Well, we know how reliable WHO information has been during a pandemic. Subverted by the CCP.

Chlorine works by decomposing to form nascent oxygen, which oxidizes any organic compound it encounters. It's the surface proteins and carbohydrates of bacteria and viruses that get attacked. The organism is not necessarily killed, but it is deactivated. Complete destruction is then a function of time and chlorine concentration. Chlorine also forms chloramines by reacting with proteins on the surface of organisms, and they are disinfectants in their own right. They are measured by the Total Available Chlorine concentration. Saliva, urine etc. are also oxidized quite rapidly as dissolved organics.

Basic physical chemistry says the reaction between any solid and a liquid or gas becomes increasingly efficient with decreasing size of the solid. Bacteria are 10 - 20 times the size of most viruses, coronavirus is an average virus at 125 nm diameter.

My rather long-winded answer to your question is, at 1- 3 ppm FAC, your pool is a killing floor for COVID-19.

    Ummm No.
There are many factors that go into making a healthy swimming pool beyond chlorine. So what percentage of  chlorine is active as OCI or NOCI at PH 7.0 or at 7.8, and which is the most effective pathogen killer, get googling ! How do other chemical levels affect this ? Indeed, is it outdoors or indoors...eek ?
But as has been proved by a study in the UK, a correctly maintained pool will kill Covid effectively and is one of the safest places to socialise, with common sense of course.
Let's hope Thais finally see sense on pool usage

  2. Hi,

Asking on behalf of a friend who's GF has left him and isn't willing to help.

He currently has a Non Imm visa for being parent to their Son. This is due to expire soon and he does not believe immigration will give him a 1 year extension as he can not show pictures with him the child and the mother. However he does have copy of her ID, housebook and birth certificate (child has his surname).

He has been told that he can exit Thailand (thus cancelling the visa) at Savannakhet and he can obtain a new Non Imm with the paperwork he currently has.

Does anyone know the paperwork requirements for this type of visa at Savannakhet ? Or has this happened to anoyone else and they have some experience on what to do ?

His backup would be get a tourist visa if they turn him down. That will get him back in the country and give him some time to explore other options.

    Thanks

Just watch how much you are buying in one go, it doesn't have a great shelf life, especially at temp above 25degC.

It will last longer at lower concentration. So if you buy say 20% solution, dilute it 1:1 down to 10%.

    Bulk suppliers, sorry, don't know.

Thanks...purchased 280kg of 10% solution for a good price. Much cheaper than pool shops etc. Will keep me going for a month !!

  4. Hi, does anyone know any manufacturers of Sodium Hypochlorite, where I can purchase large'ish quantities, happy to get 1,000 litres or more if the price is right.

Swimming pool shops are OK but want to cut out the middle man and save a few baht.

    Cheers,

  5. Not got to the bottom of it yet but things have gotten a bit better.

Phones are working OK, missus was over exaggerating ! I connected my laptop directly to the router and it is working fine. Interestingly I have no problems with the WiFi card as I have 2 places where I stay and it hasn't got any problems with a non TRUE WiFi in the other place.

Hey ho can live with it connected by wire for now.

    Cheers,

It is because of true's transparent proxy.

if you keep vpn open, surfing won't be a problem.

Thanks....so I am OK from my computer but anyone using my WiFi on phones etc will have problems.

    Anyways of changing/disabling this ?

    Thanks

  7. Hi,

I have just had TRUE Internet 50Mb/20Mb installed, 799 baht a month. When using www.speedtest.net it is regularly showing speeds of 53Mb/23Mb.

All good....BUT....Using Facebook the internet seems to drop out and all contacts go offline. I am unable to scroll quickly through newsfeed as it locks waiting to load. Various other websites are affected too, if not everything.

If I turn on my VPN (free via Opera) connecting to Singapore the the troubles go away.

So it would appear to be connection within Thailand, or problem with router ? Not really sure.

Has anyone got any ideas  ?

    Thanks for your help :)

Just an idea to "outsmart" the tessaban.
There are companies in Thailand that refurbish and remodel 20 and 40 foot shipping containers to complete homes with bedrooms, kitchens, toilets, showers etc. Cost 150-300k
Buy one of those, put them on the land. Get the blue book / address. Sell the container again. You might loose a few thousand baht, but cheaper than building a house from scratch I think.

