Thanks for the heads up Jimbo, however, I'm amazed to hear it. Myself and friends have been experiencing difficulties at Savannahkett. We have both needed to apply for Non B visas for teaching and received a very stiff and unfriendly service from an extremely uptight young woman who refused the applications on grounds of insufficient documents. She has been demanding many more documents than are normally required for the Non B. She insists on seeing original copies of everything and refusing documents that have been signed or stamped incorrectly.

I don't (yet) speak Thai so I had a cover letter/note from my head of department offering assistance and saying that he'd be more than happy to phone them if there were any problems. This 'lady' threw the letter on the floor and refused to read it because it was "impolite" i.e. hand written. What's more, she's not very helpful when asked for a list of precisely what is required.

However, when she turns down the Non B she offers a 2 month TV instead... which considering you've just shown her a contract of work seems strangely lenient. Other applicants on the same day were turned down for TVs and had to accept 15 day passes at the border. So in our experience Savannakhett appeared to be offering single entry TVs to everyone apart from the people who had actually applied for them. All very stressful and expensive.

I didn't post the question but thanks for the responses, very helpful. @ Colabamumbai which consulate did you go to in Laos? The rather stiff lady manning the desks in Savannakhet is demanding reams of stamped, signed and notorised paperwork for the Non B. More paperwork than I have ever heard of being required before. I know of many instances of her turning down Non B applications but issuing the 2 month Tourist Visa as a consolation! She turned me down in this fashion last month and I will now have to reapply on the 16th Nov. Do you think that Vientiane would be more accommodating?

Wow... thanks for taking the time Charlie but you managed to answer none of my questions. The question I need answered the most urgently is the first one about which dates I'm supposed to show flights for. I also asked if it's still possible to obtain a DOUBLE ENTRY Tourist Visa... I specified Vientiane and Kuala Lumpur because not all Embassies and Consulates apply the same rules. These are the best destinations for me. Hi, If I apply for a 2 month Tourist Visa but intend to extend it by 1 month at an Immigration Office, what flight dates should it show?

E.g. if applying on October 30th should my outward flights be booked for December 30th or January 30th?

Also, if go overland to Vientiane to make this application do I need to show a flight INTO Thailand as well as OUT?

I would also like to know if it is still possible to get a double entry visa from Vientiane or Kuala Lumpur?

Any advice gratefully received.

BTS yesterday eve and this morning normal-tomorrow noone can know. THIS is not your major worry-Mochit is threatened much more, nearby Chatuchak market is cleared and closed off. BTS does NOT serve Mochit-bus. Anyway all buses-even if still open, are major rerouted and will take much more time to reach BKK. Rumour has it, they will/may be diverted to SaiThai. why not simple tell from, where for a better or alternate advice?

Thanks for the advice. My bus would normally arrive about 4am and I don't need to be at the airport till 1.30pm... hopefully 9 hours will give me enough time to hire a motorbike taxi or buy a canoe

I believe that they have recently changed the rules so that you are now required to provide proof of bought and paid for airline tickets out of Thailand on the day stated. I am keen to know if this is being enforced and to hear from anyone who obtained a 2 month tourist visa since the rule changes.

I am also keen to know how this affects the option for a one month extension. If you have already bought your flights how can you extend your stay without losing a lot of money on the tickets?

In that case, the tickets out of Thailand can perhaps simply be an Airasia ticket to Malaysia or something, for which you can change the date several times? Rather than buying a return ticket?
