  1. Yeah it amazed me when i was there how much government stuff is not computerized and old. But private hospital and bank look exactly like they do in the west !

I also sent you another Pm with more info that was hidden in my brain, hope that help

    Thanks wai.gif

  2. OP/Max005: Please PM me you're full name and passport number, then I'll go there and see if I can get it.

Alright ill send u a Pm, Thank u very much for helping a total stranger !

Separate question: did you approach your insurer with the question if this is really essential? It would seem to me that the hospital bills are more important than the police report, or does it really matter how you sustained your injury?

Its not my insurer, here in Canada(Quebec) we have something called SAAQ, it is a government agency that provide basic insurance against injury sustained on the road and its valid everywhere on the planet, you just have to prove the accident happened. My hospital bill were kinda cheap so i dont really care about that, i will get money for my broken clavicle and some loss of sensitivity in my arm. Im scheduled for a surgeries next month and my doctor told me about this insurance thing.

And do they realize that a lot of it (if not all of it) will be in Thai?

Yeah i realize that and on the SAAQ site it doesn't mention any specific language for the police report. they will translate it themselves if they need to.

Thanks again for helping me on this

  3. Hello, about a few month ago i had a motorbike crash in Chiangmai. I was picked up by an ambulance and transfered to the Sarapee hospital.

Now that im back in Canada i found out that i can get compensation for the injury i sustained. All i need is the police report from the accident that i didnt keep with me when returning back home. The police station that handled my case was very close to sarapee hospital so im guessing its called sarapee police station, its a station with a little cofee bar on the left.

I would like them to fax me the report but i know for sure they dont speak english in there soo calling them would be pointless. Should i call the tourist police or the embassy ? Is there a way i can e-mail them ?

Basically all i need is a copy of a report they have in their possession.

Anyway thanks for taking the time to read this.

  4. Hello, i would like to learn to ride a clutch bike. Im not asking for much, just a big open space with a cheap bike to practice the basic of clutch control etc....I would also like to rent something like a d-tracker in the near future to do small road trip around the city.

When i first got here i rented a scooter for basic commuting (first time of my life with one) and i actually liked it, but after 30min-1h it get uncomfortable

Im already familiar with driving stick car and i heard it help when u first start on a gear bike. I also read a bit about riding and i wont need the very basic explanation.

Im also open to learn from a somebody who has time to spare and have a old/cheap motorbike.

    Thanks.

Edit : If u have a cheap gear bike like a 125cc-150 or even a cheap 250...Im willing to rent it from you for half a day just to get the basic since i dont think i really need a teacher, just some time to do some start/stop/slow cornering etc...

  5. At 3000/month, you'll have paid for a new one in just over a year. Why not buy one new? After a couple of years, you'll get at least half your money back making the cost less than 1000B a month. Even if you only kept it for 6 months, I doubt you'd lose 18,000B on it.

    Two reason

    1. im only there for another month and half

2.I dont want to go trough the hassle of inspecting/buying/registering a bike and then having to find a buyer

But i understand your point, if i were to stay longer ill probably buy

Look like im gonna stick my 2500 baht Click for the rest of my stay. Most place seem to charge 4500-5000 for a bigger scooter

  6. I think its the low season, if i managed to rent a 08 click in very good shape for 2500b a month ago (TV suggestion BTW) without leaving my passport i was thinking it would be possible to rent another recent bike for the same price or 500 bath more.

Maybe i got lucky with my bike shop and i should stick with it. The owner have been very helpfull even when i lost my key :whistling:

I just really wanted to try something else.

  7. Alright i was thinking the burma border was pretty close but according to u guys bus is the best option. So bus it is !

But i still need a new ride to be independent from those pricey tuk tuk.

If anybody know any rental shop that have recent Wave FI or Yamaha nuovo/Honda airblade for 3000 a month ? I just dont feel like visiting all of them just to see what they have in stock and most of those have no website

Im very happy with the place i rented my Click, but their wave are older non-FI model

    Thanks

Edit : I forgot to say that there is no way that ill leave my passport at the shop. Ive not been asked for it yet but i heard some place keep it.

