  1. when that happened to me, it turned out to be her father, and my GF was in the hospital. I verified it all later too. Reason I verified it was with my first Thai GF, she was with her husband when I called..... trust but verify. Ask her if you think she is real and special. if not, move on there are THOUSANDS of Thai women to choose from. Be patient and be careful to find right one. I did and been with the right one for 7 years now and we're married. But that's after many of not so honest ones...

  2. My wife was stabbed within a quarter inch of her heart by thai ex-husband in front of many people and crawled across the street where finally a security guard at zoo helped. "Doesn't involve me" is the disconnect and way. Its rooted in culture and religeous roots as well from becoming aloof from the world's ways and pain but that can mannifest into the uncaring outward appearance/reality. Remember the comment someone made when it was observed that a Thai hotel owner ran into the tsunami waters in Patong to rescue a farang? "He must haven't paid his bill yet".

  3. With the amount of construction going on in Buriram, you will be lucky to get a good building crew at the moment.

Possibly not even a second rate crew.

The one crew I have used on 3 previous occasions are not available this year to do a small side of house extension !!!!

On a side note ...... about 3 years ago my Wife had her parents house rebuilt. I offered my time and vehicle to help, but was told (nicely) that I was not to be involved at all. When I asked why not Wife said "money up if you go to building merchant" and "money up if building boss knows you are involved"

You may possibly find some local contacts by asking the same question on a Buriram specific website. The one that the Expats use.

Thai Chi you know you are so right. I was just having a chat today with a local biz owner and guy who has built a lot for his own biz here in Buriram and he was saying the same thing. Good news is right now I am not in a hurry and best to wait a year or two while they are building every where or at least until I meet someone who isn't swamped with biz. Good reply thanks a lot

  4. motorcycle operators are no better. Especially in Pattaya. its a Tourist beware place, but I am there often coming there from Buriram for a few days of sun on the beach. I always travel the 6 hours on the road with 500 baht in 100 baht bills so I have 200-300 to "pay off" the cops on the way who pull me over for road checks. Its the cost of doing business. At least they won't shoot me, just delay me. Its the saddest part of thailand.

  5. My Thai wife and I are looking to build a home hopefully starting in the Nov/Dec time frame. Looking for a local builder with good reputation for a modest 2 bed home. Our lot is just south of Muang Buriram area. Small, nice lot in family area. Any recommendations are welcomed and much appreciated. Have seen work of one local builder and is good but want to get other ideas, opinions and have options for price and scheduling.

    Thanks

  6. :whistling: OK let me think, Ministry of Appropriate Tattoo, no, no....Anti-Farang Tattoo Laws allowing local police to fine Farang with religious tattoo's 500 Baht if watching a go go dancer or drinking a beer.

Why not change the official Thai Tourist Ad Catch Phrase to "Come to Thailand - we're more tolerant than Afghanistan". :(

  7. and where was the conversation about Tuk Tuks and jet Skiis? Sewage? In 12 visits to Patong and Phuket in 4 years, I was never accosted by sewage.... and never heard of one tourist being ripped off by sewage. Of course lets worry about image of a film in Germany and not deal with the problem the beach mafia and tuk tuk gangs do to real people daily. Geesh. wonder why I stay away from tourist thailand as much as possible

  8. Got to tell you, I would react the same way, but that's Thailand, don't assume and you did right thing, ask before to make sure they don't surprise you or as I have experienced "old sign, not do anymore" type answers. That IS my favorite barber shop in Patong by the way, and yeah, I prefer to drink across the street at Chicago Bar but, this place does offer great facials, though lately their pedicures vary in quality depending on who you get and seemingly how tired they are. Never use to be that way. Highly recommend the head massages as well.
