  1. Yes that concept of reducing the visa requirements goes to show that to slow down visitor arrivals and length of stay by Visa restrictions has a significant impact on the in-country spend by greater numbers of tourists arriving and staying longer.

The visa issue limits what I do and where I go and for how long.. When we visit and stay in Malaysia their more liberal policy simply means we stay longer more often although our preference is really Thai first and Vietnam second..

  2. There is a good male "doctor" just down Wua Lai on the right just down from the bus start point.

Mr Lek from the Indian restaurant and bike hire on the left as you head past the intersection towards Smith Residences knows him by name and the exact location.

He fixed my frozen shoulder which had been an issue for years.

He is the best I have been to in all of Thailand but let me assure you that you don't have a Thai massage there for pleasure.

Best avoid a "doctor"? that you need to find by asking "Mr. Lek" from the Indian restaurant! One of the shadiest recommendations I've ever heard on here.

Comment accepted but the guy there provided exactly the right therapy for a frozen shoulder and we all should know how hard they are to treat.

My instructions on how to get there were just because I stayed in Smith Residences and often ate at the Indian restaurant.

    Upto U....

  3. You would be comfortable with a high room in View Talay 2A in Jomtien close to all transport and the beach.

There are fresh food markets nearby and big market on the baht bus route near Tesco.

A great bigggg pool and lots of extras on site, including shops and restaurants on the ground floor.

We have rented there and always enjoyed the relaxed no bar girls environment..

Cheers Bunter... Pm me if you need details.

  5. May I ask where the condo is located.

You may be surprised and get an offer to rent by an older family who would take care of everything and also give a return on your investment.

Of course there is always the possibility that you could be let down. But an arrangement where rent money previously paid is refunded provided all the boxes are ticked.

If you get an agent to do this they will charge a fee anyway so it's about getting a process that works best for you.

  6. No don't do that... Your credits belong to that user and absolutely makes no difference to the connection whatsoever.

I would uninstall Skype run ccleaner and use that program to uninstall.. Run ccleaner then reboot and reinstall Skype it will take all the default settings. That's the best long term issue if the test call is unsatisfactory.

If you have a windows pc then Tools, Options, Audio Settings - half way down the page there is an option to make a free test call..

    Good luck..

  7. Sounds probable that you may have the wrong mic selected.

If you can do the test call to the Skype server's in England you will hear the voice quality from your mic. Do the same from a smart phone or a friends notebook at your place. That way you can check the internet capabilities from your usual access point.

Sometimes the quick and easy Skype upgrades don't work.. Just download Skype to your pc and do an install. Up to you whether to uninstall the old version. Should not be necessary however.

Please let us know how you get on.

  8. Very simple using video chat on Skype uses lots of bandwidth. May I suggest after introductory vision and hello's both parties should turn the video function OFF.

This is only necessary when your connection is subject to speed issues.

Another trick if you make a call and you get a poor connection tell the other party you will call back. Another connection a minute later will be routed differently and often will be substantially better.

Skype is fantastic for travellers and those living away from family and loved ones.

  9. BTW my wife and I live Gold Coast area as well. Are you in Thailand atm?

We would be interested for ourselves.

  10. Of course those who use Dropbox have access to all the files stored and accessed from there. For those unfamiliar the files are held on each phone or tablet once synced there and then next time you get on line they are synced once again.

Those dubious about rooting don't necessarily need to move away from standard roms, in my case I can download the latest Samsung rom for my rooted Note 2 from Sammobile and get version 4.4.2 or CyanogenMod CM11 M9 gives you version 4.4.4 which has does more and is faster by about 20 % testing with AnTuTu X.

There are often inadequacies with various roms but I have settled on Cyanogen after Skype did not work on Liquid Smooth and the Runtastic pedometer was not working on Phantom rom. But each user has different needs and each should decide what best suits their needs, however speed is not everything and overall there are less issues with the stock roms but the ability to use features that need a rooted phone to function at all.

  11. The most perfect process to root or unroot your mobile device is KINGO. Do your research and make sure you do it on a model that has been assessed. I note that some try it and they advise that it works on model XYZ.

Leave a donation if it helps you, I did as they are worth it and need to be encouraged to continue. I have no association but I had a half rooted phone. Their solution worked perfectly. You won't appreciate how great their software is unless you have travelled down the wrong road often.

  12. We used Ocean Dental Center in Jomtien.. Its quite near the Immigration on Soi 5 or opposite Kiss and the Rompho Markets.

We received quality care on our first visit and the dentist (owner) was recommended to us by someone who had poor service elsewhere.

  13. What can happen in cases such as yours is you receive spam that was not actually from Thai Visa and you take action to block it when in fact the scammer had used the Thai Visa address to mask their own.

I made a similar mistake in blocking certain spam emails where in fact my name sat visually on top of theirs.

After I blocked those emails I ended up getting no emails as I had in fact blocked emails being sent to me.

What I do now is just delete spam emails that are from my name, it's often a good idea to hover over the From address to see who the sender really is.

The solution is to clear all the blocks you have added and start again to carefully re-build your spam and blocked list. Hope that makes sense.

  14. The taxi and tuk tuk issues in Phuket is the main reason we have chosen to holiday elsewhere.

I am very pleased when I leave having avoided the scams.

Shuttle bus service from the airport and local taxi with fair price negotiate to get back to the airport. The rest of the time we use the local buses avoiding the local scams.

Pattaya on the other hand has a great baht bus service and a similar system would work on the entire west coast of Phuket.

I understand it was tried from Karon to Patong but the guy that started the service had some "bad luck".

  15. Great to see another living his dream.

Some of us have circumstances that mean we are just visitors to Thailand.

We have now been basing in Jomtien more often as you can get good access to everything while avoiding the mad rush and the other complexities of Pattaya - in the main town area or Patong in sometimes going to Phuket.

Phuket still gets a drop-in when we need dental work however as the dentist there gives 5 year warranty on crowns and other work as well.

This year we will rent again in View Talay 2A for two months - close to the main road so baht bus at your door for Pattaya and good facilities/shops in house and a great pool that enjoys good shade periods during, a swim in the pool and a good feed in house always appeals to us.

Up the road a little the baht bus also runs to Tesco and the beach, markets and other bars are within easy walking distance.

If you haven’t looked there it is worth a look.

  16. Good choice of smart phone.
