could we have an update from someone in the know on his condition and progress?
how did the fund raising evening go at the Hilton?
Is he out of intensive care yet? It will be a lot cheaper for his medical care when he is.
Get better soon Adam and out of that very expensive hospital, I really feel for you and your family, I have been in the same situation recently and know how awful it is.

good on you Mrs. Raro!

I'm curious why this story is in the Chaingrai Times. What's the connection?
And the hospital charges 2,000 GBP per day!!! That's nearly 100,000 Baht. Even PBH doesn't charge that much!!!
Oh yes they do Mobi, that is exactly the cost of a bed in the ICU at PBH, believe me we know and had to pay this last year when unfortunately my husband ended up there.
In fact it probably is PBH.
100,000 THB per day is just the cost of the bed in the ICU at PBH this does not include the cost of any medication.

I am sorry to say that there is very little chance that you will get anything back, I would forget about it and move on.

we were shocked to see this thread and we have looked more in to how we can help.
He does have adult sons in Pattaya and they are actually helping as best they can, they have bought him a special bed and mattress already.
He does have family and people who care about him.
We are now seeing if we can organize some extra nursing care.
Sorry I don't mean to be rude, but who are "We", are you a welfare organisation, charity, friends or just genuine honest people? I applaud what you have done and are trying to do, I am sure quite a few people would be interested to know if there is an "Organisation" in Pattaya who can help in such situations. Also if you are an organisation is there is anyway people can assist you in your good deeds?
Best Wishes
RabC
Thank you RabC
No we are not an organization just friends of the family and honest people who will try and help if we can.

Took my husband (who is Dutch) to the A&E department last night after an accident at home.
We do live in Sattahip and this is the nearest hospital.
We are both obviously Farang but he was treated well and with a good helpful attitude in A&E and admitted to a private room which costs 2,700 THB per night.
It does have a clear sign at the registration desk in A&E that foreigners will be charged 50% more for medical services.
But as my husband was admitted to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya last year (after a motor bike accident) and I know what the prices are there, this hospital is great and a fraction of the price.
The room at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya is 20,000 THB per night and I can tell you from first hand experience the difference is not that much between the rooms and the nursing care.
The room at Q, Sirikit maybe older and less salubrious but it certainly has everything and it is clean and comfortable.
I have to say that the charges at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital are extortionate and if you do not have very good health insurance do not think about going there, they will clean you out of every penny you have and more (we are still paying a year later).
Even at 50% more than they charge the Thais it is a fraction of the cost of Bangkok Pattaya Hospital and worth going too.
The staff and the doctors have been great so far and try very hard to speak English, they are courteous and pleasant, we certainly have not seen any signs of not being welcome, so perhaps things have changed now they charge more for Farangs.

Hi,
I need to do a visa run in the next week and need to know where to go?
Can anyone give me advice on who to use please?
Thanks in advance
-
OK -well I am sure there will be trains to Chiang Mai too!
-
I really would suggest the over-night train.
Had a great visa extension trip to Vientiane a few months ago.
went on the over-night train from BKK to Laos border (booked ticket at train station) there are taxis there that get you through immigration and over the border to Vientiane for very little money.
It takes less than an hour to get from the train station to Vientiane.
did my business at the embassy and went back the same way. Taxis to border, through immigration, taxis to train station (10 mins).
Really easy, great train ride with sleeper, nice simple meal on the train, went to sleep and woke-up back in BKK.
Would recommend it to anyone.

If you are a fish and chips lover you have to try the new 'Lakeside Chippy' on lake Mabprachan.
I know it is a bit of a drive out of town but it is well worth the effort - the fish and chips are fantastic.

My boy turned 14 years old two weeks ago, we did not expect a big problem with this as we have been living in Thailand as a family for 6 years now.
My husband is on a retirement visa and I am on a non-immigrant B visa and we thought as long as he had a valid visa he would be able to hook on to one of our visas - WRONG.
I went to Penang with him so that he had a valid tourist visa but when we have been to immigration this is not good enough and now they want him to fly out and get a 3 month non- immigrant O visa. We have been everywhere to try and resolve this but we get the same answer so it must be so.
my question is where is the best and cheap place to get this non-immigrant O visa he now needs?
He does not go to school here so and ED visa is not possible.

I fully agree.
I sold my bike after a motorbike accident and bought a push bike.
Any advice what to do about those Soi dogs?

I would wait until after he gets the September stamp and then get a visa entry for at least the oldest and extension. Immigration tends to recommend the easy way as no fine is involved but for the oldest it is getting close. They should provide extensions for both if you want to do so.
Thank you I will, I would prefer to have valid visas for both.
-
They need a non immigrant O visa entry and then extend under section 2.20 of immigration document 777/2551 and there is no financial requirement (as with school). As long as father has the retirement extension of stay stamp they can obtain the non immigrant visa and extend on that basis (if living with him, not married and under age 20 as stated earlier).
OK clear, so as neither of them have a valid visa currently and my husbands visa is not due for renewal until September what is the best course of action please?
-
Thank you lopburi3, I did qualify as his wife and had a retirement visa also until recently but the children did not last time around.
I would like to get this sorted as my son is 14 this year and I would like them both to have valid visas.
If your husband has a retirement extension of stay from Immigration (section 2.22) using 800k in Thai bank account/proof of pension 65k or combination his children qualify for one year matching extensions of stay if living with him and under 20 years of age and not married (section 2.20). Only up to age 14 are overstay fines not charged in my understanding (not 16). You would also qualify as his wife.

Hello,
My husband and I have been living in Thailand for a number of years now, I am British and my husband is Dutch and we have 2 children aged 13 and 11. The oldest child has a British passport the youngest a Dutch passport.
My husband has a retirement visa.
I have recently been back to the UK and got a non-immigrant B 12 months multi entry visa as I have been offered a job and they are applying for a work permit for me via the company.
The problem I have is our 2 children s visas.
Last year we could not get valid visas for them because they are not registered at a school in Thailand. They both go to a registered school in the UK via the internet, because of this they can not get education visas as they are not being educated in Thailand.
Because they are both under 16 the immigration office assured me that they were ok to stay as long as we had valid visas.
The company I am working for said that I can have the 2 children on my visa but I am not sure how to do this?
Do they have to have valid visas first?
Thank you in advance for any advise.

good news Adam is back in the UK in Leeds General Infirmary.
quote from support of Adam Pickles facebook page -
"Hi everyone! Great news! The flight went really well and Adam is back on English turf! I went to meet Andrew and Adele at the airport who were exhausted but absolutely delighted to be back! Even saw the man himself briefly before the ambulance took him to the LGI! They had sedated him a little for the journey but the medical team were amazing and are really pleased with how the trip went. He's gonna now get settled into being back in Leeds! What a relief :-) smiles all round xxxxxxxx"
I don't suppose we will ever know what really happened here but I hope he gets better soon.
Good luck to him and his family after such a terrible ordeal.
