Easy answer is don't by the base models the choice is yours to choose the spec that you want
My 2006 Lancer was the Ralliart version and that had a big hit from a Isuzu pick up with a roo bar that jumped traffic lights. It was hit just behind the drivers side passenger door and spun round so the same place on the opposite side into a stationary Toyota pick up. Extensive damage but was restored back original. My current model is the Lancer Ex GT that gets 8/10 for safety

Thanks for everyone who's replied so far, a lot to take into consideration.
I'm not hugely into cars so European brands seem overpriced, if you're into them for the love of cars then that makes sense but there doesn't seem to be a big benefit otherwise.
Reviewing most of the European, American, Aussie and Asian safety sites it seems like the Mazda MX-5/MX-30 are very similar from a safety perspective to Volvos and Mercedes of a similar size or the Range Rover Evoque which was also suggested. Subarus also seem to perform well in safety tests as does the CRV (although not quite up there with the Mazdas).
If the only option for a safe car was a European brand then I'd go for that but from research it doesn't seem like that's the case.
There is also Mitsubishi, they have the Xpander, Pajero and Outlander in various options. My first Lancer from 2006 was sold to another expat and has done nearly 200,000 kms. On my second Lancer that dates from May 2014, and both have been ultra reliable. We have also have an Xpander and same applies.

You know that children's buggies are collapsible and will fit into any car, including the smallest of your choices?
Depends on the buggy some are quite big when folded.

I have been making bread , 2lb loaves, since the early 90's and continued to do so here, have always kept them in a Big C sealable plastic bag that is kept in the fridge it is still fine after 4-5 days.
Have had problems since my the old bread maker I brought with me expired, the first from Robinson had a penchant to make a load bang 45 mins through the program and after returning it to Cuizimate they said that was normal! It lasted a few years until the drive from the motor broke, as a result and they are no longer available in Thailand. Then I tried a HOM 264401 from Verasu that initially created a strong disgusting smell that permeated everywhere and the bread too, yuk, and it did not rise as much as expected. Verasu replaced the baking tin which cured the stench but it still didn't rise as it should have. Then after a couple of months the bread only came halfway up the tin on one occasion then next time it wasn't fully baked with one half angled down at 45 degrees! Still trying to get Verasu to honour their warranty but getting nowhere fast!
Asked the owner of a local supplier of kitchen appliances about them and he said if you buy it from us it will come from Lazada!!

Try Finder.com, you can ask the question to find out if it is possible and how to.

Try an International bank there are a few in Thailand. UBS has a branch in BKK.
Alternatively Skybanking in the UK do offshore accounts so they may be able to assist or know how to.
The other option is a FCD (Foreign Currency Deposit) account with say BKK in GBP but you have to go to head office to open one and make a small deposit to activate it. The funds can stay there and then could be transferred to an offshore account in GBP leaving enough about £5,200 to transfer to a Savings Account in baht. I've had GBP sat in my FCD account for some years.

If someone can just give me an explanation of how acupuncture works I will reconsider my opinion. I have not been able to find one on the internet so far. I also contacted the British Council of Acupuncture who also so far have been unable to give me a scientific explanation. If I were to do the same for accepted medicine I would have no such trouble. Blood pressure medicine, Asthma drugs, chemotherapy, antihistamines etc all have explanations. The same can not be said of acupuncture. The next time you are in some way actually ill or are hit by a car why not forget these 'western medicines' and stick with your 'alternative' medicine. When next your child is sick just employ the services of a reflexologist or some such and go make another tye-die T-shirt.
Many years ago I had a problem with one of my knees and was treated with all but one of the options open to the NHS hospital without success. The nurse eventually said the only thing we haven't tried is acupuncture which caused raised eyebrows. Having had the treatment explained to me I decided to give it a try because there was nothing to lose. After the first session there was an improvement much to my surprise and I think that 3 or 4 short sessions resolved the problem never to return. Did I need a scientific explanation of course not, any more than for any other physiotherapy treatment. Have had it a couple of times since also treated by a chiropractor for back proplem.

