All 3 major service providers here offer international roaming on pre-paid SIMs.
IR must be enabled by the customer; this can be done via: IVR, USSD, Web, call center, mobile app, smoke signals.
Validity/expiry is a challenging issue to address as there are many, many, many, many, many schemes; old ones are retained and new ones introduced.
Very generally speaking, for new SIMs validities are capped at 60 days. DTAC offers a method to buy extra validity:
http://www.dtac.co.th/en/prepaid/services/freeday.html
Note the requirements.
And TrueMove H just introduced a rolling, cumulative top=up/validity scheme which allows 30 days per top-up (as little as 10/12 baht, so 120/144 baht yields 306 days), up to a maximum of 365 days.
I don't fully understand the OPs' requirements, especially roaming (is that needed for voice/data in other countries, or just to manage the SIM?).
Visiting two times per year vs. six times per year would yield different recommendations; if the former just buy a new SIM, if the latter keep one SIM and "manage" it.
We also need to know exactly what make and model phone you have.
Assuming the phone supports 850 MHz 3G I would recommend TrueMove H; add 12 top-ups to get the maximum 360 day validity, then subscribe to the unlimited/volume-based mobile data plan that meets your requirements:
http://truemoveh.truecorp.co.th/3g/toppings/iplay/entry/654
Maybe Net 249 (1 GB/7 days) or one of the the other Net 399/599/899 - 30 day packages.
On the roaming, basically the ability to have the sim card to be active while overseas is the only requirement. My previous DTAC/True sim card did not have any signal in Singapore, while my 12call had.
I do have bank account in Thailand which send an otp into thai number (currently my 12call). so ability to retain the number is very important.
So to me as long as the card can do IR and there is "easy way" to top-up, this will be enough as I can always top it up closer to the expiry date to extend its validity.
I also notice DTAC can do top up using foreign CC, which the feature that 12Call does not support anymore. This is a big plus if I really need to top up from out-side Thailand.
I am using Android phone now. Prefer generic plan, which I have few phones.
As for my travel pattern, it cannot be predicted. So we should just assume like 2 travel per year in worst scenario, I have been traveling to BKK every month since 2014, well in fact, I will be in BKK again this weekend after end of March visit. But prior to Jan visit, my last visit to the Kingdom was in August 2013.

AIS hands down. Support Dubai.
Sent from my GT-I9500 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
Dubai? Auto correct?

Roaming on dtac should always activated but it not realy works
Often outside Thailand loose network
And need hours can log in again
Ais have a bad policy after your package running out and you not recognize it, the charge each megabyte
Then credit gone
Since to week the have a automated self renew edge plus package until so long you have money on the care!
It's enough for me 86 thb
I can also watch YouTube video
Better then true is more slowly until speed go down!
This package for me better then a 3G
3 gb package with limit I use up in 5 days
I can do everything I want without thinking of data usage coz unlimited
True slow down your speed to 1 kb when you download more then 10 gigs a month forgot about it!
Thanks for the reply. It seems you are using google translate to do translation?
So I am trying to understand:
1. DTAC can do international roaming without any need to do activation?
2. DTAC while roaming may be bad? I am ok, as long as I can get some connection. I will not use it anyway, more on getting activation code to login to eservice and top up if needed.
3. are you saying DTAC data is also better than True?

Hi,
I have been using 12Call for more than 8 years. The reason why I chose 12Call last time because it can roam in Singapore, hence for me, "frequent" traveler to Bangkok (I travel there from twice to 6 times per years, depending), it will become handy, as I can always add the money which will extend the validity of the card while I am in Singapore if need be.
But recently, after it moves to 3G, I think the 12Call data "package" is rather confusing. There were few times that my balance just run out, because the "package" has expired and it started charging me per KB until I run out of money. I normally activate "unlimited" daily internet for like 50+ bath/day. But this package have only limited maximum speed (which is few M only). After I went to AIS shop I decided to subscribe to 1 week package for 200+, as I would still stay for another 3 days that time. And 1 week package give 1G max speed data, which also run out before my last day in BKK.
Also 12Call website is getting very "messy" and hard to find the info nowsaday.
I went to DTAC website and found their 1 week data is cheaper only B199. I am considering to get one and also some of the information is much easier to find (at least for English version). But few questions I have :
1. For international roaming, how can activate this on DTAC? Is it easy process by pressing some numbers or I have to go to DTAC office? I need a sim card that can roam in Singapore, just in case I am not going to Bangkok when the sim is about to expire.
2. How the validity period works?
I found from the website, if I top up B50/100, it has 30 days validity. Does this start from the day of top up or 30 days from the current validity date (like 12Call)?
Thanks for any info.

