Thanks, I would have gone to the wrong location. Check to see what is there now. Maybe they will know.

A friend of mine who lived here in Bangkok some 20 years ago asked if I could find any information on a shop where he once bought brass statues. The shop is gone - he isn't sure when but he would like to contact the old owner. It seems a shot in the dark but I thought I would see if anyone here knew anything.
The name of the shop is Sue's Collection Co. It used to be located at 6 Surawongse Road near Jim Thompson's house.
The name of the owner was Mariesa Kietissuranant.
Any info would be appreciated. Thx.

We are supposed to treat others on this board with respect but that isn't always easy. Trolls everywhere.

"Go to the hospital alone and ask them about the bill,"
I wish I could. I live in Bangkok an the hospital is in Buriram City.
-
All good points. My guess is that my gf was pressured by mom and sister to do this. Esp Mom who can not be refused. Or the bill is legit. That is always a possibility. Getting smaller and smaller as I learn new things. I just left it with her to produce a more detailed bill and if that looked ok, I would pay. If she can't produce it that is the end of it as far as I am concerned. Thx for all the replies.

what do you think then?
Like many things in Thailand we may never know for sure. A scam, a hospital screw-up - but I told her I won't pay till I see the entire bill with details. Even if it is true, I find it hard to believe that they don't express the same shock I do and want to understand why.

The only thing I can imagine is multi CT/pet scans (which are expensive even in government hospitals) and she not authorized to use that hospital under 30 baht plan. Normal government/top private difference is much more 2.x times in my experience (more than 10x at private hospital for me a few years ago).
Ya possibly but we got an estimate from Bumrungrad that was 700,000 and this was about 40% of that- which just seems strange. This was definitely her hospital - she has been going for tests for the past couple months at basically no cost - her husband went for a stroke and op and it was 6,000. So a big difference between 6,000 and 261,000 and I am curious why.

Yes, I would look at it. Please post or if you prefer, send it ot me by PM
I sent it to you. Thanks. I appreciate any clarity on this. If it is legit, I will be happy to pay for it.

I have been with this girl for 9 years and she has never asked me for anything expensive. But I wonder if her family is pressuring her - especially her sister who handled all of this. I sent the bill to a friend who has a Thai gf and asked him to send it on to her. If you would really like to look at it I would be glad to post it.

This is I believe the closest hospital to her. She lives in Buriram. They wanted a private room but could not get it. She was there for five days. The odd thing is her father had a stroke 3 weeks before, went to the same hospital, they had to drill into his brain, was there for five days and the bill came to a few thousand baht. Which is what I was expecting here. I asked my gf and got the I don't know reply. Her sister handled the whole thing. Again I have an itemized bill in Thai which I can't read. Maybe they had to bring in a specialist.

My girlfriend's mother just had an operation at the Buriram Govt hospital. It was for brain cancer. So a serious operation. Had it priced at Bumrungrad for 600,000 but the mother wanted to do it closer to home. Just got the bill. 261,000. Not outrageous compared to a private hospital but it still shocked me. How can a Thai living in Buriram possibly afford that and I thought these govt hospitals were supposed to be near free. Has anyone had any experiences like this? I once paid for a friend to have a baby (not mine) at the govt hospital in Bangkok. Came to 6,000 baht. I have the bill (in Thai) so I don't think it is a rip-off but just really surprised.

I need to apply for my first extension of visa based on retirement. Do I need to make an appointment or can I simply turn up at Chaeng Wattana? The link provided by Oxx gives an option for retirement extension but all the dates are greyed out and say "no information".
I did mine today. Had an appt at 2pm, The person in front of me was finished by 1:45 so I just went in and was done by 2pm. Then of course the 40 minute wait for your passport to come back. I always wonder why that takes so long. One person was handling appointments in #L1 -32. Before that I had to go to L1-27 to have my documents checked to make sure it was in order. There were loads of people waiting who did not have an appt. Get an appt. They even send you a reminder the day before.

Thanks! That worked out fine. Not many slots available right now. Due to Songkran I guess but I got one.

It is that time of the year again to renew my visa extension. I had bookmarked the page to make an appointment which worked out so well last year and of course it was gone. With no forwarding page. Does anyone know if it is still available or has it disappeared into the ether. Thanks.
-
As easy as that. Great. Thanks.

I went in for my for yearly visa retirement renewal today and they asked me for my 90-Day receipt. Had never asked for that before but for the life of me I can't find it. It had come out of my passport and somehow got mislaid. But without it they would not renew my visa. Does any one know what I can do about this? I did it at Bumrungrad so I hope they keep a copy but won't know till tomorrow and if they don't what can I do? Thanks.

At which date does your new extension end?
In case it's an under consideration stamp: When do you have to report back?
Under consideration? I hope not. My new passport has a retirement visa in it with a date of April 21, 2021. She said nothing to me about reporting back.

Hi, back from Immigration. All good! My gf came along with me and when we went into the booth she talked to the IO in Thai. Probably told her I was senile or an idiot - but it went fine after that. Gave her the package of docs for transfer to new passport and docs for application for new One year visa. The only thing I had to do other than look sorry was to write out a reason why I was late. I was only charged from the expiration date of the previous visa to March 26th. So got lucky there. In fact lucky all around. Having to leave the country now and come back would be a disaster. So few countries that you can even go to other than my home country and NYC is about the last place on earth I want to be. It took me about an hour of waiting to see the IO. So I want to thank all the people on this forum and also Immigration. She was great. A huge relief.

Playing the stupid farang will not be difficult. This is 100% my fault. I am sure I did look at the date when I got it and then being the stupid farang I just blanked out. I certainly should have noticed when I had my new passport issued but I think I was just under the false impression that the visa extension would be transferred to my new passport and I have been doing November as my renewal for years and it was just stuck in my head. I will go out tomorrow and see what happens and let everyone know. Thanks for all the replies.

Won't he need to exit Thailand and start over.
That is what I am worried about - not easy to leave and harder to get back.

The Extension was to March 18th. So you think I just need to go to CW, pay the fine and get another year extension the usual way I would do it with a TM 7, photos, bank info etc?
-
So I was finally getting ready to go out to CW to transfer my stamp from my old passport which expired in March to my new passport. And I noticed or had forgotten that when I went in for my Visa Extension in November for one year, they only gave it to March - 5 mos of extension. So I guess I have been here illegally for about a month. Anybody have any idea how much trouble I am in and what I will have to do? I am hoping to just apply for a new visa and start the process all over again or ask for forgiveness because of covid and being forgetful at 66 years old. If I have to leave the country - if that is even possible - I know I won't be able to get back in. So <deleted> with myself.

Visa Agency Recommendations
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
I was hoping someone had had a good experience with a visa agency for me. It turns out that all the appointments are filled before I need to have my retirement visa renewed. Which means I would have to spend hours at Chaeng Wattana for hours like in the old days. I was hoping to avoid that as I have not been feeling great lately. I have the funds in my bank, so that is not an issue. I was just hoping that an agency could take care of going out, doing all the paperwork and getting it stamped. Maybe the multiple visa stamp as well. Thanks.
