Yes they were married in Amhur in Thailand 2009, after the marriage the guy returned home and never returned, he has just divorced here through the Swiss Court system, they had a child together prior to marriage but he has had no contact with his kid and this was declared within the divorce settlement in Swiss.

As my GF is in Thai she spoke to a Thai lawyer who informed her she can divorce there in Thia with this certificate but needs it translating and certify 1st by Thai Embassy Switzerland, he stated then she could take this to the Amphur for register the divorce there...he didnt say anything about needing both copies of the certificate though?, do you mean both copies of the divorce certificate including her now ex-husbands?

There are probably two options:

1. as you describe, the Thai embassy certifies the Swiss documents are true, which might requires confirmation (legalization) of the Swiss Foreign Ministry.

2. The swiss embassy in Thailand certifies the docuemnts are through, with confirmation from the Thai ministry of Foreign Affairs.

She better contacts the Thai embassy in Switserland and or the Swiss Embassy in Thailand and see what is the best way to proceed.

Where they married in Thailand at the amphur? If so she will need to submit both marriage certificates.

Mr Newbie here, My Thai lady has recently got divorced from her Swiss Ex-he divorced her in Switzerland with her full consent

(he is in Switzerland she is in Thailand), she has been told that if she can obtain a copy of her Swiss divorce certificate and get it translated and stamped by the Thai Embassy in Switzerland then this can be used to regsiter her divorce at the Amphur in Thailand, has anybody got / heard of experience of this and is this so that once the Thai lady obtains her foriegn divorce certificate she needs to get it translated and stamped by the Thai Embassy of that Country and on completion of this she can use it at Amphur?, does it still need to be taken to MFA in BKK before it will be excepted at Amphur?
