  1. Sorry, but tired of replying to posters who even don't bother to read the posts and apparently have no principles. More, don't respect people who do have. Again, and for the last time @ yellowtail, @ lucky bones among many others. I have NEVER received any ticket, any letter, any photo, any visit........ Nothing, NADA! How do I suppose to check? They told my wife @ the tax station there was a ticket still outstanding, dated 3 months back somewhere in Chiang Rai. Not even the road, not the time, just the moobaan and date was told. If they give me the slightest proof (or just more info that I could check that I was there and it was indeed my car)  I have made a mistake, I am happy to pay the fine. And I am not driving back to Chiangrai just for that. For me and as for now, I DID NOT BREAK ANY LAW!!!!!! Despite that, I had to pay the fine to get my tax-sticker. No yellowtail, lucky bones among many others, this is NOT CORRECT in my opninion.

  2. OK guy's. Some of you do not understand my language at all. So again, and for the last time; I NEVER GOT ANY TICKET. I NEVER GOT ANY PICTURE. I NEVER GOT ANY LETTER. I NEVER GOT ANYTHING...... How can I suppose to know "what" "where" "when"..... I drive 40.000 km a year by car and about 10.000 km a year by motorbike. They just told us "you were speeding" 3 (or more) months ago, around that area and about that speed. Sorry, we do not have a picture, we cannot give you any proof. But you have to pay to get your tax-sticker. HOW CAN I CHECK AND DEFEND MYSELF???????????

Pls read my post! We've got no picture, no nothing....... Yes, the car is registered @ my official home address and NEVER got anything. To all posters telling me to "simply, not speeding". I am a fast driver but respect the rules and I try to not speeding which is not that simple. F.e. coming from BKK on the 3 different speed lanes.

One more time: NEVER got anything, NADA. So, how can one check???? I don't know where exactly (just the moobaan)- I don't know which speed (only that I apparently was speeding). I will not return to Chiangrai just for this. The fine was 500 Baht. I will put it in my desk in the big file labeled 'TIT".  Yes, it became a very fat one after 20+ years and driving 25.000 + miles a year.

  4. We were on that flight. Well in the air, I noticed the flight information system pointed to Delhi as final destination, Previously it was Bangkok. I spoke to a flight attendant about it, who was immediately joined  by a superior. They asked me to keep quiet about it and to not inform other passengers. However, they explained the situation on the upper deck. We were seating on the lower deck. Within seconds the flight information system got switched of. Passengers were not informed officially about what was developing. Just the regular pre landing routine with worrying faces. Only after landing and while refueling (with all passengers on board!) the captain explained the situation and apologized for the stop and delay. Tree hours late over schedule we arrived at BKK. This situation caused a major negative chain reaction for a lot of passengers.
Due to this disruption, we missed our connection in Bangkok, leaving us unable to reach our pre-booked hotel. Faced with significant problems, we had to secure alternative accommodations. Despite these hardships, Lufthansa offered no compensation. To compound matters, one of our bags was irreparably damaged. Although we received a ticket number and Dolfi1920 contact details, the replacement bags offered by Dolfi1920 did not match our damaged suitcase. Consequently, we opted to purchase a superior replacement, incurring additional costs. Apparently, we felt for the Lufthansa/Dolfi1920 scam and are still waiting for our paid new bags. 2 months later and being 1.000 km away from our initial starting point and where the bags are supposed to be delivered!

  5. Really, not get the point you all defending these offenders. Beaches, swimming in the sea are/were forbidden all over the world by Governments due to the pandemic. For months! Heavy fines everywhere. Would you do it in your own country if strictly forbidden and with police checking????? Patrolling even on horses along the beaches. Would you?????? If no, stop defending these offenders. Simple.

