  1. For the 1-2 other people on the island who might be interested... smile.png

I'm posting this from Premier Bar while watching Cincinnati vs Detroit. They have a setup via nfl.com that allows them to show any game, live or replay at anytime (even games dating back to the 2009 season). So it isn't just a rebroadcast of what the local sat channel was showing, and it isn't a downloaded game. The picture quality is fantastic. There is even an option to watch the full 3 hour game, or the condensed whistle-to-whistle version which crams the whole game into about 20 minutes. I know Premier has a NFL schedule, but I bet if you came in some time when they didn't have something else going on and requested a game, they would put it on for you.

    You are welcome!!annoyed.gifannoyed.gif

  2. I have a Non O Multiple entry visa which expires on 04 June 2014.....When do i need to apply for a years extension of stay?...Also,On what date do i need to transfer money to my Thai bank account for seasoning? I have always renewed my "Non O" in the UK every year, but due to the changes in the rules, it would seem safer to get an extension than to risk not being allowed to re-enter the country after my next visit home.....Any help and/or advice would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

  3. Question: If you could retire NOW, and afford to lead a reasonable life here in Thailand, without ever having to work again,(say around £20-25K P.A.).......How many of you who "LOVE MY JOB" would turn it down?....and Continue working?........and.....WHY?......I am genuinely interested to know.WPFflags.gif

  4. Hi All, OP here,

I see from the many replies, that my experience is not a unique one. To show that this was not a "one off", here is another example.........

    TESCO LOTUS.

I see a fridge/freezer i would like to buy.....and i call over an assistant to help.

I would like to buy this one......Can you deliver?

    CANNOT!

    "you can not deliver?"

    CANNOT SELL!

"Why not, ........something wrong with it?" (hoping for a reduction in price if scratched etc.)

NOT HAVE! (standing right next to said fridge)

How can you not have?......Here it is! (pointing to it)

    TWO WEEK!

"Ah.....I see!........."This is the last one you have?"

    YES!

"So why not sell to me now?"

    PEOPLE NEED TO SEE!

"OK,.....If someone see fridge on display, and wants to buy,.....What will you say?" (all together now.................)

    ..............CANNOT!beatdeadhorse.gif

This is normal in most big stores they have one on display like a TV would you want to buy the one that's been on display for a month turned on and off so many times. So if they don't have the model you require in the store room it takes 1 or 2 weeks to get from Bkk. Try Homepro as an example if the one on display is the one you want and none in the store room they will order. Maybe your Thai is not good and you don't understand the cannot and no have after a while you will catch on to what they mean.

If the display item is never for sale, then presumably, when they decide to no longer stock that particular item they return the said item to the manufacturer?......If so, i hope the manufacturer says.."SORRY........CANNOT!"

  6. If you still want laptop battery, order from China direct, they are way cheaper, than

buying in Thailand, they are even cheaper on Ebay UK, UK has 20%+VAT,so ,

they are wanting too much profit here.

Try Alibaba,Aliexpress,DX, Geekbuying,* one of those is sure to have what you

    are looking for.

    regards Worgeordie *google them

Thanks for the info Worgeordie, but none of your suggested suppliers will ship to Thailand......However Ebay look like the way to go!................Thanks anywaywai.gif

  7. Thanks for all the replies guys......It seems that i am not the only one regularly encountering Mr CANNOT, and iam glad to see that the shop in question is fast accquiring a richly deserved reputation for bad service by rude and lazy staff. If my post has deprived them of even one potential customer, then i am happy.smile.png Thanks also for the advice concerning Ebay, which looks like the way to go.clap2.gif

  8. Took my laptop battery to the computer shop opposite Makro in Samui to see if they had one or could order one from Bangkok. I approached the guy at the counter with my carrier bag.

(there was no one else in the shop, and the guy was not busy doing anything)

    "Sawwasdee Krap"

    (Silence)

    "can you help me?"

    (Silence)

"I have a laptop battery" (reaching into carrier bag)

    "NOT HAVE!"

(At this point the battery was still concealed in the bag)

    "Can you....?."

    "CANNOT!"

    "cannot what?"

    "CANNOT!"

"Do you have......?" (producing said battery. He didn't even look at it)

    "CANNOT"

    " I see.....Can you order from Bangkok?"

    "CANNOT ORDER!"

"Are you saying that there is no shop in the whole of Bangkok where you can get a laptop battery?"

    "CANNOT ORDER!"

At this point i left the store.beatdeadhorse.gif ......... If the Thai's are so freaky about not "losing face" then this guy has got it all wrong! I will never set foot in the place again, and it is anyones guess as to how much business this guy is losing for his employer, with his "CANNOT" attitude and his outright hostility. I don't know if this guy is racist or lazy or both, but i have to say that this is not the first encounter with a Mr or Mrs CANNOT in the many years i have lived here.

I would be interested to learn if anyone else has similar encounters?

  9. I would of got up, that elephant seems like a great laugh. You could have fun all day

    HAVE....HAVE.....You would HAVE got up.

Since you started it, you're fair game: GOTTEN ... GOTTEN ... You would have GOTTEN up.

And to anyone who thinks "gotten" is an Americanism ... it's not. The word was used in British English hundreds of years before America and Canada were settled.

OXFORD DICTIONARY: As past participles of get, got and gotten both date back to Middle English. The form gotten is not used in British English but is very common in North American English, though even there it is often regarded as non-standard.beatdeadhorse.gif .......TOUCHE (that's French)
