  1. I have never once shown my passport, always had my licence accepted

Almost always required when doing serious banking transactions. A car purchase also required the passport.

  2. When it comes to torrents to obtain Movies/TV/Applications etc the list of peers is mostly from USA. Pot calling kettle black.

The US has some draconian rules when it comes to illegal file sharing. Pretty much impossible to do so without use of a VPN. Even then, they are catching on. Do a search on this and you'll find pages of info on legal actions being taken against individuals and the things ISPs are doing to stop this.

Have you ever seen an arrest here for this?

  3. Just to set the record straight, in America we have a CORPORATE media. Not sure why flag-waving Americans want to call it "free" all the time because it's not free. And it's not really very liberal, either.

If we had an actual free, liberal media in America, we never would have gone into Iraq.

Sorry, but not true. There are too many media outlets to make this claim. The Iraq war was a disaster created by the government. They fed inaccurate info to journalists and kept all external messages the same. The journalists were hoodwinked. And felt ashamed about it afterwards. Do some research on this. Judith Miller is a great place to start.

People tend to gravitate towards sites that say what they want to hear.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_bias_in_the_United_States

Media bias in the United States occurs when the media in the United States systematically emphasizes one particular point of view in a way that contravenes the standards of professional journalism. Claims of media bias in the United States include claims of liberal bias, conservative bias, mainstream bias, and corporate bias. To combat this, a variety of watchdog groups that attempt to find the facts behind both biased reporting and unfounded claims of bias,%5B1%5D%5B2%5D have been founded. Research about media bias is now a subject of systematic scholarship in a variety of disciplines.

At least in the US, you can start a website about almost anything you want. It won't be censored. And it won't be shut down. Incredible some even read these sites:

  4. I remember those "raids" All the copy DVDs were hidden, but they still had books you could look through. You told them what you wanted and 30 minutes later, bingo. It was there.

Thais think foreigner organizations don't know what's going on. They 100% do. Or maybe they just don't care? I don't know.

I think social media has a lot of influence here. Videos posted online showing all the illegal stuff for sale. That wasn't there 15 years ago. But it sure is now. Documented proof.

  5. I am a writer and software designer, so I am usually touchy about intellectual property rights.

Nonetheless, the US allows medicines that are essential to be orphaned by manufacturers, many of whom merely synthesized a natural substance derived from plants -- and the pharmaceutical companies are much more interested in prolonged treatments rather than cures or botanical products. The US allows medical procedures to be copyrighted, making it that fellow surgeons must pay a fee to the surgeon who patented the technique. The US even allows intellectual property rights to apply in regards to work flow methods which are egregiously unoriginal. The US regulators even allowed a trademark for a rice packager, not a grower by any means, with the name brand "Jasmine Rice", which is now a protected term for a US rice distributor. Just as Mc(anything) is vigorously attacked by McDonalds in a court where money, not justice, decides the outcome. The US has allowed intellectual property laws to circumvent the public welfare entirely. Screw that.

In some uses of intellectual property rights, like all those above, I simply believe the issue has become fallacious and counter-productive, as well as inhumane and utterly amoral.

Don't 100% agree with your comments. Because of competition, if one pharma invented a drug that eliminated prolonged treatments, they'd probably get rich. And it's been done before. Not unusual.

With regards to medical procedures having a patent, I don't think so. A law in 1996 allows any doctor to do any procedure without infringement issues. I believe Clinton was responsible for that law. If a device is used, then absolutely, it can have a patent. Like pacemakers. But that makes sense.

    http://www.legalmatch.com/law-library/article/medical-procedure-exception-to-patent-infringement.html

Not sure about jasmine rice either. When in the US, there are dozens of different brands of Jasmine rice.

As for Mc, that makes sense. It is 100% related to their company.

So as a writer, it's OK if I take your book, put it on piratebay, and let others obtain it for free??? Or do you feel you have a right to protect your creation?

  6. BANGKOK: -- Among the Army's weapons confiscated by red-shirt protesters in April 2010, only one M-16 rifle has been returned to the military, the rest are still missing, Army spokesman Sansern Kaewkam-nerd said in testimony yesterday.

The missing weapons included 25 Tavor rifles, four M-16 rifles and 39 shotguns, he said in testimony before the House of Representative's sub-committee on political development and mass communication.

The weapons belonging to the Army were confiscated by red protesters during the bloody protest in April 2010. They were displayed on the red-shirts' stage at Rajdamnern Avenue on the day, he said.

None of these fire .308/.338 rounds ?

The Criminal Court Thursday announced the result of inquest into the killing of Reuters cameraman Hiro Muramoto, saying he was killed by a high-velocity bullet with unknown type and size.

Where did they say it was that type of round?

  8. Let's not forget the red shirts were well armed. Plenty of evidence out there that supports this. It was mayhem at this time. Without very good forensic investigators (which Thailand really does not have), it's impossible to prove exactly what happened.

A very sad day for the family of the reporter, but he put himself into that position. Many "war" reporters are killed every year. They know what they are getting themselves into:

    1123 Journalists Killed since 1992

    https://cpj.org/killed/

He put himself in that position? Oh well that's alright then, as that means those protesters Deaths last year should be viewed in a similar manner? If they hadn't been there they wouldn't have been killed? Is that really what you're saying?