555 That is a great idea.

Decided to get a lawyer, I call him Saul, who has a few contacts. Job done and her 'shop' now has a blue book/address....cost 5k. Now can sort out everything else with ease :)

  9. Thanks blackcab....that makes a bit more sense now.

Unfortunately she was told she could build her shop without permission, which I believe is correct, but as she didn't already have a registered building on the land then I guess we will be paying to smooth the way for the inconvenience we have made for some officials. Hey ho TiT :)

  10. Hi,

My GF has some land and has built a business on the land. Couple of small buildings etc.

Anyway, she has had a small 'temporary' electric supply but now needs to upgrade to connect the buildings. This has been refused by the Electric company as there is no official address for that land from the local TessaBaan.

So contacted the TessaBaan and they will NOT give an address as there is NO house on the land.  They even came out and said we can't even use one of the buildings because it wasn't originally listed as a house and has no bedroom.

Surely it is possible to have a business on land with an official address where there is NO house ? I'm guessing it'll come down to silver crossing palms as is often the way here.

Anyone got any knowledge on this sort of thing.

    Cheers for any help,

  11. Hello Boatman,  did you ever find a solution for your concrete carport?  I have just finished concreting my own drive and carport and I want to apply a concrete sealer too.  After much research, and a little bit of luck, I found a Jotun product called Penguard Clear Sealer. It is a two part epoxy resin specifically formulated for bare concrete floors. The floors need to be cured and dried for at least 28 days before application. The sealer is sold in 4 liter tins, and the hardener in 1 liter tins. It should follow that you will need to mix 1 part hardener to 4 parts sealer. It can be applied by brush, roller or spray gun. The theoretical spreading rate is between 8.8 to 14.7 m2/l (depending on thickness). So in theory 1 x 4 l tin should cover between 35 to 60 m2 . (The technical data sheet can be found at https://www.smlmarinepaints.co.uk/files/library/files/DATA_SHEETS/Penguard_Clear_Sealer_data.pdf ).  I found the product at a very reasonable price (1,100 baht - hardener and sealer) in Thaiwasadu.  They also supply the product in a limited range of colours.

Assuming a brushed concrete finish, how slippy would that be when it has water on it. Or do they have the anti slip granules to add to it.

Sent from my SM-N910C using Thaivisa Connect mobile app

  12. Thanks chaps.

The pool will be approx 32m x 15/20m and the large 'decking' will be for seating etc. Building is still ongoing but getting closer to completion. Large covers for shade are now in down one side.

I hadn't really put much thought to the flooring as the brushed concrete looked great (and not slippy) but obviously with all the building going on it is starting to look worn already.

I didn't really want to use tiles and getting the right type of Epoxy around here is difficult, let alone someone to put it down.

Last thought would be laying the smooth small stones (gravel) for not slippy and easy to clean. But again, been looking around and not found anywhere that does them ( ทรายล้าง ). But I really have no idea on this either.

For water run  off I have a 10inch pipe down one side of the land.

    Cheers,

PM me and I'll send pic if you want a look

  13. The tiles look great.

Unfortunately I would be looking at a tiled area of around 500sqm.... so thinking Tiles would be very costly.

Went around HomePro and ThaiWasadu and although they have some epoxy they do not have the anti slip that can be added.

Thinking might just go for paint for now, give it a half decent finish look....any ideas on outside concrete paint ?

  14. Hi,

I have a large concrete decking around my pool, which is brush finished so it is rough and non slip.

I am thinking of 'tidying' it up by using some form of paint or epoxy finish on it.

Anyone have any ideas on products here in Thailand that could be used, I've tried asking in a couple of shops but no success. I was thinking Epoxy with some kind of added non slip agent, do they have that here?

    Thanks for any help tips.

I have this and would agree with Steve, best value for your buck. I would suggest though you forget their (crap) router and buy your own. I got a much better TP-Link VR400 for 2,600 baht.

Hi....so if I was to order the 3BB 50/10 VDSL fibre network (700 baht promotion at the moment). I would say no to the 1,000 baht for the 3BB VDSL Router 4 Port WiFi and buy a TP-Link VR400 or similar and the fibre would connect straight into it....or would I need anything else.

    Thanks,

Thanks....do you know if a letter of residency can be obtained via post to Phitsanulok as it is a 6 hour round trip from my place to there and back, and would probably have to go back the next day to pick it up. Really don't fancy that :(

I do have a receipt from a recent TM30 that I filed in Phitsanulok...maybe that will be enough I hope.
