  1. Apologies to Cobra and Nam (above)

yes lets all give the whole thing bad press....i am a global perpetual tourist!

You are not a tourist, tourists don't earn money, they just spend it. You are a working nomad .... where do you pay tax on your income?

//edit/sshhh.... let's see how long it takes for the 183 day rule to be mentioned :o

most western countries have tax treaties with thailand to prevent double taxation. So if above poster is deriving income from properties etc then nothing to feel guilty about as he is accountable for local tax and thailand is not going to risk their favorable trading relationships with western countries to try to double tax people. Forget about it.

by Thai law you are liable to pay 15% of your gross rental income if you don't file income tax here. If you set up a company and do file income tax returns, you can deduct expences.

  2. "I think that we are all going to make some drastic adjustments. The face of Thai tourism will change."

    *****

i don't think that somebody staying in Thailand more than three months is or can be called a tourist. i also don't see a reason why i should make drastic adjustments. but i admit that it is bad luck and unjust for those who would like to live in Thailand but do not meet the criteria for longer stays.

strange i still think of myself as a tourist, i left uni in 1997 and have been bouncing about the world since. I have a couple of properties now from my efforts and trading company. Just arrived back in Thailand. but have been here for the most part of the past decade. 30 years old now. Whats next? Dont want a work permit, dont want to marry but now cant really consider Bangkok as my base. Any offers?

My friend just got a 60 days TR visa in KL, after staying on a TR visa + 30 days extention. No changes there.

  3. You should get a re-entry permit. It will be valid until the end of your entry stamp (April 14). Upon arrival, your passport will be stamped "until April 14". If you don't get the re-entry permit, your visa will not be valid any longer upon return. You can not re-new your visa, but can get extention, if you get legal employement and obtain a work permit, get married to a Thai citizen or apply for a "special invetsor" visa. It can only be done at the Bangkok branch of Immigration.

    Now I am confused.

I have a Used single entry non imm b visa that has been staped USED and am on an entry stamp that expires on April 14th. I leave for the states on March 7th and return march 18th. Can my visa be extended with or w/o a WP after I return if I get a re-entry permit?

    matt

  4. In my experience it is very difficult to get a non-emigrant visa. Being engaged is by no means grounds for one. The easiest type of visa is a “special investor” visa. If you have 3million Baht to wire to your savings account in Thailand into a government-owned Bank (not a private bank, such as Bangkok Bank, but a government owned one, such as Thai Military, for example), Immigration will grant you a one-year visa. You can even change a tourist visa in this case, but this can only be done by immigration in Bangkok.

You can also come with a tourist visa (60 days) and it can be extended for 30 days first time and 14 days second time at the local immigration in Chiang mai, where you plan to stay. Then, you’d have to go out of Thailand and get another visa like this and do it all over again. This ma also give you a better idea of your girlfriend and once you get married, you can get a non-immigrant visa type “O” outside of Thailand by presenting your marriage certificate. Once I Thailand, you can get a one-year visa “to support Thai wife”, but you’ll need to deposit 800,000 baht in any local Bank.

    Hope this helps.
