  1. Just buy a 2nd hand iPad gen 6 or 7. Lots of them in marketplace. Apple is still supporting those sets and will be for the next 3 or 4 years. For the time being, there are lots of games and self learning apps to prepare your son for school. And best part is, when the screen breaks, which it will, replacement ain’t that expensive or you can choose to buy another if it’s too costly in your area.

  2. Are you drunk ALL the time?

No...only when I have to talk to people like you, but thanks for asking

And the infantile mind reveals itself, I rest my case.

Please refer to your post #7 but being of an infant mind, am sure you will have more immature retort but you will assume that they are educated thoughts or wise remarks, to the extent of praising yourself in the art of sarcasm and everything but in reality, painting yourself as who you truly are, which is the opposite of everything you think yourself as.

  3. Some, not all locals believes that ONLY prositutes marries a foreigner hence the biase reaction. For your in laws, it may be just that or the "face" thing.

Other reason could be they expect huge sums monthly which is not forth coming from you.

Whatever it is, just let it be cos if you insists to have your pics in their house, would you be happy if they insists how you bring up your kids?

  4. Get a night stick, attend a short course on how to use it. It's more practical and safer especially if you have small kids, unless you are staying in the boondocks.

What's the process that "a farang" has to go through to get a weapon's license in thailand? what are the requirements and all?
  5. The women gets it, the men don't.

There are most likely many men with plenty of cash willing to invest in a business to make a living in Thailand. So, actually it would be a win win situation for both. Women have financial security and men can live in Thailand. Just in most cases it doesn't work. Or does it ? What are your opinions/experiences ?

  6. Repeat your story BUT turn a few things around. Like you're in your home country, you're the gal and your partner is male and a foreigner. What would the lower class "people" of your home country do?

I have recently started to get very frustrated with being stared at - this only really happens when I am with the girlfriend and it's particularly by lower class Thai guys. I am not just talking about someone seeing a farang and being slightly intrigued or surprised either. Btw we are both 30 and have a regular respectable image, my girlfriend although not a front page model is quite attractive.

I am quite accustomed to having people discretely look us both up and down in most places, particularly out of town, perhaps wondering why we don't fit their stereotypical perception of an old farang-bargirl couple or maybe they are just curious. While its not something I appreciate I just accept its part of life here. The staring that bothers me in the prolonged staring at myself and particularly my girlfriend as if she is a piece of meat or lower class because she is with a farang, the staring continues even when it is apparent I have noticed and am wondering why they are staring. Now I appreciate a good looking girl the same as the next guy but any visual appreciating is done very discretely and respectfully and ends immediately should the girl or whoever she is with looks like they are about to notice. I find this staring disrespectful and downright rude and am pretty close to saying something in Thai to the effect of stop staring/you have no manners/do have a problem. My gf being a typical pleasant not confrontational Thai girl will not let me address it or ask them why they are staring. Perhaps I am missing something about Thai culture and how it is OK to stare disrespectfully at people but I somehow doubt they would behave the same if I was Thai.

I would be interested to know if anyone else here shares these experiences and how they handle them. I guess like many things here you should not waste your energy on things you will never change but it has pissed me off to the point I would readily make a scene and a point of out it.

  7. Enter Thailand without any expectations. Do whatever you want, be safe, play safe, don't care what others call or say about you and you'll find Thailand same as anywhere else.

Was wondering what members expectations were about Thailand whilst they were living in their home country and how have these compared to reality now that you are living here.

Although I have not yet been to Thailand, my expections are as follows:

    - Cheaper cost of living

    - Great weather which is nice to live in all year

    - Slim attractive women who are not only after you for your money.

    - Medical care not as good

Clearly after reading thaivisa, I realise that the reality may well be different.

The reason I ask is that I am looking at Thailand as a possible retirement location for the future and am interested in the how the reality of life in Thailand has turned out for the average expat. (as compared to expectations)

    Many Thanks

  8. You have invested enough in Thailand already. At the very most, 50% of your cash transferred here is enough. If you need more, that extra should be made and paid for in Thailand. Don't burn the bridge.

My wife is a Thai and I am migrating over to Thailand soon. I heard foreigner not allow to have land title, car, etc under their name. Only the Thai spouse allow. I am wondering incase (touch wood) my Thai wife has any mishap and how will those properties under my wife name be settle? Can I own them? I'm worry I am not entitle to any of it.does anyone know such situation?

  9. Ok, what's the issue anyway? Any decent fella residing in Thailand for a period of time would know that Thais are not racist. We will come across nationalistic Thais or religious freaks but never racist. What OP has experienced is either nationalism on the Thai part OR it's a case of hierarchy in play. Bear in mind that hierarchy plays a big part in how one is treated in this country. Dress and behave like a millionaire and you'll be treated as one. Dress and behave like a bum, well, everyone knows the answer.

ER in Thailand is on par with most countries. That is if they see you bleeding or high fever, they'll provide triage or IV drip first and ask questions later. Other than that, they will usually turn you away to the nearest pharmachy.

As for the luk kreung, it's either nationalism or he seriously offended someone and in Thailand, it's not a good idea to offend anyone.

  10. Other than the occasional claim that Thailand in sports or anything else is better than anywhere else, have not heard or dare say will hear that phrase. I don't volunteer info about my home country unless asked and always, i'll try to make it grim so as not to sound better. It's only the well travelled Thais who knows the truth about where i come from and that's where conversation becomes more interesting. Other than that, am just a passing hermit as far as the locals are concerned.

  11. Sometimes being soft gives ignorant people the impression that a person is weak. Raising voices and avoidance creates the same thing.

You yourself have to decide what is it you want. For me, i will just make a police report to make sure the stone throwing stops.

  12. OP, tons of answers to your question but in the end, there's no answer but more questions.

Factories in Thailand function differently as there's an army of workers reporting to everyone or no one.

Factory employed staffs are paid monthly and above minimum wage with all the bells and whistles. Then you have the factory employed staff with workers who are paid by the factory employed staff and lastly, the outsider with workers to supply the factory.

Above is just an example of the types of workers in a factory. Which or what type of worker your family falls into is hard to say cos everything seems official from uniform to rules. Only difference is the salary and payment due for work done.

  13. Sorcery has been around for centuries and it is widely believed in asian culture that any omen befallen to them are either from ancestors, environment or curse. In your case, they claim it's a curse hence, just bring her to a white sorcerer to lift the curse.
