  1. Hello all, I just got done getting the Wife and I new phones for in the U.S. but I had to add a 3rd phone. I picked the Motorola XPRT because it said it had worldwide capabilities. Should it work in Thai as long as I get a sim card there? here is the specs. Thanks

    Bands/Modes

    Dual-band CDMA EVDO Rev A (800/1900) + Tri-band UMTS/HSDPA, 850/900/1800/1900MHz GSM, GPRS Class 12, EDGE Class 12; 850/1900/2100 WCDMA (category 9/10); HSDPA 10.2mbps, HSUPA 1.8 mbps

  2. My train of thought is leave me or anyone out here out of it, then it shows a tie here and potiential to stay beyond what she is allowed. I do have another thai friend in the states and she is here on and educational visa and also has tourist visa. Her family got their visas no problem (mother and brother). So I guess it all comes down to my lack of knowledge and seeing many variables. Just seeking guideance and info to do it the best way possible. And thanks to all who have offered info so far.

"36 year old female, holds a higher position in a company she has been with 15 years, helps with family business (farm), very traditional and still lives with mother (father passed a few years ago). Not rich but middle class."

This sounds like pretty strong ties to Thailand. Have her provide her work history, and anything from the family farm that may have her name on it.

I would leave the mom out of it.

The application process will ask about a sponsor, with whom, and where she will be staying. If she is coming to see you and do some traveling, I would tell them that. If you don't, there is a chance something could slip out later in the process or during the interview, and then she is screwed, probably forever.

The most important thing is to be completely honest.

It can be done. My GF got her US visa last month.

    Good luck.

  3. Not rejected yet, but getting ready to apply and from all I have read expecting the worst. So we are just exploring other options. And what I have advised her is to only provide them with the info they ask for (after all to much info or above and beyond what they ask for can only raise questions or other problems) No family in US but I also told her to mention her mother "might" be traveling with her if she can get time off as well for travel. I told her not to mention people here she knows (so no ties to US other than tourist reasons).

  4. I have a friend who is getting ready to try to get a tourist visa (as long as possible) for the US. We both have heard it is very tough to get. If they are denied the first time are they able to vacation in another country and apply for a tourist visa at the US embassy while visiting that country to travel to US. Just wondering if a change of embassy's, people working there and being from another country would have any benifit. Just so I am clear I will give a example: Friend goes to japan and decides they want to go to on an extended vacation instead of returning home. so they fill out necessary paperwork to travel to next country they would like to visit (US) and apply at US embassy in the country they are currently in. Info on the person who will be traveling: 36 year old female, holds a higher position in a company she has been with 15 years, helps with family business (farm), very traditional and still lives with mother (father passed a few years ago). Not rich but middle class. they will not be metioning they knows anyone here and will mention tourist areas to visit when here (las vegas, disneyland and tourist area's like that). So I guess I am just looking at other options for them to assist in their travels.

  5. I went to the bank today to get some cashiers checks for my trip to thai next week. The lady at wells fargo told me they no longer carry them because many places are not accepting them any longer do to fraud problems. She said everyone uses cards now. Has anyone else had problems with cashiers checks and exchanging them for baht in thai. Is the card the safest way to exchange now?

  6. I am looking for a couple gift ideas, something that cannot be purchased in Thai or is harder to get there. Nothing too expensive, maybe $25 each give or take. One is for a Thai couple or should something be brought seperate for each (mid- 30's in age), the second is for a single woman (friend nothing more) in her early 40's. I am in the States and would like to give something that has a little thought and meaning behind it. I just am not sure what is appropriate or what Thai's desire from here. I figure women know best about gift giving and most of those here have some knowledge of thai's. I cannot bring any more alcohol (2 bottles of wine already), 3- things of perfume for a couple people closer to me, 2- of scented bath salts and all my personal grooming items. I have about two weeks before I leave, I will be in the Colorado area. I also do not want to mess with clothes (too personal in the case of the couple and do not want to deal with sizing issues). I was thinking something like a precious moments or other collectable figureine (just a thought, but what about him). I will entertain any serious thoughts, hello kitty is not going to cut it, haha. Thank you Ladies!

  7. That is what I thought also! Finally got ahold of a compentent person at my jewelry shop and they said it was 6.25. Fingers crossed because that is the size I got! Haha! Thanks everyone

Thai size 52 is not 9, but size 6, I am sure, have been in the jewelry business for long time

  8. I have searched here and the sizing charts on the internet and everything is clear as mud while trying to convert a Thai size to Us size. So I hope one you you Ladies could assist me. Her Thai size is 52, she thinks it is about a 9 US size or 18.9mm if that sounds right. Every conversion chart I look at seems to be different somehow. Any information you could provide would be of great help. I need to get it ordered very soon (we already picked it out online) and want it when I go to Thai in a month.

  9. Are there any reputable jewelry shops around chonburi/pattaya? From what I read good diamonds seem to be harder to find in Thailand. And we are also thinking platinum which is not popular in thai. yellow gold is still a thought. I was curious about World Gems in Pattaya, are they reputable? Should I just purchase here in the US? Any information would be of great help, Thanks!

  10. I would like to have a phone and texting while in Thailand, this is my first trip and just need it to communicate with the Girlfriend and some businesses around the country. I currently have a second droid phone that is on verizon, but do not use it for anything. Am I able to just get a new sim card while in thailand, will I have to get it unlocked or should I just buy a prepaid type of phone. I have tried to search a little but am still a little clueless. Is it as easy as going to 7-11 for a prepaid sim? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

  11. @ SBK flight is at 10 in the morning. It is starting to sound like I should just stay in Sriracha then get a ride to the airport in the morning. About the same time to get to the airport I am guessing and of course my friend knows sriracha very well so we might have a better time there or the surrounding areas the day before the flight. Thanks again all for the replies!

  12. Hello a friend and I will be coming from Sriracha to take a flight to Krabi. I wanted to go up the day before the flight and "quickly" see bkk. I plan on spending most of my time elsewhere. I am looking for a good hotel that is not to far from the airport but close enough to street vendors and maybe something to do in bkk during the afternoon and evening. Any suggestions on a good hotel and what to do and see in a very short time?

  13. Hello all! The second week in sept. I will be traveling with a Thai Friend down to south Thailand area, She has never been so I am asking for advice for areas to go. Looking for not to touristy, but still have a variety to do. I have also heard there are some unsafe areas which I would like to stay far from. Romantic, not to busy nice beaches and a nice place to stay that wont break the bank. We will be renting a car so we will have more avaliable to us, but I do not want to spend all the time in the car. I was thinking satun area but open to the best overall experience, we will have 4-5 days in the area. does the weather change much from the east side to the west? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

  14. Hello all Thanks for the replies! I think I now have all the main things booked, Flight- directly through the airlines just as cheap as anything else I found, Hotel through agoda. I will be arriving late so bus is out, but have two possible taxi services one through the hotel and one that is independent and mentioned on this site. Once again thank you all and now I can relax a little before planning specifics.

  15. Hello I am Coy, currently in Las Vegas, US. been lurking for awhile, decided to join so here I am. My head is spinning from all the information I have been cramming into it before I go to Thai. I will be making my first trip in Sept and staying anywhere from 3-6 weeks.
