  1. The last time I checked Taskin is a citizen of Thailand, therefore he is entitled to a Thai passport.

Passports are usually withheld to prevent nationals from leaving the country where the passport was issued, not withheld to prevent a national from returning to his/her country of citizenship.

As far as the international arrest warrant goes, it seems no country worldwide is willing to recognise the warrant. Therefore we have to assume the warrant is either political or malicious.

You are so, so wrong. No one is "entitiled" to a passport. Passports are issued by your home country so you may travel to another country. If you violate you own countries laws, your passport can be cancelled and revoked. This is recognized around the world, except, it seems, here in Thailand.

Simply having a passport doesn't mean anything. It doesn't enshrine a right to leave a country, and merely submitting your passport doesn't mean that immigration have to let you leave or let you enter.

I would submit that if he can get yourself to Thai immigration with a proof of Thai citizenship, they would be honour bound to let you enter, whether or not you had a passport. Isn't there a statement in the constitution that the government cannot strip someone of their thai citizenship, and they cannot deny entry to a Thai person?

Section 36 of the 1997 constitution says "No person of Thai nationality shall be deported or prohibited from entering the Kingdom."

But that is not really the issue. He would need a passport to LEAVE wherever he is and a visa (depending on passport used to travel) to get on a plane. Easiest way that I can see is a Thai passport valid for travel BACK TO THAILAND AND JAIL ONLY. The rest of the points made here are all academic....should he shouldn't he etc....it is where he is allowed to travel to that should only be considered.....

It really wouldn't matter if Thaksin came back and served the laughable jail sentence that they gave him. He would only be put into a prison that is a light security facility much like they do in the western countries with high profile prisoners [for example Martha Stewart in the USA]. Then after he serves the time, he would be exonerated most likely and be able to return to his normal life. Believe me , Thailand is better off if he doesn't return!!

  2. 'The Pheu Thai MP went on to say that while it is generally understood that Thailand is a free market economy, it is, in fact, an oligopoly with investors determining prices and farmers just being the suppliers of raw materials.

He added this is why more than 40 million Thais remain poor and the government's populist policies are simply weakening them further.'

This in my opinion is the main 'meat' of this report, but resolving why these 40m people are in the situation they are, I suspect is going to mean a lot of 'middle-men' between the farmer and the shops, losing out. Just how you go about ensuring that the farmer, gets a better share of the money, is a problem faced in all countries, because meddling/hiking with the price of foodstuffs customers pay, is political dynamite, regardless of the colour of the Party.

Forget whether this government will make the poor poorer or not, has anyone ever heard anyone in any position of power make such a statement before. It doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things because it won't change a thing, and it could be stated that he was pandering to an audience, but if ever there was a statement that cuts strait to one of the biggest fundamental problems in the country this is it.

Well, if nothing is said then nothing will even get the remotest possibility to change. The MP excersized freedom of speech in order to rouse a debate in Parliament. The question is, will other MP have the courage to take it on as an open discussion. Maybe he just decided to speak as a normal citizen [which he also is ,as well as a govt official]. As a citizen he has that right in a free society. There is just one more archaic law on the books that needs changing and Thailand would truely have freedom of speech. :jap:

  3. Well, if the Chinese build things, they dont ask and nobody dares to even mention a word. If the Laotians are doing the same then the whole world, spearheaded by the American clowns, need to intervene again. Clintons comments are uncalled for as long as the US is in a bigger mess than Lao PDR. The deal and the conditions might have to be reviewed by the MRC (Mekong River Commission) if there is anything wrong. While Laos is far from perfect they managed to inch into the 21st century with sustainable energy - unlike other countries!

Your response seems of a limited scope given the subject matter, and possibly opinionated as well. No one seems to like when the United States has any involvement what so ever in anything. Well, they are a world power and they have strategic interests in the south-east asian region, so whether you like it or not, that is todays world. Better to shrug off the implications.

You cant seriously try to compare the energy needs of the United States in comparison to Laos. If you read the articles ,the project is coming from a Thai company, and the Thai govt agreed to purchase practically all of the energy produced from this hydroelectric project.

