It doesn't matter what country I am from , we are all just Farangs to Thais and all in the same category. So asking about what country I am from has nothing to do with the essence of this observation.

  7. When you live in Thailand and can get past the illusionary smile thing that seems to captivate occasional tourists you see the real everyday Thai. Totally self absorbed. Ambulance, fire truck, emergency, any kind of normal civil function has nothing to do with me. I am me in my own world and unless you will impact my "face" , I pay you no attention, you are nothing. I drive in front of you as if you don't exist. You are dying, it's not my concern. I will remain in the same lane blocking you, because who you are and what you are doing is an imposition to me. I am Thai, and if you don't understand that then you don't understand me and my "Thainess". Now call ahead and tell them to just wait for your fire truck, because I will not move. You in the ambulance in my rear view mirror, have you got it yet? I don't care if the person you are rushing to get to the hospital dies. They mean nothing to me. I am Thai. It is part of m my Thainess.

  8. This BTS train crowding was obvious long ago. Thai are not capable of planning and ignored repeated observations for many years before. If I'm not mistaken BTS was acquired by the media company that does the advertising on the BTS stations and cars, so longer cars would provide additional channels for more advertising revenue. Together with added fares and additional advertising, this would be the business plan for purchasing additional cars, plus the Thai scheme of kickbacks to merchants at Emporium and Paragon should be more than enough funding and cash flow for at least two additional cars on each train. However, it will take the Thais another ten years to figure out how to split up the money and therefore never getting around to even thinking about customers, risk, and mass transit. Anyway, the elite all drive to work and around shopping so they would never be found dead in a BTS train no matter three or five car length. - noitom
