  1. some time ago i asked how to say 'month by month' as in - i wish to let a flat month by month. the grateful response was only in thai phonetics w/o an english translation

i was esp confused by the word 'khao' (rice?!?!).

i do not want to find the thread becasue i had asked a few dodgy questions so better if i just ask again -

    how do i say -

do you have a room? (mii hong dai mai khun krap?)

do you have a room i can i rent month by month?

    'deposit'?

'how much per unit of"...electricity or water?' (tao rai noong unit fai/nam krap?)

if you could include the literal translation in english that would be super helpful

    super thank you

  2. you should well know by now of these scams, they are rife in your industry. schools make as much on scamming teachers as they do revenue on students.

you should have packed your bags and left back to china but before - threaten to go to the abbot at the largest temple in the city and the most local temple and lose them some major face, threaten to file a complaint w/ police - then DO FILE! if you dont then all you are is a thief as you do owe something.

if you donthave anything in writing per your rental agreement, despite your 2 'doctorates' you are a moron. would you ever have done that in your home country -NO

  3. ive not seen this zulu character yet but my friend calls the guy on the bike "gary glitter" he has names for all the characters

parrot man, chimney sweep, lord haw haw, the rat, the hat, the mad italian, the neighbor from hel_l ...

the guy in the suit - i dont know how he does it...its SO hot and that transvesite is really scary.

you gotta love pattaya for the vast freakiness :-)

  4. i basically no longer file. my interest income is barely below us6500 and does not warrant. you wont pay taxes if your income is like us9.5k single, shortform - but you have to file (maybe even more 11k?) ...it says it on the irs book first few pages of the 1040ez i think 6.5k

if you have worked whos to know? just do some sort of filing for years youve been away if that makes you feel better -

there is NO statute of limitations on paying taxes -you always will owe. whether it runs out on 'crimes' i dont know

i figure im totally getting over - not paying for bushs' war and the social security ill only marginally collect (why pay in?). medicare will go b4 ss year 2020??? . why bother, why pay?

  5. also bear in mind that there is much that we that live in pattaya dislike and cant change - but accept because that part of the price of living there. theres loads to dislike about chang mai imo and bkk as well.

also, many of us are educated, well traveled and know thailand well but choose a casual/beach lifestyle. we have nothing to prove to anyone with fancy fake brand shirts and watches and tossing around money at nana.

my 'home' has always been near the beach so why would i change this??? while i can get myself around bkk and many of the great cities of the world just fine... the thought of wearing long pants in thailand when i would only wear them to work -or two (coldEST) months a year at home - thats not me. take me away from the beach for a few months and im unsettled. could it be a more quiet/different place like ban sare? sure, but it doesnt have that certain insanity that is pattaya.

if you dont get it, i understand. there is lots to dislike about the place. but it is really quite surreal in every sense of the word. 300k people in a theatre of the absurd. i only wish there was not as much foreigner/thai crime, cleaner beach, less dirty traffic and they would pick up the trash more often

ps: the bar girls are not any hotter in bangkok. i blew thru there on a visa run a week ago and once again throughly confirmed this.

its not for the timid or meek, its for players - much as all you folks think you are all that up in bkk. thermae1 shut its doors years ago and who knows about staroflight2 in patpong but those were bangkoks better years to be sure. it was exciting and extremely dodgy and even if you were only out for a beer and nothing more - it was an adventure. after 8 years of living on-off in pattaya every evening out is an adventure and throughly unpredictable

  6. Judging by the massive response to the original post, this new regulation will effect ALL you postees, that means I will be the only true expat on this forum ............

One should now consider a seperate Tourist and Expatriate forum for clarity !!!!

it separates far more than that friend.

having this visa or that visa does not make you an expatriate. living it (for years on whatever visa you desire) does. it separates guys that have a love and firm desire to live in thailand and asia - and those that have dragged their small minds and their excessive western habits here - basically creating an identical existance to that of thier home country- oh and add the lovely 'thai girlfriend'.

take away all the modern conveniences and especially the ladies and 90% of the 'retirees' would be gone tomorrow. having a retirement visa hardly in and of itself makes you an expat. you 'earn' that 'label' by living it and being out here a LONG time.