That's one reason we didn't go to the protest sites. Just too dangerous. Not trying to be crude. But these protest sites have a history of being very dangerous.

  10. Allowing only one side of politics a voice and denying people a choice is what is causing a division. What did Prayuth say, "The People must choose, not Politicians" He floods the airways with his speeches and propoganda rubbish and it forced onto the people but if the other side speaks out they are shut down. Where are the choices that the leader speaks of apart from him and him.

You are right. And that's exactly what got us here in the first place. One political faction denying the other side a voice. Along with very divisive messages broadcast by the red media. It was extremely one sided. And at times, not true.

Remember when the previous government allowed Taksin, a convicted criminal on the run, to be broadcast nationally?

If you go back more than a decade, the ruling government did the same thing. Controlled the media. Tit for tat???

  11. If Peace TV is considered to be provocative - what about the Internet? Or some of the international channels on True? Something missing here. Or is it just brain cells?

TV, in almost every nation around the world, is highly regulated. The internet is obviously not.

These guys have been reporting on the draft constitution, and in a negative light. It's one sided and biased reporting. Other media outlets have toned down, this station has not.

The rules are different now and they have to abide by them. They obviously didn't. The red shirts have some great concepts, unfortunately their leaders are after something else all together.

Censorship of the media is not good, but it's reality now.

  12. What people do in western countries, with regards to slopes, breezes, etc, is completely different from what's being done today with regards to FS here. When our FS "expert" showed up, it was all about power and money.

The front door of the house had to be located properly so money wouldn't flow out. The waterfall had to be positioned properly so money wouldn't flow out. Ridiculous notions.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feng_shui

...feng shui has become an aspect of interior decorating in the Western world and alleged masters of feng shui now hire themselves out for hefty sums to tell people such as Donald Trump which way his doors and other things should hang. Feng shui has also become another New Age "energy" scam with arrays of metaphysical products...offered for sale to help you improve your health, maximize your potential, and guarantee fulfillment of some fortune cookie philosophy.%5B92%5D
    ...............
Others have noted how, when feng shui is not applied properly, it can even harm the environment, such as was the case of people planting "lucky bamboo" in ecosystems that could not handle them.%5B93%5D

Feng shui practitioners in China find superstitious and corrupt officials easy prey, despite official disapproval. In one instance, in 2009, feng shui practitioners gulled county officials in Gansu into hauling a 369-ton "spirit rock" to the county seat to ward off "bad luck."[94

This fountain was made in Singapore

    http://secondglobe.com/item/fountain-wealth-suntec-city-singapore/

The inward flowing water of the Fountain of Wealth represents the symbol of life and wealth in the Chinese culture and also the retention of wealth for Suntec City. As the feng shui experts claim, the water that flows inwards represents riches pouring in, hence the name Fountain of Wealth

Feng Shui might have some interesting concepts, unfortunately, many are now using it as way to obtain and keep money. Sorry, but ridiculous.

My friend paid 30k Baht for his expert. Right. Well, I guess it is all about money? whistling.gif

  13. I've got a friend who's got a condo on the 25th floor in Bangkok with an amazing view of the city. Due to feng shui, his bed faces the back wall rather than the floor to ceiling windows with this amazing view. Plus, his FS "consultant" convinced him to block part of the view from the living room also. Something about energy flowing out.

He also didn't want an entrance to the maids quarters near the front door as it would release energy also. My friend asked if there was a way around this? Yes, there was. Create an entrance that was "camouflaged". LOL

We brought in a FS "consultant" for placement of our spirit house. I rejected the first suggestion. No problem. How about here? NO. I suggested a place...perfect! LOL

  14. What's Poland's problem with the Night Wolves, anyway? Can't guarantee their security?

Perhaps you should read up on recent Polish history, you know the parts where Russia invaded Poland. This was when Russia was allied with Nazi Germany. Then at the end of the war, Russia again invaded Poland murdering Polish citizens who resisted or who were considered to be too loyal to Poland. In case you forgot, Russia enslaved Poland for decades and held back the nation's advancement. I

    Complete BS

Would you like to debate his post, rather than simply attempt to dismiss it.

It is a matter of historical fact that Hitler and Stalin carved Poland up. When Nazi Germany invaded Poland, so did Soviet USSR. Stalin's NKVD murdered tens of thousands of Polish army officers, intellectuals, academics and any who they considered might resist their rule.

Following Hitler's invasion of USSR "Uncle Joe" joined the Allies. Unfortunately the "liberation" of Poland and other East European countries by the Red Army simply replaced on occupier with another as Stalin imposed puppet communist regimes in the countries to the East.

Go to Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, the Baltic states and ask if they prefer being under USSR rule or being not.

Now perhaps you can explain why you think this bullshit, why parts that were Poland prior to 1939 are still in what was the USSR and why it took so long for the truth about NKVD massacres to finally come out?

Stalin was no better than Hitler, and arguable worse. He certainly murdered far more.

I've been to most of the countries you've listed. No way would they want to go back under Russian control. Especially not now considering recent history.

  15. offering to normalize ties with the West if it treats Moscow as an equal partner and not a "vassal."

How about him offering to treat the west as a partner, rather than an adversary. It cuts both ways.

Pressed again about claims of a Russian military presence in Ukraine, he said: "There are no Russian troops in Ukraine."

Hard to believe a word from him if he continues to say this. Zero credibility.