  4. Impeached for helping out in the flood? Is that the essence of this?

The essence is taking reliefs meant for everyone to help some "special individual". To me that is very wrong.

Does anyone think of who the special individuals might be?? FLOOD VICTIMS!!!!! For something like this they want to call for impeachment of the Democratic party leader? Are they out of their freaking minds!!!!.

But its ok for the PTP to repackage aid items generously given from other countries and put a label on the package saying "given to you from the PTP and Thaksin"!!! That is ok"??

Better not to waste the governments time with tactics like this. Mr Abhisit has done more good than bad in the time he was in the PM office.

How about someone in the govt calling for a proposal to have Thaksin extradicted from the country that hes hiding in!!!! and bring him back to face justice !!

The PTP govt should be concentrating on assisting the people and businesses that have been devastated from the floods instead of wasting the Parliaments time with nonsense. The PTP truely wants to show the people that they have no intention of working together with the democratic party. This just proves that PTP is more interested in itself, rather than serving the people that elected them!!

  5. Why is everyone complaining? This is how it is everywhere. Companies release electronic systems, make you buy the components, and then next year they release the next one [which they already have but hold back from releasing so they can make a fortune selling the inferior technology first]. Its the same with the computer hardware industry. How many of you have a computer that is already outdated? Its all about making money.

  6. He's only getting a normal passport? He'll be a bit miffed he isn't getting his full diplomatic passport returned but I'm sure that will also happen given time.

His supporters must be counting down the days until their Imperious Leader makes his triumphant return.

I wonder if he will kiss Thai soil as he did when returning before?

Well if it does come to pass that Thaksin is given pardon from serving a prison sentence and he is reinstated in the government, it will be a sad day for Thailands world opinion. It would reinforce that the govt is just as corrupt as many other southeast asian govts.

  7. Isn't it illegal to hold Thai and foreign passports? He will have to decide which country he really calls home.

why would that be illegal many people have thai and american passports.you can be a duel citizen

How can you even issue anything by any government to a convicted felon on the run? Amazing Thailand, it's a MIRACLE

How can you????????? Are you kidding? ? Who, is the Foreign Minister? and who is he related to?? This class of people live by their own set of rules, not the ones that they make for the rest of the population. And thats not just in Thailand, it goes for just about everywhere in the world. Priviledged characters like this think they can do whatever they want and if no one opposes it, then they might just get away with it.

  8. From the article above, surely if he did return, would he not automatically be arrested, having fled the country previously and serve the outstanding jail term of 2 years then be tried further on the outstanding criminal cases against him?

I understand TITs ... but surely this could not be allowed?

Well, in the case of Thaksin its fortunate for his prospects of not being arrested on arrival that the National Poliece Chief is his brother in law, and of course merely coincidentally, appointed by her sister's government. And now his cousin is going to give him this New Years present.

By the way, isn't the FM saying that he will (again) be helping Thaksin, a convicted fugitive? I though that is against the law.

Whose law? The newly elected government can push to change or make a new law. They were suggesting an amnesty, and i be that is their idea. Just doing it slowly.

  9. I'm glad he's coming back. You don't like it..leave. It's not your business or concern anyway and it certainly isn't your country of birth.

Oh dear here we go again with the curtail freedom of speech people.....WHATS UP GOT NOTHING BETTER TO SAY......

No he just sounds like a racist. And he might be one. So if he wants Thaksin back, let him have him back. All the foreigner should leave so they can have their corrupt ex-PM start to run things again, and hes right, its his business if he wants a corrupt criminal back to run the country.

Honestly, look back 10 years, how many govts has there been???????? Maybe parliamentary democracy just doesnt work well in south east asia. Perhaps the best solution would be to dissolve the parliament and let the original government be reestablished. There are many different color shirts and ideas , but one idea that seems to unite the people is their love for the leader of the original government and how they greatly respect his family. Perhaps that is the best thing after all.:jap: :jap: :jap:

I understand TITs ... but surely this could not be allowed?

