  1. Thanks Guys for all your input. I am going to enroll at St Robert's and start next month. I went to Kru Supa and they gave me my 4th waiver but said I won't get a 5th. They also said that they accept the Degree of Education from St Robert's for the teaching licence. St Robert's also said that I can do the course 100% online but I will have to do an extra paper in lieu of going to lectures in Bangkok. Will let you know how I get on.

  3. Hi

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and I am about to apply for my 4th waiver letter from Kru Supa. I believe this is the maximum they give. I have already done the Culture course and as far as I know the 9 module course they had to allow people like me obtain the teaching licence has been scrapped. Is this correct? Kru Supa seem to be saying there is no course run by them now and you will have to find your own way to meet the minimum requirements i.e a degree in education.

My question is what options are open to me? I live in Ubon so if there were online courses it would be easier. I am looking for a course which is accepted by Kru Supa and is the cheapest and of shortest duration. This is just for me to stay in Thailand. I am not doing this for employment enhancement.

The best option I have heard so far is St Roberts in Bangkok which offer an education degree over 18 months for around 60k THB. This is through  IFUGAO University which is in the Philippines. I know this is currently approved by Kru supa as a couple of Filipino teachers here who completed the course have recently obtained their teaching licence. Does anyone know of other options? I heard there might be one in Khon Kaen?

    Thanks

  4. Hi

I am living in Ubon and I am thinking of going to Siem Reap in Cambodia next month for a family holiday (wife and 3 young kids). I was wondering the following.

    1. can I drive my own Thai registered car across the border to Cambodia? If so must I pay do some paperwork in Ubon before I go?

    2. Is it cheaper in the long run to take my own car (we plan to stay near Siem Reap for the whole week we are there) or go by bus and use Tuk Tuk's

    3. Can i use Thai baht in Cambodia or must I bring US dollars with me before I go?

    Thanking you in advance

  5. I am looking to invest in a fixed term deposit for 6 months and it was grim reading to see the low rates on offer. The best I could see was 1.65% from Thanachart bank!! Then I spotted a rate from a bank I had not heard from before, Tisco bank. They are quoting 2.35 for 6 months.

My question is, is Tisco a commercial bank, that can accept deposits from personal savers like myself?

    Thanks in advance

  6. Can anyone please tell me about the Department of Social Development and Welfare on Ratchawithi Road, specifically the Child Adoption centre?
I have been ringing them for over a month and there has been no answer. Is the office closed? Have they moved offices?

    Thank you.

  7. Hi

I am an Irish national now living and working in Thailand. I have 35k in a 12 month term deposit in Ireland that is up for renewal next month. I am thinking of transferring the funds presently in Euro to Thai Baht at my bank in Thailand. I know the rates are lower (I think about 2.5% in Thailand against 4% in `ireland for a 12 month deposit) I was wondering the following:

    1. What is the best way to transfer the funds? I have read some people saying SWIFT gives the eventual best rate. Is this better than presenting a Euro cheque for the amount at my bank?

    2. Must I declare the funds to customs at the airport? If I must what does this process involve and if I don't what are the possible consequences

    3. Can i hold the funds in my own name in my bank account in Thailand. Are there any other restrictions I should know about?

    Thanks again

  8. Hi,

I am an Irish citizen living in Thailand. My wife is Thai and we have 2 boys who have Thai passports. This March we want to travel to Ireland and I contacted the Irish embassy in Bangkok asking for information re my families visas. With regard to our two sons they replied the following:

I suppose your child are entitle to have an Irish passport as they are a child of an Irish citizen(who was born in Ireland). Please apply an Irish passport for your sons as our Visa office will not accepted a visa application from a person who entitle to get Irish passport.

Can this be true? Surely it is for us parents to decide if we want our kids to have a Thai or Irish passport?

    Hoping someone can enlighten me.

    Thanks and Regards

  9. Hi

I am looking to buy a car from Chevrolet in Ubon Ratchathani. The dealership are offering 3.6% interest p.a. which would mean a hefty 21% over 6 years. The car value is 587k but I will end up paying close to 700k!!!

I was wondering if getting a loan from my bank instead would work out cheaper? Information I have been getting is that the banks charge the same.

    Thanks

    Liam

  10. Thanks for all your comments. I liked the idea from 'ThailandInvestmentGuide' who said that we can make an agreement that if we separate then the house automatically goes to our son. We have spoken to a lawyer and he says we will have to do two documents. One is in the event of the death of my wife , whose name the house is in, and the second one is in the event of separation. For this we have to prepare our own document between ourselves which the lawyer would witness and sign as guarantor.

  11. Hi

I am Irish and married to a Thai. We are renting a house at present in Ubon. Now the landlord wants to sell and he has a potential buyer. We have 4 kids and we don't really want the hassle of househunting this close to the new school term so we are thinking of buying ourselves. The house we feel is great value ( 3 bedroomed for 1.6m).

We have gone to a bank to enquire on a mortgage but as my wife is a housewife and has been out of the country for the last 2 years (in India where I was working) and as I am a foreigner with no bank history we are obviously having difficulties.

I have the 1.6m in savings in Ireland and my wife has a small bit of land from her home which we are hoping to use as security against the loan. I will have to transfer the money here. The bank say that if i put cash up as security it has to be put in an account in my wife's name as the mortgage will have to be in her name..Can anyone advise me on what i can do taking into account I want to protect my investment.

    Thanks and Regards

  12. Hi,

Can anyone tell me if Bangkok city are planning fireworks for the King's celebrations on 5th December? I am sorry if this seems petty considering the problems some people must be experiencing in the city. Also I know the airport is open and it is possible to get into the city (we will be staying near Khaosan) but is it possible to get out to Cha Am from the city?

    Thank you

    Liam

  13. Hi

My name is Liam O Connor. I am a citizen of Ireland. My fiancee is Thai and it was our intention to get married this month in Yasothon. However, recent correspondence with the registry office in Yasothon informed us that I would need official confirmation from Ireland that I am single and not already married in Ireland. It was our hope to get married this month but it is too short a time to get the necessary documentation from Ireland. Can anyone tell me is what the Registry office correct? Is there any way around it?

I can get relevant forms it is just that we will have to rearrange our plans.

    Thanks and Regards

    Liam

  14. Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the address for the Immigration office in Yasothon?

I am traveling to Thailand in 2 weeks from Kolkata and I want to stay for 2 months. I don't have time now to go through the visa application process here so I am planning on getting my automatic 30 day tourist visa on arrival and then going to the immigration office in Yasothon (near where I will be staying) and paying the 1900 or so baht for a 30 day extension.

I am 37 years old and I am from Ireland.

    Thanks