  8. Hi im looking to try those new Honda Wave FI, for the moment ive been using a Honda Click but i find the wheel a bit to small for my taste. Also i have never driven a semi-auto bike but saw lot of farang with visibly no experience with the bike managing to get trough the city with it anyway. Since a got a little experience on thai road i feel im ready for semi-auto

The reason im looking at the Wave is because i might use it to go to the border next month, if it break on the way i guess it would be alot easier to fix than a automatic scooter

I was also looking at the Honda Airblade but the price i was quoted was almost twice the price of my actual 2500 baht Click. Then there is the yamaha nuovo with the 16 inch wheel but i found no rental shop that carry it soo i have no idea of the price

Electronic start is a plus !

If u guys have any suggestion in the 3000 bath month range feel free to share it !

  9. I actually live in emporium resident, its a nice place with lots of young well-off thai and few farang. There is cheap 5000b accommodation but they do have some superior room and even some delux suite i think.

Free "fast" internet (depend of the time of the day) and good aircon, 30,000 baht a month is quite over kill i think

Im quite happy with my 5,500 room (the 500 more is for the separated shower)

  10. Maybe TV should be hosted outside of Thailand, that way the government wont have any control about what is being said here

Im always surprised by the length of the censorship imposed on this site

    TV is hosted in Singapore.

So why do they comply soo much to the thai law ?

And why choose Singapore witch is not really a freedom of speech paradise,

  11. Although it didn't happen in Chiang Mai, I'd like to mention an incident that happened to my family yesterday in a place not too far away.

My wife, son and I had lunch in a food hall and continued on to another location a km or so away to do some shopping then to another few more kms on to do some more shopping, as we were driving home from the 3rd location my wife suddenly cried out, "Where's my gold bracelet?".

I'd bought this bracelet in Bangkok only last Sunday, it was 2 baht weight of 99.6% solid gold, the cost was just under 47,000 baht.

We back-tracked to the various locations, of course I knew thought we'd never see the bracelet again, the 3rd and 2nd locations knew nothing and reluctantly my wife went back to the food hall where we'd had lunch fearing disappointment. She asked the people at the counter where we'd bought lunch and a young guy who worked there said, "Yes, we found it under your table." He'd placed it in one of their glass cabinets hoping the owner would return. My overjoyed wife was ecstatic and offered the young guy a substantial reward for his honesty, he tried to refuse the reward but my wife insisted until he accepted it. I must admit I breathed a sigh of relief also,

Incidents like this are sadly, a bit of a rarity these days but it's great when it does happen. It restores one's faith in the human race.

Back in Montreal, Canada, or pretty much anywhere in the west there is no way u would have got it back believe me

Last week i forgot a bag with my notebook in a mcdonald, the employer runned about 400 meter to give it back to me. Gotta luv this place

  12. Just got lost for 4 hour yesterday in Chiang mai just after renting a scooter. It was amazing i saw lot of place and found my hotel by pure luck after night :D

i love driving here, soo easy

  13. thank you very much, this is very helpfull.

by the way im french canadian soo i guess immigration love that (who hate canadian :whistling: )

Is cambodia the best way to get visa or other country like malaysia work too ? Im in chiang mai right now and apparently there is no flight to cambodia, only to malaysia

60 day visa sound good, ill probably do that since leaving every 29 day is not very convenient

  14. I just got a visa on arrival valid for 30 day but im planning to stay for 2 or 3 more month. I heard about visa run but im not sure if i can get many 30 day stamp.

I got there on a one way flight but i booked i cheap flight to cambodia valid 1 week after my arrival since i wanted to make sure the airline will let me board.

Now im asking myself what will be the best way (and cheapest) way to stay legally a little bit more. Could i go to a neighboring country by land and return to Thailand by air ? Or can i apply for a better type of visa

Sorry for my poor english, working on it ;)