I was at BKK last Sunday. There is this massage place called Chang, just next to Singapore Airlines lounge.
The massage starts from THB700 for an hour. Very over priced in my opinion.

A mortgage is nomally noted on the chanote and registered at the land office, where you indeed pay tax to register it
Not sure how it goes regarding a condo, but suspect it will also be at the local land office.
Ok so this is for ALL mortgage right including Thai. So I can do it at the same day of transfer.
Also, I am very confuse with reply I got from my developer, may be English issue:
"Along the process the loan should be done before the transfer date because you have to change the cheque, that got from bank loan, with the title deed (normally customer have to made payment to developer before the ownership transfer is happened).
"I took it that he means that I need to get the check from the bank and pay them in full (my part and bank loan) before the transfer can happen. I am very sure even for Thai loan, the bank will not give out the money first right? My understanding form my banker, I need to remit the non-loan amount to the developer and then on the day of transfer, the bank will cut a cashier order in the morning, and we meet up at Land Office at 1pm. The bank give the check to the developer, and the transfer is done, and they will take the title deed from me.Am I correct? I thought this should be quite normal process. I do not understand why the developer does not understand it. -
Folks,
I need to ask about this "Mortgage Loan Registration". The bank told me that I need to register the mortgage loan to the Ministry of Finance and pay 1% of the mortgage amount and ask me to check witht the developer,
I asked the developer and it seems they have no clue at all about this.
I thought this is not specifically only for foreigner. am I right?
Any idea when I should do it and where?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry guys. When I checked in at the airport. CX offered me a non-stop flight to HKG from SIN. Although, they upgraded me to C class on SIN-BKK flight. It was a tuff choice. But since the non-stop flight was 40 min earlier and both aircraft are old aircraft, I decided to go direct to HKG, rather than go the long way via Bangkok.
So cannot update on the massage place in BKK sorry

Here is the price list.
Yermanee carparkfee.jpg
Monthly is only B600. Can you just buy it for 1 month only?
If yes, if someone will leave the car for 3 days or more, he/she may as well buy monthly pass

There are a couple of Thai traditional massage places inside the airport plane side... They are a bit out of the way at the ends...
May be better to just get a 2 hr massage inside the airport and then grab a drink and a bite to eat

You are referring to the one next to Silver Kris lounge?

New Thai massage place opened up on basement floor. Been meaning to try it. Do try and tell.

This is outside secure area or inside?