  6. Yes, that billionaire still has a lot of money to ill spent disturbing Thais, unfortunately. I was here (20 years already) and know a lot of (Thai) people as I speak the language. Believe me, the best thing that could happen to the Thais was what has happened. It is NOT democracy when the puja ban orders the village people to vote for someone, or face sanctions..... nor when you get 500-1000 Baht voting for the same man. Officially not allowing foreign election control. It is NOT democracy when you hand over free credit cards to poor people so they can spend money they not have. Result: lose their land to.... the same clan. Remember: I will make you all rich in 6 months..... while stealing Temple land to build a private expensive golf course. Or when your wife is the only allowed bidder for a huge expensive land in the center of BKK. Corruption allover from the beginning, when he was just a police officer in Chiang Mai and could deliver all (old but expensive) computers to the police with the help of his heavenly sponsored ministers, until the sale of his telecom empire that was setup in the same way as the computers story. Of course without paying any taxes on this sale. Since he requested to visit the games and could leave with planes full of undeclared merchandise he, of course never returned, to defend himself (sic). Just his lawyer got caught in court with a bag full of cash to hand over to........ Sister took over in the same way with a rice program costing the Thais billions, making some close friends disgusting rich... etc etc..... Shame he can still throw money around to convince some not so clever people (probably the same he would make rich in 6 months haha) to "move their ass" for him. Disgusting also to learn that even foreigners (not knowing / interesting to know the full story) shouting loud to walk the same dirty path.

  7. I found it a very good deal with Joy @ Chiangmai Riverside Condo for 11.000 Baht a month / 3 months. A modern, nice and good quality 46 sqm studio fully equipped. Also kitchen fully equipped. I liked the most the included high speed internet with private router and all True Vision channels. A package worth 3.000 baht. Sadly moving out of CM next month.

  8. to Spoonman and Tatoo,

To both of you II have nothing to say anymore. What you both bringing up speaks for itself.

    Oh wait, maybe this:

Drifting away of a sad reality by pinpointing to some inferior findings is not what one would call a "fine" behavior

I think you both are first class hypocrites. If there would have been 1 victim or 2 or 20... would your reaction have been the same?

I showed my wife your comments. Her reaction: "poor guys".

    Next, comments on my English?

  9. 22 replies and nobody's noticed the OP was driving the wrong way down the road?

    And on a lawnmower?

This place is a troll's paradise.

With all my respects taotoo but I worked about half an hour to get a decent map of the near miss situation. Software I don't know and I could not find a motorbike that's why I used a lawnmower.

I was clearly riding the good side of the road which is left. To another poster; when I am riding at 90 kmh and someone speeds next to me I know he is going much faster that I am.

You can joke and do what you want but I have witnessed a 1 meter disastrous near miss that could have costed easilyt 20 lives due to the stupidity and macho attitude of 2 crazy drivers. I still see it in front of me and it will stay in my mind for a very long time.

I would like to say some more things to you taotoo but it is better not to do that.

    Sometimes enough is enough.

I have that feeling driving around in Chiang Mai these days. Yesterday, Monday March 31st, I witnessed a “near miss” again. This time however, it is so explicit I do not want to keep it for myself. Amazing and scaring.

My wife and I headed back from Maerim to the city at around 08.00 pm. We’re on the motorbike approaching the intersection 1001 / 121. I feel and I see in my mirror a car speeding very fast behind us. I tell my wife “another crazy man”. He passes us about 50 m in front of the green traffic lights at a speed of at least 120kmh. This is car A. I am going 80. The very same moment a pickup ignores the red traffic lights coming from the left (East). He passes all cars waiting on his left for the red traffic lights and speeds up the crossing at least at 100kmh. This is car B.

Both cars now in the middle of the crossing at unreasonable speeds. Car A misses car B in the back by no more than 1 meter or maybe a hundredth of a second. A hit would have been disastrous resulting in many dead passengers in both cars A and B but also among the innocent people waiting in front of the red traffic light coming from Chiang Mai. Both cars A and B would have smashed into those waiting cars with a tremendous power.

I stopped on the other side of the crossing and it took me a few minutes to get over it. I will remember this flash the rest of my life.

This afternoon I saw a car overturned coming from Mae On. A few days ago and on the same road another car drove into the water 20 meters away from the road. Every single day I see the results (and I have many pictures) of bad driving I would never see in western countries.

