The bit I am struggling with is if the destination was the UK, it just doesn't seem to be worth enough for anyone to be coercing anyone. I don't know what a suitcase full of ganja costs in the UK but I'm guessing it might be in the thousands or tens of thousands range. Enough for a young bloke who saw how dirt cheap and easy it was to buy in Thailand and could be a handy bit of pocket money if he could get some back home. I'm not buying the criminal gang story. I reckon a young bloke has rolled the dice, not thought ahead of the consequences, like young people do, or figured he would try to talk his way out of it if he did get nabbed.

Out come the wowsers. Prohibition in any form has never worked to curb alcohol consumption, only education works. The real problem drinkers (my brother in law is one sadly) are able to easily buy Lao Khao any time they like. This only harms tourism.

Silly to get angry about this. Both are very poor countries with ladies who want out of their current predicament. For either country to look down on the other is just silly. In my experience about 50% of mixed marriages fail, mostly due to unrealistic expectations as a result of the cultural divide, and often large age differences. I have lots of friends married to Thais and Filipinas and the relationships that have survived the early years are very successful.

I have always gone with the missus in the Thai Passports section. Last time she used the automatic gate and I went to a manned one. Suvarnabhumi was busy but we were through security and immigration in 15 minutes. It has improved out of sight. Credit where it is due. The following morning we landed in Sydney and it was an absolute nightmare. Like it always is there.

I have lost track of the number of people I have warned about not riding a motorbike in Thailand. It should go without saying that if you don't hold a valid license to ride the same sized bike in your home country then you will not be insured. Every travel insurance policy I have seen explicitly says this. Same as no coverage for alcohol related incidents. Bloody lucky the missus was wearing a helmet. I have very sympathy for the young family involved but now a hopefully generous public are being called upon to fund what was irresponsible behaviour.
