  1. Hi,

I've experienced the occasional downtime with several mobile internet providers, usually no biggie and resolves itself after a couple of hours.

Starting about 2 days or so, it has gotten way worse though.

First of all I have 3 different 3G devices so a hardware error can be ruled out. Everything has worked fine with the exact same setup for months and I didn't change any variable.

I can not get any 3G signal with my (2, both with active data plans) i-Kool (TOT reseller) sim cards at all. The phone shows "connected to i-Kool" but no 3G, H+ or even E sign show up, no connection to the internet is made. I didn't change the APN or anything related, it just happened. What is also a bit strange is that when I have it search for a network operator manually, i-Kool doesn't show up in the list, I can only choose "ToT 3G"

Ok, so I thought whatever, maybe i-Kool or even TOT lost a tower or something (On Nut area here), luckily there are loads of other providers to choose from.

I topped up my Truemove-H prepaid card which has been working flawlessly before (data plan is twice as expensive and half as fast as i-Kool for me though) and it's also having huge problems.

I can connect to the internet with 3G/H+ without problems at first, but after 10 minutes or so it will go down to edge for about 30 seconds, before it goes to R (roaming) and tells me it has lost the connection to the True network.

Whenever I manually search for network operators True-H shows up, I choose it and I'm back online again, only for the same thing to happen 10-15 minutes later.

This is driving me a bit crazy to be honest. I'm thinking about topping up either my AIS or DTAC card, but I really don't want to unless I have to, I already have 3 "full" 30 days data plans now that I can't use, don't want to add a 4th (and AIS, DTAC are way slower for me)

So my question is, is anyone experiencing similar stuff with either i-Kool (TOT) or True-H in the last couple of days?

Thank you for any help or answers!

  2. Thanks for the tips.

When sending *900# I get the following sms:

    จากโปรโมชั่นคุณมี อินเตอร์เนตโบนัส คงเหลือ 60.43 MBใช้งานได้ 5.00 GBต่อรอบบิล หลังจากนั้นสามารถใช้ ความเร็วสูงสุด 384Kbps ได้ไม่จำกัด ปัจจุบันมียอดใช้ไปแล้ว 4.35 GB

    Which Google translates to:

Of promotion you have. The bonus with the remaining 60.43 MB 5.00 GB used per billing cycle it can be used. Maximum speed of 384Kbps is not currently in use to 4.35 GB.

So I take it to mean I have about 650 mb left?

When I call the number posted above and press 4 the voice tells me "you do not have balance" though.

Speedtest showed a dl speed of 4.6mbps so I think I'm definitely still not throttled to 384Kbps.

The 4.35 GB number goes up slowly so I think I got it right..

I hope I can just buy a new package once it reaches 5gb and don't have to wait on 384Kbps until the full month is over..

Will keep you guys postednif it works.

  3. Hi,

I have the prepaid card and bought the 5gb plan a couple of weeks ago.

Is there any way to check how much data I have left with an SMS or calling code?

Only found a code to check the thb balance which isn't what I m looking for.

Also, on truemove prepaid, when I ran out of data I had to cancel my current package first before I could activate a new one, is this still valid on H and how would go about it?

    Thanks for any help!

  4. thanks for the answer!

    TOT is back online btw.

how do I set up "WCDMA only"?

I'm using a samsung galaxy ace for what it's worth and didn't find any option saying something like that under settings - wireless and networks

but then again I do get a 3g signal here now (on nut area) so maybe it's done automatically - will see if it drops back to edge over the day

  5. Hello,

I have a TOT netsim card and I cant get any data from the internet for about 2 hours now.

the cellphone shows the "3g" or even "H" symbol for 3g or HSDPA and pretends it it connected but there is no data being recieved or sent.

is this just a regular downtime on the side of TOT or is this my phone's fault?

normally when TOT goes down (which I understand happens and don't worry about much) is the 3g/H symbol on a phone still on during this period?

    thanks in advance!

  6. Thank you all for many helpful responses!

I now have a related question, don't want to open a separate thread for it: a condo is when a building sells individual apartments which then get rented out by the owners.

If a building is mostly selling condos but also rents out some units itself, are those units considered condos or apartments (in context of likely electricity rates etc)?

  7. Hello.

I'm looking into renting in BKK, probably in the On Nut area - already looked at some objects and they vary in their electricity / water per unit pricing a lot. (electricity from 4/u to 8/u)

What is a reasonable cost here and would I have a chance trying to negotiate the price down (as I think I've read the price should be the same for all owners and they just add what they feel they can)?

also can anyone tell me how many units 2 persons with moderate airconditioning habits, 2 laptops and not much cooking would probably use a month?

    many thanks in advance!

  8. Hello,

I will arrive in BKK wednesday evening with my gf, have booked a hotel for one week and planned to look/find an appartment by then.

Naturally I have a lot of questions regarding the flood since there are so many contradicting posts/articles..