Something getting lost in the translation here?
If he has already married his Thai wife and has the wedding certificate and/or the kor ror 2 'update' document, I don't see why he needs to get anything from the UK.
AFAIK, only the foreigner has to get notarized proof from his embassy for any local amphur to permit his marriage to a local woman. It's broadly called an affirmation of freedom to marry.
I haven't heard of an amphur needing the Thai female partner to furnish any written evidence that she is similarly unencumbered. Even if your friend's wife's previous marriage and divorce was done solely in the UK, I haven't heard of any amphur or immigration being overly concerned about the female partners previous marriage.
Unless she is the widow of, for instance, a Brit as some Amphurs will not accept an English Death Certificate on the basis it states "Copy" and insist they must see the original! However, others will without question.

65k in and then straight out again, all of it, would surely raise questions.
In my mind as well (what do you live on?)
But a portion of it out each month with various draw downs on the rest should be fine.
You can transfer I think up to 15K USD via Dee Money.
You could alternate the 65k bi-monthly with no problem via TorFX.

Is that as in 65k back to outside Thailand? Remitting in that direction needs extra arrangements with a bank, one of the multitude of reasons I never transfer any more $ here than I immediately need.
You do not have to use your bank as TorFX will do it for less cost.

Been using Baht Smart for some time now for my AUD transfers. My KBank statements shows these funds coming from a variety of sources. eg.
DUMMY BRANCH
Chang Mia Branch
Head Office
Etc
Nothing actually showing an international transfer.
So what now???
KBank say they are unable to show a transfer as International due to the local processing procedure prior to it being credited to your account. Only solution appears to be change to BKB as they are the only one, I think, that does.

For confirmed bachelors getting married is nearer to doing a pole vault, sans pole, than a hurdle and that makes it an incredibly difficult thing for them so you have to have sympathy for those guys. Nigh impossible for the very old while quietly living out their days and then being confronted by this problem, that may be when arriving at immigration to renew their retirement extension. It may cause some to choose the ultimate solution, very sad!! :-( Another problem created by Thai immigration and the BE with no thought given to the elderly bachelor!
Maybe this topic will be raised with the relevant authority and hopefully given serious consideration as I'm sure nobody wants even a single person to commit suicide as a result of the proposed change.

The Thai police will not waste their time fiddling with Thais. They know that most Thais have no money. This law will disproportionately affect farangs. After all we know that all of the farang tourists are wealthy!
It is news to me that "most Thais have no money" if they are driving expensive cars and there are lots of them to be seen.

Yes the Win10 is a bit tricky but since it's for his business then okay I would say.
I bought my Win10 on Ebay for app 10$ and didn't have any problems so far, but I think the product key is from a binned PC, sooo.
My PC was around 43k baht + a 28" 4K monitor
On 8/25/2018 at 3:21 PM, kekalot said:personally, I paid much more for better computer but if you are asking if the price is too high then you likely do not even know what you are getting
it's a fine machine but I would do the following:
get a better power supply. never even heard of "Cougar" PS, lol
ditch the Windows 10 and get it elsewhere, can easily be gotten on ebay as other have mentionned for 10-15$ but very easily under 1500 baht
ditch office home whatever it is (probably office 365 home?) unless you ABSOLUTELY need it,
if you just need a word processor/excel/powerpoint you can use OpenOffice for free and it's practically the same. this similarly I can get for 1500 baht, probably cheaper on eBay
use the difference to buy a proper case, ac powered speakers - none of that just speakers and to computer weak stuff (or headphones), keyboard and mouse (none seem to be listed on there) and a UPS.. you will want the UPS for the crappy electric they use here even if its small one
the prices he is giving you seem to be market prices but that motherboard seems to be the cheapest available (b360m is very vague to be honest)
I been doing builds all my life.. if you need some assistance you can PM me.
Totally agree about Apache Open Office, in my view it is also better than MS Office. Have used it for a number of years without problems.
A logitech laser mouse and keyboard are also worth having unless you like cables cluttering up your desk and can be bought from many places like Lazada for instance at a lower cost. Battery life is not a problem and both the mouse and kd have an on/off switch.
The other main item you use every day is the monitor so compare teh LG with Samsung who in all probability provide LG with some ot the parts.

