1. The right move is to fire your maid, cleaning lady and gardener every year or so and then hire a new one.

This prevents anyone from getting comfortable at their job. Most of the time the work ethic is starting to slip by the one year point anyway.

There are times when you find a really good employee and you want to accept him/her into your family.

If they stay long enough, this will come back to bite you in the ass.

I have a friend, his live in maid has been with them for 20+ years. She raised his 5 children.

Well guess what? Now she is old and is starting to have health problems and cant work anymore. Guess who is responsible for hospital bills?

He cant fire her now or he would be a real dick. So now he has two maids on the payroll and one doesnt work.

Dont make your employees part of the family unless you plan on being fully responsible for them later on down the line.

This isnt meant to be heartless, its just a bit of advice.

  2. gl with your back problems.

Im sure you spend most of your gym time doing 9 different types of curls.

Getting back to the OP and BlackArtemis, whenever I go to work out at PowerHouse (usually around 1pm) there is hardly anyone there and the squat rack is almost always free. They certainly don't mind you doing deadlifts either.

Yeah there is never anyone in the squat rack. I love it.

One trainer always comes over when Im doing DLs to tell me to wear some gloves but never gives me a hard time about being a little loud on my last set.

  3. OK, let me clue you in. Women may say they don't want you to make a fuss over their birthday, but secretly they do, especially early in a dating relationship. She's trying to show you that she's frugal and isn't high maintenance, but a few low-cost thoughtful actions would really go a long way.

First off -- suggest she go to a hair salon to for a shampoo and style on her special day after you wake from sleeping in. Thai ladies love to have someone else "do" their hair.

Be sure to tell her how nice she looks afterwards, even if you can't tell much difference from the way she looks every day.

Then call one of those aircon metered taxis if you don't have a car. A fairly cheap luxury that will keep her new hair-do looking good and insure that she arrives at lunch looking fresh and cool.

Then go to one of those Sunday buffets at a hotel -- maybe the old, reliable Holiday Inn. Do not under any condition go to someplace that is doing a "traditional English Sunday roast" That concept is totally foreign to Thai women plus those places don't have aircon and the clients are mostly western.

Then bring along a nice gift. Doesn't have to be expensive, just thoughtful. Maybe a pretty new scarf/shaw to wrap around her lovely shoulders because she'll be cold with all that aircon.

Thank you. I copied your post and put it in my calendar a couple days before my girlfriends birthday.

  4. Noise pollution of any kind I find very annoying. Speaker vans and Harley Davidson motorbikes top my list of serious offenders..

Ill take speaker vans over stupid, loud motorcycles any day of the week.

  5. You can do your deadlifts in the area behind dumbbell rack there is a big space (near the row machine) and no benches. Anyway I move the benches around all the time, no worry.

The place is usually get crowded in the evenings.

Why not? I don't understand it's the place to workout.

Its still kinda small. I think I would have to move a bench or two for 15 minutes.

Also, deadlifts are sometimes a little loud.

Nice. Thats what I needed to hear.

  6. I went to PowerHouse Gym today. Im considering paying the 9k mid-day membership. Its looks pretty clean and it wasnt busy when I went in this afternoon.

Do they care if you do deadlifts? I asked the reception girl if I could do them but she didnt know what I was talking about.

So any PowerHouse members...are you doing your DLs or do you see anyone doing them?

    Thanks

  7. LOL WiFi at the hospital. Go for the treatment. Check your email at home.

What a rubbish reply. Maybe you are a dinosaur and never realised the usefulness of internet in our modern age.

When my son was born at Bumrungrad I really wanted to video skype my parents to show them their first grand child, unfortunately the hospital's wifi internet was too slow so it was just a frustrating ordeal for everyone.

Whatabout in an emergency? Having fast internet would make a huge different to be able to contact people from the hospital.

I, and many many others, would welcome fast internet in hospitals and all public places. Why would you not want it??

  8. >> Can I Sue Global House For Psychological Damage

Only if we can in turn sue you for the psychological damage caused by reading this post.

    >>the Americans use this tactic to torture people in Guantanamo Bay

There is no torture occurring at Guantanamo Bay. There have been allegations of torture, but nothing has been substantiated.

Having to wade thru the drival spewed forth on Thaivisa is more tantamount to torture than loud music could ever be.

    pwnedd!!!

  9. There is a group of farang that play at the municipal studium near Chang Phruak. There is a building on the backside of the stadium that has badminton courts. My gf and I go there to play sometimes. Its indoors, has fans and its 20baht per person. The guy I talked to said they play 2 days a week but I dont remember what days. Maybe someone else knows.

  10. Ive never even noticed the stereo. Maybe you guys are just too old ;)

They make an ok burrito. It is what it is. Mexican food in Thailand.

People who are raving about how good this place is have never eaten real Mexican food. There is no way you could possibly compare Diablos to a real burrito.

  11. I can't believe this flame war. I am acquainted with Mr. Walen's school, but not with him personally. He is an expat farang who runs a successful business at 5 facilities in Thailand. He employs numerous Thai nationals in a professional (and non-degrading) capacity, thus making a positive contribution to the Thai economy and helping some farangs get along better in Thailand via acquired language skills.

So, he's promoting his business. So what? The biz it happened by accident? Why slag the entrepeneur? I don't understand you guys.

i think you might get it backward.

thaivisa members never single any person out to focus in public opinion page like this....

just like in the case of lady ying-luck.... if she remains a private citizen, no one would care to mention which mare or how many she straddled while she was learning whatever.... while in kentucky....

similarly, in mac case.... he willingly, knowingly and deceitfully put himself up on thaivisa thread.... claiming whatever he wishes to claim....

at the same time, seemingly, he has been so self-indulged in his own self-importance.... that he most probably forgets that.... on thaivisa, there are loads of much more superior and much much better qualified persons in educational fields.... leisurely reading and laughing along.... all the posts....

in my opinion, mac would have come out alright, had he just admitted to whatever his facts are.... like.... folks, i only got a b.a. in horseback riding from kentucky.... that would be a sufficient response for most thaivisa members....

but no.... he had to retort to something cute.... about his elementary school and what his mom taught him to answer pointed probing questions.... thus not only discrediting himself but also dragging his long suffering mother into his mud pool as well.... what an ungrateful rotten son he turned out be....

mac still ought to be proud of his own accomplishment, though now with some mounting tarnished image and reputation.... more importantly, he should never have come on thaivisa the way he did.... and expected thaivisa members to swallow his hook and all.... in spite of and despite of everything, i still do wish him well in his personal schooling matters.... :jap:

im sure... that macwalen will..... like.....read your post and ...really take it to heart.

this thread is 3 pages long....with 2100 views....

maybe he knows...like..knows.what he is doing...

maybe you should look into that kentucky horseback riding degree...obviously it will learn your brain marketing real good and make your business really good as well too.

  12.
One of my more frugal buddies used to sit in front of the convenience store near the corner and have a beer and wait for a real stunner to come buy something and follow her back to her bar. Back home he would have been arrested for stalking.