    - my hotel is in Khlong Toei ("hope land executive residence"), I asked them and they told me they are fine/don't expect any trouble but can't be sure they are telling the truth ofc - I still have about 24h in which I can cancel the booking for no fee and look for another hotel, should I do it?

    - if the answer to the above is "yes" would you recommend looking for another hotel in a safer area of BKK (which?) or going somewhere completely else (like phuket) for a while? the latter would be quite inconvenient since we have loads of luggage and also my gf requires special medication in her carry on baggage

so just booking another flight wouldn't be so easy, costly of course also but it wouldn't break us financially..

    - I'm reading about a supply shortage, food and water.. is this only for the shops/malls or are restaurants etc closed and out of stuff also?

    - the airport rail link and bts are running normal, yes?

    - 3g internet is still working/unaffected yes?

will post more questions here if I can think of them,

thank you very much in advance for any help/answers and good luck to everyone affected by the flooding, I hope it won't get much worse than it already is!

  9. thank you and sorry that I forgot to include the info: I don't need sms period and voice only for like emergencies - does tot 3g mean I have no voice capabilities at all or just that their voice package is less good?

if I can top up my voice package with like 50thb or so that is really all I need - if it means I absolutely can't call or recieve calls with tot 3g I'd rather pick AIS

    edit:

just looked at the tot website, answered above but have more questions :)

If I choose "prepaid" "on net" I can see "load PLATINUM" "850 thb" "3g 6gb" "30 sms" "talk 60(minutes I guess?)"

if I choose "net sim" I can see "30 days" "790 thb" "unlimited hspa" - this is the one without voice/sms right?

for "net sim" is unlimited there really unlimited or is the speed capped after x gb? in the T&C it says it can't be topped up so I have to buy a new card once the period is over?

same for "load platinum" is this full 3g speed for 6gb? T&C here are only in Thai which I unfortunately can't read yet - what is the max speed there, in the t&c for the netsim it says mbps - is this the same or slower/faster?

  10. Hello,

I'm looking for a pre paid 3g provider that I can use for my samsung galaxy ace, I want to use it as a modem to surf on my laptop etc.

I think it only supports 900 and 2100 mhz for 3g?

Which provider that sends 3g signal on 900 or 2100 mhz has the best deal, it does't have to be the cheapest,

speed, coverage and if possible unlimited (or at least a lot of) gb transfer are more important but lower price is good also obviously..

    thanks for any help!

  11. Hello,

I have a question regarding the 60 days tourist visa.

On arrival, they stamp you for 60 days - I was in Thailand (Phuket) last year and the gave me a stamp 25th feb - 25th apr which is obviously less than 60 days but I didn't care about it back then as my flight back was earlier anyways.

Now I'm coming to Thailand again and noticed that my stay will be 91 days, I misscalculated and planned it to be 90 days (60 days and 30 days extension).

I will arrive on oct 26th and my flight out is on jan 24th so I will overstay by one day - unless they will just stamp me for oct 26th - jan 26th again?

So what are they actually doing (this is BKK btw)?

    - stamping for 60 days and the guy who stamped me last time was just too lazy to calculate

    - or just adding 3 months to the arrival date, e.g. arrival oct 26th means stamp until jan 26th?

if I only get a oct 26th - jan 23th stamp, can I avoid the overstay by spending a night at the airport hotel (if there is one)?

  12. thanks for the responses!

@mario: thank you for your concern, we do have a certificate from her doctors which says she can fly/travel, that one was neccessary for her travel insurance too and also a "patient pass"

confirming she needs to carry and bring her meds with her - was a bit of a hassle with Emirates because at first they told us it would definitely be no problem to bring them on board,

after our booking then it was deemed impossible but after a series of calls and emails we now have the confirmation black on white and attached to her ticket in their system,

here is hoping there won't be any new complications when boarding..

  13. Hi,

My girlfriend brings with her medication that needs to be cooled, and the cooling packs we will bring will be not so cool anymore after our long flight.

Can we get ice after our arrival at the airport so that we can keep her meds cooled until we reach the hotel?

Like a plastic bag full of ice would be enough, the meds just have to be stored below 25°C at all times and we do have an isolating bag with us.

    Thanks for any help!

  14. Hello.

My GF is diagnosed with "Suspected Multiple Sclerosis" and it's been suggested to her to start an early immune therapy.

We are currently living in Germany but plan to leave for Thailand for at least a year, for Phuket specifically.

I have searched the web and emailed with several Thai hospitals but didn't find a place in Thailand that gives out the needed Interferone drugs yet,

what I did find out is that the most common Interferon drug in Thailand is called "Betaferon PFS" and none of the Phuket private hospitals have it.

So does any one know of any hospitals in Thailand that give out "Betaferon PFS" or any other Interferon/Copaxone and/or offers treament for Multiple Sclerosis?

Doesn't have to be Phuket, a domestic flight now and then to resupply on the drug would be in order..

Any help wold be greatly appreciated!