Being an Accor member won't get you any discount unless you plan on having lunch over there. Furthermore, discount coupons, for gold member this year that is, may be used at specific places ( e.g spa in hua hin )
Stick to trying the in airport spas and let us know
In any case, it is not a very long wait between boarding
As you mention you have fastrack and fly Eco I presume that either you have bought the passes or it is courtesy of the airline according to your status, in which case you might e allowed access to the lounge
I hold ABTC so I can do Fast Track in BKK. BTW, can you still buy the fast track now adays?
I can use CX lounge, but the lounge is nothing to shout about.
At most I will venture to Novotel Suvarnabhumi if my friend can make it. I am not referring to LeClub but rather Accor AdvantagePlus.
I'll let you guys know if I found something interesting for that 3h55m
-
Humm, kind of risky wouldn't you think? If bags are checked through and you have fast track, there's plenty to do.
In this circumstance, you can be through customs and at airport link station in 20 minutes.
The station is in the basement of Suvarnabhumi airport and you want to take the city line.
Take the airport train to Hua Mak Station and then walk to (or motorbike taxi to) the MaxValu for some food or maybe a massage and facial at Hanako Tokyo. Or go a further bit down Sri Nagaindra to Thaniya Shopping Centre for some shopping or even Seacon Square.
Or take the ARL to Ramkamhaeng station, get off, and take a massage at NASA Vegas apartments.
The op is landing at 15h15 and has to be at the boarding gate at 18h50 ( that is the latest if departing at 19h10 I guess)
Let's say 45 minutes in and out to clear immigration: 16h00
The op gets the train immediately which is 1h back and forth: 17h00 ( not sure about that one as I don't know how long it takes for the road trip to Ha Mak)
Looking and finding the place from the station and back: 30 minutes
Massage: that sets the clock at 18h30
Now fact in that the trains are not waiting for the passengers.....certainly that schedule can be argued but not worth trying.
The result is: the very nice and relaxing massage to be is going to be counterbalanced by the running and the stressful situation of missing the plane.
If one is really in the need of a massage why don't they do it at the airport. More expensive, for sure, but no pressure at all and one can even have a full treatment
Well I should thank tinhead for his/her idea. But I agree with alyx, it is a bit too rush.
Assuming my plane is on time and arrive the gate at 15:15. I may still need another 10-15 min to deplane as I fly economy. 15:30 and I need to start walking to immigration fast lane which can be another 10-15min. wait say 5 min in the line and then walk to train station. I agree the fastest I can reach the train station (if I walk fast enough) is 16:00. As my next flight is 19:10. I need to be back to the airport by 18:30 (assuming I will have to crush the security check and immigration, which will be no issue I think and run to my gate).
So it will leave me only 2.5 hours. I do not think I can even have good massage, considering I have to factorin 45-60 min for travel (well you have to wait for the train to depart). that's left me only with 1 hour.
So really nothing immediately around Suvarnabhumi which I can reach 5-10 min by taxi?
Is there any good and reasonably price massage inside the secure area. I saw some but never really pay attention to it.
-
Just hang around the airport, you don't have time. There's basically nothing in the immediate area surrounding the airport, and if you travel into the city, you'll basically have to go there and turn around to come right back. I suppose it is possible that if you really hussle, you might be able to grab a quick bite in the city, but in my opinion not worth the effort to try.
I know going to city may not be a very viable option. I did that last time when I have 8 hours in between flight (purposely did that). To and from airport may take 1 hour by itself.
That's why I am exploring something nearby.
May be I stay in secure are. If my friend is free may be go out to have some light meal. Is Novotel airport hotel good place to hang around? I am Accor member so I can get some discount.
-
Is there any good massage place nearby BKK? I know there are few in BKK itself but I think they charge more right?
I will be arriving at 1515 and depart again at 1910. Both flights are CX and I should get both Board Pass with me. I can clear the immigation with Fast Track.
Is that any place to go nearby (Lat Krabang area?) or just spend time in airport?
-
Not about the 50 thb... But usually much faster and easier
Also as only live 60 thb cab fair from airport, don't have to put up with the grumbling and complaints from drivers getting "stuck" with such a low fair and then trying to charge higher than meter because it is so low a fair
To be honest, I can understand their un happiness, considering how long of them have to wait in line until their fair sometimes....
All in all, just easier to go upstairs and then everyone is happy ...
Sent from my iPhone using ThaiVisa app
Agree... the waiting time for cabs can be long. Just curious. Can one walk to the car park area which I remember has a connecting bridge and go down and cross the street and get a taxi?
-
They've been constructing these one-way turnstiles for quite a long time. Fully operational now. Challenging to leap unless you 'Fosbury' them. Believe they are ostensibly meant to prevent "taxi back-wash". All that said, still lots of taxis loitering about, and there are semi-permanent/movable barriers adjacent - for safety reasons one hopes - which may be easily traversed.
I have no issues with people using level four to grab a taxi as it keeps the official lines on level 1 clear for me. Also, if going somewhere near the airport, say a fare of less than 100 baht, it is better to use a level 4 taxi rather than stick a short fare on a driver in the official queue. Also a lot of air crew, presumably domiciled here, use level 4 all the time.
Well I have not been to Bangkok since Aug 2013, so when I was there in January 2014, yes I saw that turnstiles. I wonder why they installed it and thinking it is just waste of money.
Now after reading this threat I know....

Thanks for the advice, any suggestions on what area and hotel? Bearing in mind I'll becoming from CM and driving to Hu Hin area after I'd like to avoid central BKK
How about Novotel Ploenchit? Just in front of BTS Ploenchit. Walking distance to the Wittayu area. Price is around 2000-ish (not sure if this will fit your budget). I do believe they should have car park for hotel guest.

Hi all, any idea where this shop is now?
They used to be at Silom Complex 2 floor near the entrance from BTS (just opposite Black Canyon).
They sell quite comfortable leather shoes at good price.
Now after Silom Complex re-open, I cannot find them any more. I have been searching in all Silom Complex and cannot find them. I guess rental must be much more expensive now and drive them away.
Any idea where they are relocating?

DTAC vs AIS 12Call
in Mobile Devices and Apps

I have few phones.... If you need to know..... LG F5, Sony Xperia Z1 and BB Z10, not to mentioned some older version of Xperia Arc. All phones are 3G/4G capables,
I have 12Call Sim card. May be to be exact is the 2100Mhz card which I did the exchange last year.
My current problem with 12Call 3G is their 3G data package is sucks. My trip to Thailand normally only 2-3 days. I used to subscribe to daily unlimited internet package which cost me around B50/day. Nowadays, not only they capped the max speed at something like 100MB for daily package, and also no warning when your package expire and hence it will start charging you per KB/MB and it will make me lost credit.
I notice DTAC 7 days package is only B199 with 1GB max speed, which comparable to 4 days daily package, so even if I travel to BKK for only 3 days it is ok. 12Call charge around B249 I think....
so I am considering to buy DTAC sim card now.....due to cheaper and less hassle internet package.
I am not sure if this will make it clearer....
