  1. Many over stays are immigrations own ineptitude in my opinion. My most recent experience was an immigration officer stamped my passport for 90 days when it should have been 30 days at most which i learned later at the Airport when another immigration officer tried to hold me up for money because of this error.

I was lucky to get out of Thailand and it was NO FAULT or attempt at deception on my part at all. I always followed the stamps immigration put in my passport.

BTW I was on a Retirement Visa...

i am Now thinking i may never return???? My own country OR another nearby to Thailand like laos or Cambodia may want me and my money more and be more congenial.

  2. After being married to my Thai Wife for 29 Years and upon returning to Thailand in 2012 the subject of a Dowery has come up a few times.

I just ask em how much DO I GET?

  3. Surprised not much was said about JOBS. In my opinion any resentment or dislike would stem from the Thai's thinking that the Farang has taken a Thai Job.

When i first moved here the first question was "Where You Work?" After a few "Iam retired and NO WORK" explainations the villagers quit asking. Every once in a while i would get a "Farang Go Home" yelled as some Ahole passed but even that has slowed to nothing.

  4. I also today inquired at my local immigration office about a 1-year extension for a retirement visa.

Contrary to what has been stated elsewhere in this forum:

    1) the money in my bank account would have to have been seasoned for 3 months

    2) a foreign currency account with the equivalent of 800,000 baht would not suffice; the money had to be in baht

The erroneous TV answers would best be replaced by "depends on many variables; check at your local immigration office".

Also, there are many reports locally of bribes being paid to both immigration officials AND banks to circumvent the rules. (The bank will, for a fee, put money into your account and then remove it when the extension has been obtained.)

I would never pay bribes in this rotten country and I suppose the immigration officers sensed this and did not offer. The bank, however, did offer to arrange things and I declined.

Furthermore, as I am not an American I cannot just "swear in an affidavit" that I have 65,000 baht per month in income - without having to provide proof - so that well-known ruse was also not available.

So you assume that Americans are Fibbers? I think the Thai Immigration has learned over the years who is truthful and who isn't:wai2:
  5. Good JOB! Let em know that the Jealousy they have toward your family is their problem and they need to it leave outside of your home and Family.

We have the same problem in our family to the extent that if a Sister-in-Law should come by to help out the wife when she isn't well is all of a sudden a supposed employee getting thousands of baht a month for helping out. It never ends. I have come to the point that I make sure if I need something done that I cant do myself I hire someone OUTSIDE the family.

  6. OMG This post kinda hit home.

When I got up this AM my wife started nagging me on why I didn't go out and help cut weeds along side of the village road with the other village men as some had asked where I was and why wasn't I out with them.

NOW here is my answer: Those that asked only want me to BUY the Beer and Whiskey when they are done and that's THE ONLY reason they want me to join in. I don't speak Thai and have Almost come to the conclusion that I don't want to :)

I cut the weeds in front of our house and don't expect to cut weeds in front of anothers house..

I am yet to be asked to ANYTHING where they don't expect me to pay. I REFUSE to be used as the village ATM.

  7. I'm always up for a gab, I don't think there is any farangs in my village so if it means stopping and chatting in the aisles of big c, then so be it.

Sent from my Nexus 4 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Same here. I am the only Farang in the village. I have been here about a year and a half and speak only Rudimentary Thai. I don't seem to have an Aptitude for learning a new language at least at my age of 58. I do speak some German but that was learned in my Teens and have even forgotten most of that LOL I guess I do look forward to an English spoken "hello how are you?" too much when I am out and about and that's my problem not those other Farangs.

I guess what I want is for We Farangs to SMILE as the physical act of smiling will in fact make you and all those around you feel better.

  8. Turning the question round the other way ... to the OP (StevenHeidbriderSr)

    • What is your great desire to connect with someone what, most likely you would not connect with back in your country of birth?
    • Why do you feel just a little bit slighted when they don't return your eye contact?

    .

I don't feel slighted in the least. I just think the Guy has problems and move on. I guess if I saw they at least had a genial smile instead of a my dog just died frown I wouldn't even have posted.