Are you kidding me? First they give him passport to enter the country legally, then they will surely get him pardoned. He will never sit one day in jail.

They control the govt, so they can legislate new laws to supercede the old ones.

  11. "My friend said he often stomped on my son, bit him, banged his head against the wall and pushed his head into a toilet. He did all this when I was not in the room with them," Sirimongkhon Premprasai said.

Yet you continued to leave him alone with this monster; lady you are EQUALLY guilty as you boyfriend; shame on you and shame on anyone who knew of this abuse and did nothing to stop it, you can all proudly call yourselves murderers

AGREED the womans friend should be charged as an accomplice.

  12. Very ugly news indeed, on several points.

    1. Where was everyone during the 'prolonged abuse' part? How much abuse is 'ok' before a mother decides... 'maybe I'm not going to keep my precious baby son around this psychotic asshol_e loser' anymore? The mother is definitely partly at fault here, and she will no doubt be stuck with guilt from the death (whether it is denied on the surface or not) for many years. Recommend sterilization to protect future potential children from her neglect.

    2. I am very askance at Chula hospital's 'referral' to Sri Nakharin Wirot. It's not like they're right around the corner. Most likely, as a non-paying (or 'poor card' paying) customer, they simply turned her away for lack of funds. The delay possibly cost the life of the child. In a civilised country there would be an investigation to see if there was criminal liability, but good luck with that here.

    Sterilization program????

Wow seems like you would have been the type of army officer that would blame an entire village for one persons treason and burn the whole village with all the people in it.

How do you know that this woman was not in an emotionally abused state? perhaps she was being abused as well [its not unheard of unfortunately]. Stick to punishing the criminal. If the doctors/nurses in the hospital failed to see it and report it, blame them for their part too. Dont get me wrong, i have no mercy for this son of a bitch, i would have no problem seeing him beaten within an inch of his life!

You may remember a group in the '30s and '40s who sterilised thousands of people because they felt they should not have children.

This group I'm referring to were called the Nazis.

You should be very careful what you wish for.

I doubt that attempted ethnic genocide is equivalent to the criminal punishment of a single woman unfit to be a mother, already responsible for the death of one child. You should be very careful of your hyperbole.

Excuse me but the mother may have been naive or neglectful, or might have been in an abusive situation with the man she was living with. Does anyone think about that? The criminal and the person that punishment should be brought against is this vile example of a man. I personally would have no problem seeing him executed for what he has done. Sterilizing the mother? what does that have to do with his crime commited upon a 2 year old child.? The man is the one that did it and the man is the only one that should pay for this. Im sure the woman did not ask for this to happen to her baby.

  14. There seems to be alot of nit picking in most of the comments i have read. The situation is bad and everyone in the affected areas have in one way or another had their lives disrupted. People understandably have alot of emotion and anger is usually the first one to release, even if the persons are good people and really dont intend to make those remarks.

The people of Thailand need to put politics aside during his horrific disaster. I am sure that if the shoe was on the other foot ,and Mr Abhisit was still the Prime Minister, he would say "we are doing our best". And from the very first day, he was working "with" the Prime Minister because the bottom line is the people are more important than politics!!!

My best wishes and prayers for Bangkok and the affected peoples of Thailand :jap:

  15. Why does the flood water always seem to come at night?

Interesting observation. Is it because sabotage or officials opening gates is done at night?

Whatever it is, it works and this morning I can see green returning to the edges of field in some areas in my province. So things do get better and in few sunny days citizens will be able to stretch their legs outside the relief camps..........

The problems in Bangkok have a silver lining, although difficult to appreciate as water rises. Good luck Bangkokians

Pretty simple. High tides in Thailand occur once per day, and at this time of year occur in the late afternoon; around 4.50pm today.

As the water rises, the amount of height the water will drop as it flows to the sea reduces, and therefore the river at a certain point, stops flowing out to sea, and upstream for some distance, the rate of flow reduces out to sea, while the water coming from upstream keeps flowing at the same rate.

