  1. My suggestions are;

    Learn to speak and understand Thai. Make this your #1 priority every free moment you make for yourself.

    Understand how natural it is for boys at this age in this country to behave this way.

    If possible, follow the boys after school with a Thai translator to talk with their parents directly when they come to pick up their child.

    Understand you will never be seen or respected by a Thai as a Thai because you are not Thai... Speaking the language will help you gain a little more respect.

    And finally, don't be a victim. We all play the strongest hand in creating our present circumstances. Try and see the big picture here... Stay positive, focus on what you really want to be doing with your students - with your life. We're never trapped into anything. If you're staying there it's because you want to. Opportunities abound. Don't wait for students, or cultures, or countries to change in order for you to be happy or you'll be waiting a long long time... Good luck! I hope things improve very soon, if not already.

  2. Stray dogs are troublesome, and an eye sore. There is not enough neutering here. Stray dogs, and even owned dogs, wander the streets eating trash, pissing and shitting everywhere, spreading disease, barking at night, etc.. One reason I like visiting Isaan is because there are no stray dogs on the streets. Why? Because they eat them. Would I eat dog? No, but I didn't grow up eating dog, and if I had I would without any thought. I say let the dog eaters eat dog and be merry. If a stray dog can fill a belly, good.

  3. Sorry for the loss of life at such a young age. I lost two friends to a car accident when they were 23 & 25, they were brothers... and this was in rural Connecticut, one of the wealthiest states in the US. My point; automobile accidents are still (I believe) the number one cause of death while traveling from A to B no matter what country you are in. I pray for the families and friends of these kids..

  4. Sad day if DTAC is ever forced to close it's doors here... Not only will many of us have to set up new mobile accounts (most likely with True), but it will be goodbye to one of the most customer friendly businesses I've ever been with in Thailand. I will sorely miss them if they go.

    If DTAC has hidden it's real ownership, as many foreigners do for smaller businesses and residential properties, I hope they find the right people to bribe so they can continue to operate here.
