  1. I intend to obtain a 60 day single emtry tourist visa here in the USA. I have not visited Thailand for over 1 year. I have previously enjoyed a retirement visa but this year will only stay in Thailand for 40 days, then visit Burma for 7 days and return to Thailand for 20 days only.

Question: When I return from Burma will I be granted a 30 day tourist visa when I arrive. I am hoping to avoid paying the additional multiple entry charge of $ 40 on my original 60 day visa. Hope this is clear.

  2. Ladies or Fathers, I need a hotel recommendation near Patong for two American 25 year old nurses who are intent on visiting Phuket , are Asian and Latina and conceivably could be taken as Thai, intelligent but not yet smart, where they can safely be introduced to the good and bad of Thailand. Location should minimize the tuk-tuk usage

problem and hotel should not be guest friendly. 4000 baht max per night

Thanks. We do not need to be informed that coming at peak season is folly, that 4000 baht is exorbitant,

  3. One interpretation that is implied in several of the responses: Containment. The land deal implicates the fewest of the other influential elite that are still active and powerful in the Kingdom. Just a few expendable civil servants. A thorough investigation of the Airport, for example, would result in the implication of members of probably every influential family in the Kingdom as well as more generals than in all of the Pentagon, Russia and the continents of Africa and South America.

  4. My wife & I are returning to Chiang Mai Monday August 27. We need a studio rental at Hillside 4 for the 6 month period September 1 thru February 28.

If you have a unit available, we would appreciate viewing it that week. Please send a contact telephone # and/or email address to me through the forum's message board. We would also consider a reasonably priced larger unit.

  6. In CM, Carrefour (sp?) carries Clausthaler. However, it is very expensive at @ 99 baht a 12 ounce can! In my experience the .5% measurement is relevant to its non-taxability in the US as alcohol, and not as an accurate measurement of the alcohol content. While not recommending it to others like me who are "allergic" to alcohol, I have been drinking NA beer for 13 years and it has never interfered with my sobriety. There is less alcohol in it than in the open container of orange juice in your fridge.

  7. Clausthaler, the German made ( according to the purity laws ) nonalcohol beer, is available at Carrefours in CM. However, at 90 baht a 12 ounce can it may drive your Dad to drink. Clausthaler by law cannot have more than .5% of alcohol but in my experience has even less. The Thais however tax it like it was mead.

  8. The wife & I arrive CM Nov. 22 and have a weeks reservation at the CM Orchid during which we need to find a condo rental for a minimum of the next 4 months. All the write-ups about the International Floral show have made us wonder whether we should iniate contact with an agent to start loking for us, or whether our plan to do our own intensive search on arrival is prudent? Any thoughts?

While we are at it- are there better exchange rates for travelers checks or crisp new $ 100 US?

  9. Good news & Bad news: Usually available at Carrefours but at 89 baht a can is more expensive than high test. Probably the taxing authorities in LOS are unclear on the concept that it may, by definition, contain up to .5% alcohol but it does not.

  10. Moving to Pattaya and I can bring an older laptop with me or I am considering purchasing a desktop in Thailand for email and browsing. No games or elaborate music capabilities required. Any counsel on where a unsophisticated buyer would have some recourse if the contraption is defective? Any advice appreciated.
