  1. I ended up taking my macaw to the Pet4 Polyclinic, that's right, my parrot went to the Polyclinic, they a room that is specifically devoted for treating exotic pets, the diagnosis from the treating vet was a bacterial infection in his intestine, or intestinitis, we got in very quickly, some of the staff spoke English and the customer service was excellent.

  2. My wife had surgery for pancreatic cancer 17 years ago, her health has been declining for the last few years and I worry about the future, and she is currently in hospital with a possible bacterial infection in her bowel. This morning I went to get my visa extension stamp, and was told it hasn't arrived yet. While I was there I asked the Immigration officer what would happen to my visa if my wife passed away, she said I would have three options, 1. I could apply for a Non-O multi stay visa which would require me to go out and return every ninety days, 2. Apply for a tourist visa which would give me sixty days with thirty day extensions for one year, and 3. Apply for a retirement visa once I reach fifty years of age. I have seen another thread where the op stated that once your spouse dies you have to revert to a tourist visa, this concerned me, so I sort clarification. I hope this information is helpful.

  3. My macaw has swallowed something that has had him passing blood and not eating properly for a few days, we had xrays done yesterday that showed something in his stomach. We are on the way to BKK today to go to the hospital in Sukhumvit soi 55, anyone with any experience with this hospital?

  4. This is a zone that many of we Europeans fly through on our way to Asia - there but for the grace of ----

I only hope that those that died were gone in an instant - tragic.

<deleted>...why would any airline fly through a known war zone. It would seem quite retarded to do so & a no brainer to stay well clear of it. This could be the end of the company "Malaysian Airlines".

According to the news here in Australia, the aviation exclusion zone went up to 30,000ft, the aircraft was flying at 33,000ft, the radar on the missile launcher would have shown that, and if the launcher had an IFF decoder on it, it would have identified the aircraft as civilian.

  5. When I had dengue the early stages didn't feel like anything more than a mild cold or hayfever, but when the fever hit it did so very quickly and viciously, when I sat down for dinner I felt a little unwell and didn't really feel like eating, 15 minutes later I had a fever and was unsteady on my feet, a bit over an hour later I was being admitted to hospital with a temp of over 40c, hospital was my home for two weeks.

I forgot to add one other symptom I experienced, a constant headache that lasted for more than a week, it wasn't intense, just constant. I have a neck injury that causes occasional long term headaches, so I didn't really take too much notice, until the dengue hit, then the penny dropped.

  7. I am paying 750 baht for one inject able lantus Solostar pen here in Korat. They come in a box of 5.

    Lefty

That is one of the two my wife is learning to use during her stay in hospital, the hospital is also teaching her to use the ActRapid injector, our GP gave a prescription for the NovaRapid, the two have different needles, but that's not insurmountable.

  8. I think you probably mean "Lantus", which is available in Thailand.

NovoRapid Penfill/NovoRapid FlexPen is also available.

Both are Thai FDA category D (Dangerous Drugs), so will only be available at top pharmacies and hospital pharmacies. They are not prescription only, though, which is good news.

Thank you, it's good to know we can get it when we return.

  9. My wife and I are currently visiting my parents in Australia. My wife has had type 2 diabetes which has been managed by tablets, up till now, she has just been told she needs to use insulin from now on due to what is left of her pancreas ceasing to function. She has been prescribed two types of insulin, lantis and novorapid, both are administered by way of injector pens, are both of these insulin products available in Thailand?

    Thanks.

    Tom.

  13. We all had a good time on the island, the only let down for my wife's family was the lack of sunshine until the day we left. My wife and I stayed at the Bed and Breakfast Service Guesthouse which doesn't have a kitchen and so doesn't serve breakfast, but it is centrally located near Tresco, Makro and Big C, across the road from the entrance to the International Hospital, there is also a carwash a couple of doors down that doesn't charge any more than 350 Baht, the owner says he likes to help the poor people.