This results in the water being at its highest, in line with the high tide. At this time of year, due to (IIRC) the moon, the tides tend to be higher and the lows not as low. April/May is when you see super low tides in the Gulf of Thailand.

Also, which doesn't help, the normal rainy season monsoon which we saw yesterday, tends to fall in the late afternoon following the land heating up and pulling in a sea breeze and pushing clouds up with height resulting in rain etc etc; which is why EVERY YEAR Sept and Oct are the most prone to flooding, as it is a perfect storm of soaking soil, rainfall from the north, high tides and afternoon rain.

Bangkok can handle flash flooding; what it cannot handle is the amount of water coming south.

No conspiracy (unless you believe Jatuporn) it is pretty simple stuff.

Thanks that was an education :jap:

  16. The conversation US navy and Thailand

US navy: Thailand can we help?

    Thailand: Up to you

US navy: we want to help

Thailand: No thanks we dont want your help

US navy: <deleted>? you need help , yes or no?

    Thailand: Up to you

    US navy: <deleted>?..........

A defence official in Washington said the US navy had withdrawn several ships, including aircraft carriers, sent to help with relief efforts in Thailand after receiving "mixed" messages from the Bangkok government.

"There were two channels (in the Thai government)," the defence official told AFP. "One was saying 'Yes' and one was saying 'No.'"

But Thailand's defence minister, General Yutthasak Sasiprapa, indicated that authorities felt they were able to handle the situation themselves.

"We have not denied their assistance, but we have our own aircraft so we would rather use ours," he told reporters, adding however that he was unclear over the details of the US offer and needed to check with the air force chief.

A spokesman from the US embassy in Bangkok said one ship from the US group had docked in Thailand on October 20 and its helicopters had since been on missions coordinated with the Thai army and other US agencies.

BUT USA IS TOLD NO THANKS

Some people there need to take their heads out of their a--es. The USA is not the British Empire, and its not the last century when the europeans came and took natural resources of the SE asian countries.

  17. So sad .

  18. Where is the Army when we need them

:whistling: Dont know where the army is, but the US Navy fleet is heading back out from the Gulf of Thailand with its aircraft carrier and escorts with its fleet of helicopters and all of the emergency aid that the flortilla was carrying for Bangkok, seems the US needed an official SOS call for help to begin with emergency assistance, one from the government and one from the military, but could only get one yes and one no which means its a no-go and away the navy sails into the horizon, amazing Thailand never stops amazing me.

I dont understand it either. Thats so stupid. There was a tremendous supply of help on those ships, medical, humanitarian and more. Does the new PM need to show the world that she is capable of doing it by herself without foreign assistance? [meanwhile how many people have to die, become homeless, ill , or unemployed so she can prove it? ]. Yingluck may have hesitated to call for "national emergency" in order to try to keep confidence of the foreign investors that have factories in Thailand. BUT that credibility is now gone!!! the waters are just too much...... So why turn down help from people who want to help the nation? USA and Thailand have been friends since 1945 and have very good relations. How selfish can Yingluck be? or maybe her advisors suggested against taking the aid?? No one knows the answer yet.:ermm:

Oh i forgot they did accept some aid from Singapore, which is very nice of them to help. I have not seen any other countries in the region do that yet.

My prayers are for the people of Thailand. May this suffering pass soon.:jap:

  19. I am a US citizen and you are right. Sad to say we do nothing for free. There is always some catch to it.

...today the US help you, tomorrow they'll be ready to reclaim the favor and put it in your a**...

and don't tell me it never happened before

Finally somebody talking sense jerrybuice and mezcal. The US military is no angel-like Good Samaritan

I am so fed up of seeing posts by those who are itching to belittle Thais by calling them names like "arrogant" and "stupid".

I give credit to the Thai government and I respect their reasons for declining the offer of "help".

The Indian government did the same declining foreign "help" in the wake of the 2004 Tsunami in the Tamil Nadu coastal areas. They also had their reasons.

Maybe after browsing this you might recant your comment
