  1. The Royal Thai Embassy in the past did indeed have a bit of a reputation of possibly not being the most helpfull place in the Uk to make applications and get approval but from personal and most recent experience I cannot complain.

As said in earlier posts I decided to go for my first Noni "o" (after all these years )and dropped the papers off on the Friday morning (10 minutes) and picked them up again with visa on the following Monday....15 minutes.

As said above they do not accept postal applications but if you live in the smoke it only a short run down to South Ken.by tube and a 10 minute walk from there.

Lots of little French type coffee shops for cappu and "Qua-sonts" :o afterwards. :D

Thank's to all. I have written an email to the embassy and one to the consulate in Hull. I live in the Isle of Wight so it is a bit of a hike up to the embassy, and twice, good coffee notwithstanding.

  2. If I'm in the wrong place again,Sorry. I will be trying for a retirement visa in UK, I am English and over 50. I have read comments which do not flatter the embassy in London, plus references to THE consulate in UK,I have also seen adverts on this site advertising help rangeing from telephone consultation to full "wheel lubrication" for a price. Naturally if it were easy to get a visa from the embassy this should not be necessary. Does anyone know whats what. I have been visiting Thailand for over twenty years have enough Thai to get by and would prefer to do it myself.

  3. Thanks for all the replies.

Now all i need to do is convince Mrs TizMe that I'm not a lazy bastard, and that I'm just obeying the law...  :o

Gosh what a frightening prospect to be thrown out of the country for DIY. Years ago I bought a new condo and needed a kitchen so built it myself; I was down at Atagan Prasit hasselling any one with a crosscut on a bench handy to cut down sheets of ply to fit them into the car, sawing and glueing in the carpark with curious fellow residents indulging my eccentricity but nobody "shopped"me. I didn't realize. I guess that's why golf clubs insist that you have a caddy, I wonder if I should discontinue cleaning my clubs.

  4. Sorry Lop, it's how I explain it to most of our lot, but I'll try not to do so here.

I still think you'll be okay in Penang, but I'd check with a agent.

For sure you'll be okay at THE Consulate in UK, I've done it many a time for people who still have active Visas (or whatever you wanna call it).

I have been advised to get my retirement visa in London, The references to THE consulate makes me feel there is something I should know.

  5. My wife seemed to think a speech would be a good idea, but then again when I asked her other questions about our impending wedding ceremony she didn't seem to know much about it and had to phone her mum.

I knew there'd be drinking but didn't expect it to be so full on.  Maybe as they know it's free they're afraid it's going to run out so they get their share ASAP.

I also imagined if I stood up with a mike and cleared my throat everyone would shut up and listen, maybe not!

Oh well, I'd like to have something prepared to say anyway.  And by speech I did mean thanking everyone individually and maybe a few other lines about our future.

I'll do as you suggest Meadish and post something in English in the near future and then ask advice on translation.

However, if anyone wants to add some advice, or a couple of lines to get me started, then please feel free.

    Thanks all.

  6. I will be leaving the Middle East next month for two months in England then I should like to go to Thailand on a retirement visa. Is the correct thing to get a 90 day entry from London and then apply at Suan Plu with all the requrements? the instructions are not clear. I would expect to visit the UK for three months during the summer, since I would not be checking-in at 90 day intervals I think that I would have to have some sort of exit visa, and would then have to return before the original year visa was up to reapply. I would like to continue this cycle for the forseeable future, does anyone know if this is a sound plan.

  7. Looking for players for play. I live near the twenty minutes South of the Airport and play Army, Airforce and the two Meuang Ake courses generaly. Need English speaking support. Not serious; I play with old clubs to give myself an excuse! hcp14. There from 2nd Nov initially.

  8. I have been woring in the UAE for years and ther is no problem, the chances of a Serial Killer are slim, everyone is working for their future here. Ettihad is a new airline and flies from London on Monday and Tuesday evenings connecting in Abu Dhabi to a flight to Bangkok after a stopover of about an hour and a half I believe. They may be a little more expensive because it is the favorite for ex-pats from LOS to UK

  9. I have a friend who has been visiting England for many years, A Thai National who needs a visa for UK and has a multi-entry visa valid for five years, max length of stay six months. As a Brit. visiting Thailand I do not need a visa for a stay of thirty days but anything over that I need to apply with a letter from the company," mentioning the monthly salary and job position" (I work in the Middle East) show a return Air Ticket, and a confirmed hotel reservation.!!! To add injury to insult I have to do this for each visit. Not very welcoming are they? or is it that Thais are better negotiators than Brits at the diplomatic level.