  7. it appears to me to be f06l - if you check your carrier code and flight you will have a better indication.

NO, it is most definately stated as SIX MONTHS from date of first entry on the police order, it's caught a few people out.

it is 180 days - ive seen the chart. they shoved it in my face and told me i was two days short....one day if you consider the last date of the visa and twelve hours if i showed up on that date at the same time as i had on the day prior.

it is now the last man standing. if youre clever enough you will survive and if you are not, your stay/s will be limited.

  8. i am the person that tropo has reported about this. he kicked about 4-5 persons back while i was standing there.

I HAD A PROPER TR VISA WHICH DOES NOT REQUIRE AN AIR TICKET TO ENTER THE COUNTRY, THAT IS WHAT WAS BEING RENEWED.

immigration lemming tossed a number of persons apps back - ticket?? 'air' ticket?? he wouldnt even consider the app even though i had special circumstance to be given at least 7 days and out. no way.

he was a very rude and there were a number of ignorant mishaps as well - new building, same arrogant, ignorant employees. someone should really train these flunkies - the concept is to keep people within the law while they are in the country....

as for 'the cost of doing business, are you mad? adding an air ticket to the b2000 baht a month a currently spend there!!

and for the record, 15 years in Asia - overstay before this week in thailand = 3 days. go home every year - never worked or broke any law, until thai immigration forced me to overstay. i could not possibly up and leave or provide a ticket by days end.

IN FACT THE IMMIGRATION AGENT TOLD ME - YOU GO AIRPORT, YOU PAY, YOU OVERSTAY, YOU PAY...

also....when you go for extention and you buy a ticket 30 days out. how do you know they are not goin gto give you 1-2 weeks??????????? now you have also tossed money away on the extention AND a ticket.

smart money says its over. sure you can spend a few mos a year in THE LAND OF SMILES - but any more.... pressing thy luck.

the 60 day tr has always been 1 extend (30) and rumours are 7 days in emergenc.y - I GOT NEITHER AND MY VISA RAN OUT WHILE IN IMMIGRATION.... THAT is an emergency. they exist soley to keep people within the law.

and as for any small thinking person... i paid same price for overst as visa ext (2000)

maybe ill write about my nightmare day b4 at bam laem !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. wow...im so shocked .......... again

    arbitrary and capricious

    corruption

people that go for the O visa are in no better situation than the runners. i simply cherish how much they spend and the hassle and insults they put up with to live in 'paradise' those that think otherwise tis at their own folly.

sirburr - what you say may be correct but does not negate the fact of what thailand is or has become. only confirms they lack of intelligence on the newbies part. or as pt barnam stated - a sucker born every day. thailand is WELL past its sell by date.

  10. calli is right - they run to 2 small casinos. this place is really dire and all the thais return sad, angry and broke. the casinos are pathetic places to lose ones money.

if you go by public transport, dont go to ban laem you take a mini bus to the border (b20 moto from bus sta) runs when full. i forget the thai side but the khmer side is pailin.

    pailin is nothing, border side.

its a slow go and many hops from pattaya. same time as to go to poipet by yellow bus. the return visa rayong takes forever and the bus stops every 50m.

most likely you will have to come up with a little bribe for the khmer. it may not be has rough as koh kong or pp but its really venal.

whisky is a bit more than at bl, not much.

  11. yes, lemongrass - also marigolds - the essence is used in repellent as well. they are not very pretty flowers though.

wow - lucky you. i love to garden. go slow and make a nice one. expect about ten years for it to grow in nicely.

  12. zenith el primero rainbow flyback - nice watch. i was eyeing it recently on timezone.

panerai can be quite handsome but overpriced imo.

never took a liking to brietling. maybe its the french thing also ...pilots watches other than the military style (ie iwc pilots) dont do a thing for me.

someone should start a new thread - swiss automatic watches. they are the only ones that really count, perhaps the grand seiko as well.

