  1. i flew in and out international dont know about demestic, everything was fine .

Just one concern outside to get a taxi when busy you need a lot of patience but thats the same in any aiport .

Here is my first experience of the new airport in Thailand

1)air conditioning, never seen such a design, no ducting and hot, poor distribution

2)Signage for flights too small for the elderly to see the flight schedules, letters too small

3)internet too expensive 100 baht per 20 mins

4)restaurants at departure very expensive a simple meal for 1 person about 350 baht, air port prices expected to be expensive but it is too much for Thai or international std, later found another location at Mez between departure and arrival cheaper.

5)Taxis for departure a breeze when I arrived is OK

6)Seems like not enough shops and also cannot seem to find things

7)No Public address system not sure if there are any

8)Maybe too many "tourist" alot of thai people come to admire the airport so crowded.

9)Public telephones seems the one I tried to use not working although very high tech.

10)Toilet exist however must look for them

11)revolving doors ? how to push in the trolleys, not sure why this is designed for Winter coutries for this airport, doors will be damaged in no time

Generally can use this air port , however there is room for improvement for teething problems, possible too many people coming in to admire the new airport, I think this airport will improve in a few months time , hopefully.

  2. alright here's one question / bit of a poll..

I've been working for the past 6 months on a business idea, which is good to go live at the moment. I'm getting a bit sick however of doing all the work myself all the time and was wondering where others that have gone before me found their (Thai) partners.

just a bit of backgorund I'm developing a design business, have a good creative network and a reasonable client network. I'm ideally looking for either a partnership with an existing Thai agency that has some resources in-house or a Thai partner with a background in client servicing / project management (perhaps even expats with a history in advertising or design?). Although I don't expect any of you to be potential candidates, I'm curious if others struggle with finding partners as well or do you have a solid approach that you care to share?

I'm not new to the business, have done it for a few years already but I guess I didn't network enough?

Not easy to find good partners especially Thai partners, I worked in Thailand for abt 3 years the best partners are the ones that already a network of customers and you can tap onto their nextwork.

However if you can find a partner that already is in this line of work, he will be an asset to you and I presume you not a Thai.

We almost partnered a army colonel however found out later not a good idea.

Now we partner with a Thao chinese sales manager that has a proven track record of 100 million per year on sales.

You will need a partner that has connections , network and is Thai

  4. Hi

I am about to move to BKK and so I am looking for a condo.

1 bedroom-bath-airco-good security etc... preferably in the sukhumvit area.

    Price range 8-15k bht max.

(maybe 20k if no other choice)

Is it better to use a real estate company services or to look by myself using the help of thai relatives

    I have in BKK?

    Thanks a lot

There are many condo apartments in Suk from4 to 8 K and cheap, around Suk 80+, some you can get for 5 ,000 baht service apartment, some of my Thai staff get them about 4K

Just ask a Thai friend for help, however u may need to pay deposit for 2 months and normally after that the deposit is never returned, so just dont pay rent for 2 months before u leave, or elase u may not get your deposit, sometimes depends on your landlord

I rented my condo for about 4 K with air con, hot water and furnished

  5. I am looking for a thai company that can do a website with the whole package. From registration to design, payment systems and putting it out on the web. They should know how to make it searchable everywhere on the net and things like that too.

This is not a very big site.

I will ONLY be interested in companys recommended and tried out by foreigners.

A good company that always answers the phone, get things done and so on is what I am looking for.

I want to see work done by them and talk with existing clients before starting up.

Not looking for a big professional web company for big clients. Need to be good price on their service also.

    Thx

My web page designer is good, she is a thai web page designer can can speak good english

  9. My suggetions are

    1) Build a retirement home for the aged snowbirds , and that way you will earn money and run the buiz , people from Japan, korea, Singapore , USA could be interessted

    2) Buy property in the Sukumbvit area , property likely to go up

3)Run and school that teaches in English, leading to University degree based on the Singapore sylabbas, as Thailand is still lacking good and cheap schools that teach in English

there are many restrictions in this area however with the right connections the restrictions can be overcome

4)Invest in a company that will convert diesel or petrol to gas NGV vehicles, this is in demand as oil prices are up

5)go into the Oil and gas industry as oil prices are up

if u need more info contact me at [email protected]

  11. Thermal imaging ('thermography') is a growing business in the UK and there are many applications for a man with a camera - building heat insulation surveys (in hot climates used to prevent hot air coming IN reducing air con efficiency) but more importantly any application where heat will highlite a present or future problem, e.g electric power distribution (cables, bus bars), electric motors, bearings etc (even now being used in race horse health diagnosis!).

