  1. I have a Minix X6 & Minix U1 and have been very happy with them. Running IPTV, Kodi with Plex, Motor Replays etc.

Happy that is, until I recently got Netflix and discovered the Minix is not a 'supported Netflix device' and so doesn't get surround sound.

My PC (Windows 10 Netflix app and Plex server) does get surround, but its in a different room.

So, as I have a buyer for the Minix x6 and need a replacement box, I am looking for a new device.

As Minix and most other Android TV boxes don't get Netflix 5.1 (a Netflix limitation, it seems) and I don't want to move my PC into the lounge, I need a new box that will give me the full Netflix experience.

Reading this thread, it would seem the Nvidia Shield fits the spec I want.

    My question is :-

Is the Shield, now 3-4 yrs old, still the box to buy?

If so, where in Thailand is best to buy it (a respectable company that honours warranties etc)

Or should I source from the US - will the voltage be 110v or ok for Thailand & what about customs duty...

    Thanks in advance

  3. I posted a reply, but cant see it so apol's it it is here twice...

You havent mentioned looking in the recycle bin, have you looked there? Under Explorer or File Explore.

I use Microsoft SyncToy to sync important folders accross different PC and also copy to external HD as a precaution.

I also have my C: drive (System) on its own drive or partition and store my files on separate partitions or drives.

I never use the default Documents folders on the system drive. - Then I can refresh or rebuild my C:drive without impacting my files.

I hope you find your Photos, they are always so special...

  4. Many thanks for all the replies and suggestions. The vacuuming does not lift the blackness from the bottom. I didn't think it was algae as there wasn't any evidence on the walls. But not much shifts the stuff off the bottom.

To day I tried jet washing the bottom of the pool. I have a long hose on the jet wash and the electric part is some 3 meters from the water....., this worked much better, but still needed a few applications.

I inspected the now floating residue and it seems to be a vey dark green. And as I said looks black on the bottom groat. So I am coming rapidly to the conclusion that this is ALGAE!

So Swimmingpoolsthailand looks live you had the answer. Can you send me your contact details and information on what I need to clear it. Also I may need a good testing kit to test for all the various things of a saltwater pool.

In hind sight, as I have only been using a simple two colour test kit, not adding salt very often as the water tasted salty, and with the recent rise in temperature of the pool, water top ups because of the evaporation - there was not enough chlorine being produced to arrest the growth. The burning has now finished, but the pool blackness is still increasing.

By the way, the water is crystal clear, so another reason I didn't think it was an algae built up.

Once again thanks again thanks to everyone and Swimmingpoolsthailand please send the details I requested. Cheers. G

Where I live, the easy way to know when your pool has algae coming, is you'll see a few water boatsman in the water.

    waterboatmen_300.jpg

(the ones I get look light yellow - almost white when in the water)

I will see these guys a day or two before I'll see any evidence of algae.. so as soon as I spot one (have a few times) a put a little algaecide in the skimmer, and the problem is solved.

Now that's what I saw some weeks ago also on the overflow some weird things like scorpions but without a tail, brown in colour and live in the rivers. Only a couple and both were dead. I need to get that algae treatment....

Are there any suppliers near Nakhon Phanom or around that can ship to NP?

  6. We live in rural Isaan and have a pool. This is our first year and so are discovering the fun and games of living in very active farmland.

Our pool is made up of blue tiles and white grout. It is a salt water pool. With dust in the dry season and two rice harvests a year, there are a number of months of rice field burn offs. The cinders get everywhere and of course into the pool. Being black they are really noticeable, they seem to adhere to the grout and need a good brushing to loosen them. Brushing is relatively easy in shallow areas, but brushing can be difficult in the deeper parts.

Does anyone have the same problem and an idea how to keep the pool clean without all the brushing every few weeks.

A cover has been suggested, but that is impractical as the dirt is around for most of the year.

+ve part I am getting fitter with all the brushing.

