  1. Buy a generator you dont really need something that will run the entire place because it is unusual for power to be off more than a few hours. However this time of year a fan can make a great deal of difference. In the event the power stays out for an extended period a small generator can keep your frezzer at temp with a couple of hours run time. The electrician is here today placing outlets in each room on a dedicated circuit that will be tied into the genny in order to lite a lamp or run a fan as necesssary. It really does beat sitting in the dark sweating.

  3. If I transfer atleast 40k to my thai bank account, do I still need to get something from the US embassy in bangkok? Could I just show the local immigration officer my thai book bank showing that I deposit atleast 40k per month?

Wouldn't that be convient heavens no that simply wouldnot do much to easy and sensible. Just rember the samon and keep swimming against the flow and keep your goal in mind and deal with the obsticles placed in your path and go to the embassy pay the extorsion fees and get the letter oh dont foreget to make an appointment if you are are US citizen also call and make sure you have an appointment the system dosenot work very well. Good luck

  4. Yes, Immigration could ask someone to "show evidence" -- but there is no firm rule that they will nor what they want to see. Usually, they judge people by how they handle themselves at Immigration, how long they've been in Thailand, the age and educational difference between them and their wife, source of income, etc.

They aren't qualified (or really that interested) in looking over someone's 401K statement -- but they love to see official-looking documents from a mannerly person. Chance are they'll just wave it away, without looking, when the document is presented quickly, with a smile.

I'd suggest dressing up, or at a minimum, wearing business casual. If you look professional, they will probably assume that you have financial resources. Can't hurt!
Proper atire and gromming can make all the difference in the world when dealing with government officals.
  5. I am curious where the the proof of income requirement orginated? Immigration told me that the U.S. government requires it. That begs the question about scouts honor I thought that strange they did not ask for documentation. Reading this thread it seems to be a Thai government requirement?

  6. I belive the law requires it to be within 30 days old. I was unaware of that year before last but when I went to immigration with my letter around two months old they did not take issue with it. I guess it all depends on how they feel about you. Best bet is less then 30 days old or stop by immigration explain your situation and ask if that would be allright.

  7. Folks I am thinking of planting a Rai of pinto beans for my and the wifes comsumption. We are in North West Nakonsawan almost Kapangpet. I do not know the PH of the soil this property has been in sugar beets I assume forever crop rotation not big around here.I would appreciate if anyone has experience growing these in Thailand. The land has good drainage and water is available. I am most curious as to when to plant in the moonsoon cycle they require 90 days to mature my guess would be to plant in rainy season and harvest in the dry to accomodate drying.

  8. You don't say where you are so any local knowledge will be useless.

Any decent motorbike shop will be able to procure and fit a tach. for you. They put them on Waves, so... The only drawback will be the location as most step-through tachs don't come with a handlebar mount. I suggest maybe a tach for a Kawasaki KSR 110?

As you are old school you will know to stay away from digital displays?

    Last resort Faddybike!

Thanks I will check with the Kawa. dealer in Nakon Sawan.

  9. Hi.

How are things going with the pup? Has he settled down? Beagles are pack animals and need the other memebers of the pack human and k9 alike. They have real anxiaity issues when left alone which often results with distructive behaviour. Let me know if you think you may need to get rid of him we have alarge place with a built in Pack if you are looking for a home for him.

  10. If something happens regularly and is expected, why is it news?

KInda depends on how much worse it is then other times and of course last year made it news. I for one am really interested in it because i got flooded last time. It never happened before here so i keep my fingers crossed last year was the last.

Also its a good test to see how well the money the government spent was used.

Take a look at the weather patterns this and last year I personally believe if the storms that assulted China this year had hit Thailand like last year it would have been an instant replay of last years flooding.