Ask yourself one question. Why do cars manufactured outside Thailand twice the price as in their local market and why are used cars so expensive here?
It is also worth noting that customs will not provide any idea of the potential duties and taxes payable until they have seen the car!

If it is so difficult for the local population to get a license in Thailand how come those who live in, for instance the UK can and do manage to pass the very difficult driving tests, both written and on the road? They may find it difficult but do not complain and appreciate that driving is a lot safer there, When returning to Thailand for a holiday that is when they really appreciate how dangerous the roads are here.
Will it ever change, not unless a similar system is adopted. That is as likely as changing which side of the road to officially drive on!

Have always driven around with the windows partly open, except when very hot/humid or going on a long trip. Many years ago some locals used to ask about it but I have since noticed that many now do the same thing! Even my wife does the same.

Having lost my teenaged daughter and only-child to a car accident three months after my father died. I can acutely understand exactly where this father is at this moment. We're members of a small club and trust me, you don't want to be in it.
My condolences to the father and family. I know it's simply devastating. And 'No', the pain never goes away. You just learn to live around it.Agree with your sentiment and there is another very small club that you do not want to be a member of. That is losing three wives.

The referendum was twenty months ago and the government seems not a whole lot more prepared for the consequences than they were then. Brexit is a huge, fiendishly complex process of untangling ties that have evolved over forty years or so, and the likelihood of them being severed in a reasonable manner within two years was always nonsense.
There is an obvious solution. The UK is simply not prepared for Brexit at this moment, so it should swallow its pride, admit that, and put off the whole idea for a generation. If there is still a desire on the part of her citizens to leave the EU in... twenty years(?), then there can be another referendum held, but this time with the proper preparation.
Continuing down this path will cause more harm that good, despite the results of the Referendum. Common sense desperately needs to beak out.
Common sense did break out. Europe is a mess as you may well know, due to the large percentage of people voting for minority political parties as they are disenchanted with the self important unelected bureaucrats that operate the systems for their own personal benefit and financial gain. Once the UK has disentangled itself from an unwanted political and judicial control by Brussels then the benefits will begin to appear. The UK voters wanted a trading arrangement, nominally called the Common Market, that was purely a facade for the creation of a European state. The politicians want it to be one country with one currency, one set of laws, one central bank, one army, one police force and of course one controlling european parliament, with Brussels calling the shots and making all the trading decisions with countries of their choosing.
They are petrified that the UK, being the second largest economy within the EU, will not only take their money and run but will be successful in agreeing lucrative trading deals without the interference of Brussels. The list is long but the US, China, India and former Commonwealth countries come to mind along with many others who may well be members of the EU too. Time will tell but I wouldn't bet against the whole idealistic european dream coming unstuck at the seams in the not too distant future.
Finally if you want to believe what the left wing Guardian rag spouts then it's 'up to you'.

There are always going to be a core of disenchanted people that will vociferously complain about anything that does not meet their own agenda. The very small number of Remoaners seem incapable of accepting the vote and have made claims that their voters were the 'intelligentsia' while those who do not support their views are are thick idiots at best. Can't recall Cameron et al being honest in his presentation of the 'facts' or his summing up of what he had achieved in his negotiations in getting his demands agreed by reg EU.

Unless you have side impact bars extra air bags are not going to be much help. Ultra high tensile steel from the front to rear wheel arches on the floorpan and the bodyshell designed to rise in front of the windscreen are more important factors.