Charging for the services of a man and camera in the UK is a viable business, although perhaps now a little flooded.

What chance do you think this business would have in Thailand, given that charges can't be cheap due to the purchase price of a T.I camera. In the region of 20kBaht per day for use of an experienced man and camera, providing images and reports?

I would be interested to hear any views, particularly from those in the building, oil drilling / pumping, or power electrics industries.

I have some knowledge of language and culture.

    Thanks.

I have beed\n doing infra red scanning here for almost 2 years and now decided to call it quits, as I have the following problems here

Competitors here is the EGAT the electrical generating authority and they are very cheap

many customers dont want to do this here

alot of corruption and some are packaged with service providers maintanance

poor knowleged of the Thai language

Unable to get good staff to carry the camera , camera so expensive that we dont trust any Thai staff to handle

Not enough customers here and price too low to sustain the office

Perhaps u will have better luck as I just closed my company down , seems to be easy to do this here, however not enough repeat customers to sustain

If u need further information , please email me at <snip>

  13. I am interested to know how much money in USD a person would need to live a comfortable life in Bangkok. Similar to middle class in the United States.  Thanks for taking the time to respond.

    Clothing =

Eating out twice a week at a nice restrurant =

    I can speak english fluently

please email me at [email protected]

my mobile no in Thailand is 019078281

People prefer to live outside BKK as the air is better and cleaner

  15. I am not sure where to post this (so I'll try to cc to General). Anyway, I just received a brochure for a GPS car navigation system that is made by Garmin, a well known name in the GPS business. It operates in Thai or English...the street names and the voice directions. It retails for 48,000 baht. I have used one in America and it works beautifully. Though I usually drive a set number of places in BKK and up-country it would be nice to have this helper when I have to sail in uncharted waters.

Anyone familiar with this car navigation system....or any other one for Thailand?

The Garmin is much cheaper in Singapore due to the Tax in Thailand, example the etrex is only US90 dollars about 4,000baht here at the book shop is retails for abot 7 k to 8000baht maybe tax

you cna easily download the map for the garmin of thailand from the internet and it is free they have a few maps that can download for Thailand,

i have using a Garmin 4 for the last 5 years in Thailand and it is good , I can mark the spots, however no colour, but functional

We will e producign our own GPS in 6 months time,

  16. I have been in Thailand for 2 years already, in any country there are pros and cons living here

    my comments

The location that you could be staying is the Sukumvit area, the area where all the activities are, shopping, schools, thai language schools and book shops that sell english books, the infra structure there is good for shopping and eating

For the 40K baht budget your company is spending, you can get a nice place bungalow , however must search for it.

Internet there is also good, cable internet etc

As for learning the Thai language there are schools there that are cheaper in the Sukumvit area , also there is the Mass Transit located there so transport is not a problem

For people who have children, the international schools here are expensive, something like 200,000 per year

Libraries with english books and in general libraries are not readily available

UBC cable TV with english programmes are available for a price, or else you will not be able to receive only Thai programmes, so make sure there is cable in the place that you rent, and the cable must be english programmes, eg CNN etc

    Pollution is bad

nobody jogs in Bangkok as the pollution is bad

    normally people join the GYM

Make sure you drink bottled water, do not take water from the tap even for cooking purposes.

For groceries there are many supermarkets Tesco, carrfour etc all very well managed

Generally Bangkok people are friendly and nice, because of the buddist culture, however some view foreigners as ATM machines

Have a good stay in Bangkok

  17. Hi,

I was just after some general advise, and wondered if anyone else had been in the same situation. I've been offered a job in Bangkok that would seem like a great opportunity. I'm a Brit, my wife is American and we currently live just outside New York. We also have a 1 year old son. Some of the worries we have whilst deciding upon the move over there are is the polution in Bangkok as bad as they say, and would it be bad for such a young child? My wife would be giving up her job, are there social groups she could join, gyms, etc, and what do you do to keep your mind active when you aren't working? I've seen houses to rent for about 40,000 Baht/month in compounds with a swimming pool and tennis court. It says that these places are close to subway stations, but are they really far from the middle of Bangkok? And what is the journey to/from work like?

