  1. My take is this I truly detest violence against Women and whether or not he made the right call in the moment is questionable. I would like to think I would have exhausted all other options before using physical force.

However, prior to me putting across his version of events there were many commenting that he should be beaten or deported for his actions from fellow farang.  He has gone to another province with his daughter due to personal threats he has received as an upshot of the media coverage.

If an individual, male or female, walks into a bank wearing a balaclava, carrying a shotgun and asks the teller to put the money in a bag then gets shot in the leg by bank security protecting the establishment, staff and customers.  Whilst this is a completely different scenario would there be any sympathy for the individual wearing the balaclava or would it be a simple case of som nam na serves you right for trying to rob a bank?

Does he accept that it was a genuine mistake of taking the wrong trolley , or does he think this was deliberate attempted theft ?

It seems rather odd that she began running , if someones coming from behind you in a car park trying to get your attention , the normal reaction is to stop and see what they want

It is his belief she was trying to escape once he shouted after her, whether to dump the trolley and disappear because she had been rumbled or to try and keep the trolley/contents for herself he isn't sure.

Defend him all you want, he is a bloody disgrace, no matter what happened he kicked a woman, now that is unforgivable, he needs a damn good thrashing.

Whilst I don't agree he handled the situation well and shouldn't have used force however slight.  I would say that if she hadn't have been running off with his trolley, 6000 baht of goods and keys to his truck in the first place then she wouldn't have been kicked.

If he had grabbed the trolley instead and reported her to security then maybe it would be her facing charges, however the media have made her out to be a helpless innocent victim of an unprovoked vicious attack by a farang, this is not correct either.  Also I believe that if he were a Thai man there would probably not have been charges for him to face nor would it have made the news!

    He hadn't paid yet

Yes he had, you can't leave the Big C supermarket area and go to the KFC without first paying for your items.

Ok... Tell me exactly what was said by both parties in mall and at the police station. I wasn't there and neither were you.

Neither was I but according to the defendant he and his daughter were not allowed to have any say in the investigation whatsoever.  They did tell him he could go to court and challenge the plaintiffs claim but he would lose for sure and get 3 years in Jail.  The investigation was based soley on the statement made by the girl.

  5. I came here straight from Thailand where I live and have done for 10 years.

All my documents were in order. They said it was because I had already had a 3 month non b in June.

This morning I returned to the embassy and after much grovelling they accepted my application. Hopefully Monday they will issue the visa.

I would reccomend avoiding Savannakhet consulate for now if possible. The guy at the stall filling out the apps and photocopies etc said he spoke with an official last week who told him things will get easier in about a month but for now it remains strict there.

  6. posted in another section also, sorry for repeat content admin guys!

Just got a knock back for a 3 month non B at Savannakhet. Paperwork was all in order. They said because it was the second single entry visa in a row. New rule apparentely 4 months ago, reality is the fella just made a new rule up on the spot.

Never seen so many people get rejected. I've been using Savannkhet for 10 years. Maybe 40% infront of me were getting rejected.

One fella got knocked back because his letter said Mrs. Instead of Mr.!

Rules is rules as they say! Thailand are making it very apparent that they don't want farang here anymore.

  8. I found when I was looking for AC Units in Ubon to cool a big shophouse area like this all the AC shops quoted double what the energy websites quoted. I think the formula they use is somewhat biased in favour of profit.

Try what the website BTU calculators tell you first then increase if necessary, ou can always add another unit later on. Professional AC guys told me if you have too many BTU it does cool the room quicker but the air doesn't get conditioned properly and you end up with condensation. You can see this sometimes in 7/11's, they tend to go a bit overboard in those places.

  9. Unfortunately people have little imagination and copy each other. There are many unoccupied shop houses in ubon but that doesn't stop people building many more and asking as much as 9-10 million baht for them. This is Bkk prices. Some sell but not sure what business the buyers are thinking of doing to make it worth while. Can't see a little som tam shop producing returns to warrant this much.

  10. Kham Yai is about the nicest area to raise a family in my opinion, however finding a property for rent is a different matter altogether. I look at land and houses everyday as a job but it's very difficult to find decent rentals here. If I come across any on my travels I'll let you know KunMatt!

  11. Bloomberg is a media outlet and the word "recession" makes for an eye catching headline.

The reality is that GDP was down in respect to the same quarter of the previous year. This is not a recession merely a slowing in growth from the previous year.

I wonder how much Mayor Bloomberg and his friends made by shorting the baht and SET after the report? No wonder he's a billionaire!