What is going on with Thailand and the people? Their attitude starts making me sick; if you tell them about their mistakes, they ready to kill you.

  11. I do not want to get involved in this but it is like I am been pushed into it.

Below a letter forwarded to me and in line with the OP's post. The letter was mailed to all committee members and to the manager.

    "Message from Mr. M, co-owner units ... / ...

To the members of the Committee and the Manager of Riverside Condominium, Chiang Mai

    Dear Committee members,

I have been informed that an EGM is scheduled on November 11th, 2012, and that the question of the fitness room will again be discussed.

I remember that the last time this issue was at the agenda of an EGM (on December 2011), a large majority of co-owners did not approve the project of purchasing or hiring the rooms proposed for the fitness room. It was clear that some others expenses were, for many co-owners, more urgent and that the priority was for others projects, (for example: covering of the motor-cycle parking, problem of the pigeons, making better the equipment of the swimming pool, painting of the building…)

I am surprised that the question of the fitness comes back on the table before all these projects (some of them have already been approved by previous General Meetings), are realized.

In this context, I would like to point out that the EGM of November 11th,2012, must respect rigorously some modalities: members of the Committee cannot hold proxies; the maximum number of proxies is 3 per present co-owner; when the meeting will begin, the list of present co-owners as well as the list of officially valid proxies should be clearly announced and written on a board, or distributed to all the participants, in order to know exactly if the necessary quorums are reached or not; the persons (and proxies) coming or leaving during the meeting should be precisely registered, as quorum conditions may change;…

I think that you can understand that for a such important topic, aiming to change once more the priorities and the decisions taken in previous General Meetings, it is absolutely necessary that transparency and total respect of internal regulation of our Condo are respected.

    Best regards,

    M"

Poor "M" will of course never get a reply just as I never got an answer from the committee or the manager to my mails to them.

OP's question was: what can be done?

  12. Big problems again?

I am due to arrive in Chiang Mai in a weeks time and have been looking at Riverside as a place to rent and base myself.

With these issues does this mean that the place could be getting run down??

I really do not want to go to another place that has issues at managment levels where the day to day running could be imapcted

Will go and see the building for sure but have other rental condo's at other places to choose from

    Hi Phil,

No problems at all for you. You will have a good time.

The problems are apparently manager/committee versus owners about many issues but mainly the gym.

As so many, I am against it as well. Too costly for the owners to please a few. Manager/committee keeps on pushing for 1 year +.

  13. Stigvinck quote : I would be quite p***sed off.

And I am p***sed off as I have a condo for sale there we still refurbishing.

However, definitely something going on. Last days I received two mails from people tired of the situation and in the "corridors" also not happy talking.

Hope someone (or group) can point to the right direction quickly.

  14. Not sure of the intersection your talking about, but I know by Airport Plaza they have been doing it for almost a year.

When I talked to the officer, he said before they could get 1 or 2 per stop light, With the camera they can get 12 - 15. I aways wear mine, and know some of the same people stop at that light daily, but the time they get around to mailing the tickets there may be a dozen or more of them for some people.

What makes me happy is this way the funds go to the Government and not in someones pocket for lunch ( or anything else they may want) money

    Dear Jeffrey,

My friend, in Thailand 50 % of the amount of the tickets are returned to the issuer; the policeman.

I will start putting my helmet on when the policeman who is pulling me over wears one.

I too take photo's and I have a nice collection of it: policemen not wearing helmets on the way to extort money from others.

  15. Good morning,

Just got back from another country and made a huge mistake by not having a Re-Entry permit. My (still 8 months to go) Retirement Visa was canceled and I now have a Tourist only. They will give me a new Visa if I proof 800.000 which I not have right now. My money is blocked until New Year. Is there a good soul who can help? I need 500.000 for 2/3 days only as, in this case, there is no need to have it for 3 months in advance.

Of course I can give some guarantee by a deed and I am ready to pay a fair fee.

    Thanks so much.