Anyone else made a simular move over with a young family, any regrets, things you'd have done differently, etc?

    Cheers

  18. This is my experience

The following have problems coming into Thailand

Uninterrrupted power supplies , may have to go to the electrical department for testing

    Completed motorcycles

Electronic ballast, dont know why , maybe have factory making them here

Medical machines, magnetic treatment have problems bring thme in, however need time to clear with various departments

  19. Very Interesting story, it take alot of time to know a person and then make a commitment, sometimes girls that suffer and encounter some hardship are the better girls, instead of University girls

My friend stayed in Bangkok/rayong for 3 months on projects basis and got married to a Thai lady with 2 grown kids , ths lady is 38 yrs old, only after 3 months in Thailand

She is a chicken rice seller, dont know if he was charmed , by the lady , it was so fast

He is already quite old already so maybe time was running out for him, not sure...why

  20. I think yes gold is good gift

also nowadays some young ladies prefer white gold

something they cannot find in their country

    example imported stuff

example Guess watch Thailand has heavy import duties on this, whereas in Singaproe much cheaper

Perfume, thailand has alot of perfume cheap stuff they want imported perfume, like Channel, rush 2 etc

Anthing Imported will do, evenr choclate imported something they cannot find in theri country or is too expensive in Thailand due to import duty

  21. I think you got the wrong idea, many normal decent girls will only sleep with you after getting married to her, plutonic relationship with girls sometimes the girl becomes your girlfriend

Yes it is easy to sleep wtih girls from the bars, message areas, however will not be easy to sleep with decent Thai ladies after only meeting them for a month etc

Confusing , there is a thin line from Friendship to GF

There is no fine line; you're either f*****g her or you're not. Friends don't F***

    friends.

  22. I dnot know if you know this term called "GIG" in Thailand, it means a sleeping partner and not a girlfriend to marry

GIG means a girlfriend not intending to marry , however this person has a regular girlfriend, and many GIGS

This is part of Thailand "culture" dont know why, a man can have a girlfriend and can ask his girlfriend even that he wants a GIG

So if this carries on with this person sill is a probelm suggest you change apartment

Bit harsh, Terry.  Why should SHE leave?  Anyway, who says she is living in Thailand?  Maybe she isn't even here and it's a bloke from wherever she is living.

If he can't get the hint, then easing up on the contact is the best thing to do.  Don't go out with him and his friends.

I am trying to shake a persistent ex at the moment.  Phone calls in the middle of the night, gets his son on the phone to ask me "thammai khun mai rak poh?", telling me he is on the way over to my place after I told him I didn't want him to etc.  It's a real battle.  All I can do is avoid his calls and not answer the phone when he calls.

    And if you:

called her and took her out every saturday and Sunday

Send her relatives home on Sunday or paid Taxi fare for her relatives

    Called her every day

    Then sucked in buddy.

  23. What i am saying is this type of thing needs time and patience wile dealing with

the other party, in other words it is not like cutting off a cable

Relationship need time to develope, so it takes time to cut him off, need alot of patience, and in Thailand we need to be alot ofpatience to do thing s here

I told him directly that I just wanna be friends with him. But he never stop botherring me everyday. And my good friend also got botherred by him everyday. Too annoying like a Thai mosquito. I think what I can do is to ignore all his sms and calls. Hope he will stop soon. :o

I think maybe you are not sending the right signal to him

I HAD a Thai GF , whom wanted only to be friends, however wanted me to do many things for her and remaind friends is this possible

example call her and bring her out every saturday and Sunday

Send her relatives home on Sunday or pay Taxi fare for her relatives

    Call her every day

Confusing , there is a thin line from Friendship to GF

So I think in time he should fade away, however friendships take time to develope and in Thailand you need alot of patience for friendship

if you dont have patience I think you better leave Thailand

that seems a bit severe don't you think? the guy can't get the hint so if she doesn't have enough patience to deal with a guy who can't take "no" for an answer she should leave Thailand?
