I wonder if, when he got back to his hotel, he started thinking that maybe airport cameras caught him taking the phone (face recognition these days) and so he'd better give it back . . ?

  2. Formula I is a worldwide company that claims to teach students how to design and build a model race car, test it in wind tunnels, then compete with other schools.  They are in several schools already in the Bangkok area.   Their program is supposed to teach students basic principles in science such as speed, computer design, friction (drag), wind tunnels, model building, etc.   I've heard mixed reviews on them so far.  Does anyone here have any first-hand experience with this company?

    Thanks.

Lets see, that's 151 days, which is...

108,609 and a bit visitors per day (notice how they don't count trourists any more...)

4525 and a bit every hour

75 and a half every minute.

Have you ever seen the queues at immigration?

Methinks the figures are a bit rubbery...

I only have anectodal evidence, but just 4 years ago if I saw more than 2 other foreigners at the Mall Bangkapi, that was a lot.  These days I can easily count 15 or more . . . and this mall is a good 15 km north of Khao San Road.

  4. Reality sets in when :

    (1) you realize that, just because someone smiles a lot, doesn't necessarily mean they are happy

    (2) if you get sick (either physically or mentally) you might be a long long ways away from anyone who actually cares about you (and not just your wallet)

    (3) the language barrier stops being "interesting" and starts to make you feel like you're being left out of everything all the time, as if life is constantly passing you by

    (4) you're surrounded by a lot of other ex-pats who all seem the same and have little to offer other than as a drinking buddy

On the other hand, I've been in Thailand around 10 years and think it's still a pretty good place to be as long as you can somehow accept all of the above and learn to deal with it.