  13. yes, i recall some time ago someone posted the stamp and it can from vientiane. thats how i know about it. until this broke i had never heard of a stamp from other cons/emb but assumed all could apply.

the way i interpret this stamp (and thats all it is) is that its 3 times and your finished (at least for each pp). the way i read the stamp is not per trip out to asia or per annum. its three times - period. i would also say that it is indeed a warning (written) "may not issue..." but also the ______ tells a tale as if to say - ok, we are so fed up with your visa running and are giving you notice. it may be 3 or 6 but its a warning youve been flagged. for instance someone that is literally living on the TR+3 may get the warning quickly (the pp shows that ten pages taken are only thai/cambo+malaysia) - but...if you are traveling, my hunch is that you may get more leeway - 5-6?? maybe no stamp.

seems to be more a flag for the person or for the specific consulate than other cons/emb - imo

balls: you may be able to shift around between countries and pick up visas but assuming youve been everywhere and seen everything that is a huge waste of money for sixty days. also many embassies already notoriously tight fisted bastards anyway.

i think they will tighten the three visa runs next....

people need to start maiking other plans, not getcaught w/ their pants down despite this being thailand

  14. i have an omega seamaster 2254.50 (black dial/sword hands) one of the most handsome watches to date. i love automatic watches and respect the precision. its really a marvel. never lost money and only gained from my watch buys. it is the only material possession that i have any 'feeling' for - well, maybe my 20000 song ipod :-)

    fave brands: iwc and un

watch lusts (current): iwc 3717 carbon dial, un maxi marine on braclet. ive always like the look of the iwc 3706 and un big date (blk dial/arab#) - discont. i want to sell my watch and upgrade if i dont go to philippines, if i do then ill dig out the multi timezone gshock i have at home. either way, ill dump the watch i cant have it sitting around in a safe going unworn.

    swiss watches rock!!

a watch says a great deal about a person.

    timezone.com

if anyone needs to know a plce for service pm me (its in bkk in mbk)

  15. For all intents and purposes the farang police do not speak any Thai save for one or two and from what I have gathered, are not fluent. I want to disolve this myth. My hunch is that none can read Thai script not pass Pratom 6 which should be the actual standard for farang police. In fact there are no standards. Fill in the app, get approved by Neils.

I totally agree about the grey slacks, white shirt and name badge - in fact, not calling themselves police would be a huge improvement as they really are not 'police' in any sense of the word - what are they policing and how are they enforcing what they are policing? Helping tourist/s is not police work.

Police given their powers over the general population must be a professional force - period. While I have been bagging on the farangs, it is the local Thais that are very often found to be abusing their powers - which proves the point. I have neven been hassled by any cops in Thailand and often have recd cheery help w/ directions... they are not bad guys.

As I stated all Pattaya need due is enforce its traffic laws, increase revenue and grow the force!

  16. Seems like not a week goes by that PCN does not have some Thai Vol Police apprehended for some abuse.

As for the farang police they service no function what so ever. They cannot detain, arrest, make report, make a complaint and 1 in 20 can speak only a bit of Thai. No police or para/military experience neccessary. All they do is hang out on walking street with sullen looks on their faces. I would argue that they are a danger and lull foreign tourists into a false sense of security as well.

In the end, they have no business arresting Thai nationals for anything. Could you imaging being arrested by a foreign national in your home country?!?!?

Finally - I TOTALLY do not understand the need for volunteer police. All the police need do is:

Go to BKK and get a loan for XXXXXX baht

    Hire 250 'traffic' police

2 impound vehicles and a yard

First 3 months hand out warnings

Come down hard on any/every traffic abuse and triple the current fines thereafter

have the new revenue cover the above plus the thai 'volunteer' police. Now Thailand has a full-on REAL and professional force. This is a city with REAL PROBLEMS. I bet the murder rate = many american cities w/ 10x the population.

The farang police dont count, they are only for show anyway. What sort of person would want to spend their evenings bored witless on walking street or worse yet semi involved in rounding up poor thai nationals for misdemeanors. Something just not right about that.

If the foreign police want to make themselves of service they can make sting operations on all the people (primarily Indian/Bangladeshi) working for Quality Intl that constantly hassle people on 2nd and Beach road. Now THAT would be of service! ...........Speak English??