Psst. I do use the vacuum, which picks up some, but as I said the cinders seem to hold on tight to the grout and resist all efforts to vacuum them off.

  7. Hi There All

Lostinissan & Dilligad - Thanks for the Ubon link to Kawasaki. I might try it for the next service (after 6ks). Only a 520 klm round trip....

Services are every 6k. It seems the services get bigger every 12,000 k with intermittent smaller 6 k ones in between. My bike is now about 46k's.

I have had my Versys for over 3 yrs, its a 2011 Black one. I have the genuine Givi Tracker boxes which I had fitted during a trip to Malaysia.

I used to live in Phuket, so have traveled into Malaysia a number of times and also much of Southern Thailand.

I also had some trips into the North, Mai Sot, Mai Sae, Chiang Mai & Rai, Isaan etc & Laos, before we moved to Isaan just over a year ago.

Was back in Phuket last Oct, Nov & Dec for a couple of tours and also Sepang MotoGP.

I haven't used the bike much in Isaan, mainly due to settling in etc and other things going on with the family. Although did take a trip out with my mate Ron (from Sakhon Nakon) to Loei to meet the Gentleman's Club.

I am located near Nakhon Phanom and happy to ride out to meet new friends and riders. We have some nice roads and sights this way if you come this way.

DepDavid - I tend to get my bike serviced according to the Kawasaki Schedule (i think Kawaski know more about bikes than I do and so follow their advice) - with some oil changes in between if I think the bike needs it or wants some pampering..!!

I love the Versys - I used to rent ER-6n's and Ninja 650's, but liked the more upright touring style of the Versys. Not many to rent, and after the full front fairing came loose on a rental Ninja 650 (i have just previously managed to catch the falling off mirror, I decide that was enough of rental bikes!! I have a bigger screen on my Versys which slows the top speed a bit, but keeps the wind noise down and comfort (no buffering) levels UP!.

I too like the New Versys, but I would want to see the matching panniers, before I gave it any more thought. The engine has been tweaked a little on the new one and the styling is similar to the Versys 1000.

My Versys has been so good I would be reluctant to change.

Any way enough of my post. As I said, happy to meet up for a ride and a chat, whether your way or over this way.

All the best and thank you for the Servicing suggestions.

  8. Hey Anthony5, I have to admit, we found our cause. we tend to recycle and store used cans and bottles in a box near the back door. All cans, bottles, yogurt cups etc, are rinsed before they go into the box... But it seems, a fruit juice bottle, used and still with its plastic and metal ring pull cap was put the the box before being rinsed.

It was full of eggs and flies, but I still don't know how they got in and out with the cap on...

But they are small little blighters...

  9. We have the same kind of windows with built in sliding 'mosquito' nets.

The sliding doors are left open and the sliding 'mosquito' nets are left closed for ventilation.

The flies we get are very small, not sure what sort they are, they may be fruits flies' but they seemed to get through in the hundreds.

You want to get your wife, GF to search the Thai internet as mine did and found a bag of Thai herbs and things that we purchased in the south in a market.

But we have tried looking in Isaan without success.

I think the herbs keeps a few things away, but the flies still came until recently.

Now there are a lot less - Last month they were everywhere - they even slip through the electronic Tennis Bat...

Maybe the herbs worked or maybe they were just seasonal and now the flying termite things are eating them. At least they cant get through the mesh!!

All the best with a resolution.

  10. Many thanks for all the replies.

On the recommendation of my Thai friends in Phuket Kawasaki Club, I am just back from Korat where Kawasaki carried my service 46k. They had a comprehensive list of what was needed to be done.

It would seem, that many things had not been done on the 40k (42k) service last year at Udon Thani. Which is what I thought and mentioned above.

Kaorat, were professional, checked everything they should (infact they repeated the 42K service) and more checking the entire bike.

It rides like new again !!

Hey, they also have bike ramps, so loading on the pickup is a lot easier!!
