  1. Can anyone make any recommendations for a nice place to stay over xmas in Phuket? I am going with my mate and want a nice festive meal and nice surroundings whilst beings with walking distance but not hearing distance to Patongs nightlife.

Are there any champagne brunches on the island over xmas?

  2. Im heading to Patong this weekend with a group of friends for a stag weekend.

What time is Tiger and the other Bangla Road bars open until now? Is Tiger still managing 3am closing times?

Are there any soapies in Patong? Are there any after-hours venues to go when everywhere else is shut?

    Cheers.

  3. in fact there is a 4-story complex in jakarta that's open non-stop from friday 2pm, till monday morning 10am

The Stadium in Jakarta... Now that's a mental place.

I was out last night in Singapore enjoying myself until 6:00am which is when the bars and discos are open until. Never thought I would see the day when I could party harder in Singapore than in Bangkok.

Having said that though, Phuket is still getting away with 3:30am closing times and the authorities are talking of zoning Pattaya which will introduce later closing times.

I really do hope that Thaksin stops strangling the nightlife in Thailand. Some of my best lifetime memories involve Thailands nightlife.

  4. From Pattaya Today:

Local member of parliament Mr Chanyut Hengtrakul has assured Pattaya bar owners that he is aware of the loss of business since the 1 a.m. closure rule was introduced.

He said he knew full well that Pattaya was a tourist orientated city, attracting perhaps 10 billion baht a year in customer revenue, which had a good case for a universal closing time of 3 a.m. He promised to bring the licensing problems of the resort to the attention of the deputy interior minister Khun Somchai Sunthonwat as well as to prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. A meeting was held last week under the chairmanship of the Pattaya city hall president Khun Tawich Chaysawangwong which was attended by representatives of the bar and club owners’ collective as well as by civil dignitaries including Pattaya mayor Niran Wattanasartsathorn. The meeting heard from the bar owners of several problems which were leading to difficulties. Licences to operate were issued annually, but all applications had to be submitted to Banglamung district and there were often delays before the new licences were issued. In the meantime, police sometimes visited the licensed premises and took or threatened action because the paperwork was not in order. Member of parliament Chanyut promised to ask the police to cooperate with bars and clubs if they were in the waiting period. But what caused a buzz in the meeting and afterwards was the suggestion that the closing time could be extended by two hours. The universal closing time of 1 a.m. has affected most bars and clubs in Pattaya detrimentally and visitors have complained loudly about the nanny state instructing them what to do and when to go home. One solution might be to allow the whole of Pattaya and Jomtien to be a “zone” because of the resort’s role as an international playground. Last year, there were informal suggestions from the ministry of the interior that the 1 a.m. closing rule might be relaxed in some areas after a period of rigid enforcement.

  5. Hi,

There is a new club opening next week behind Blue Chilli on 3rd Road that will be playing trance and house music, set in tropical gardens, JBL sound system, additionally there is a 3 day party on the 18th 19th and 20th March on Beach Road with djs playing trance. Enjoy :o

Sounds good. Will it not have to close at 1am though?

  6. Found this on a LP Thorntree post today:

  7. Unfortunatly, she was staying in Phi Phi when the wave struck and she has not replied to any of my e-mails.

I have tried to phone her mobile and there is just a call back service message on her mobile.

I am going out of my mind with worry and I dont know what else to do to try and find out whats happened to her.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do? Any phone numbers I can phone?

    Thanks.

  8. Just heard that bars in Pattaya will be closing at 1am on Xmas Eve and NYE. Can anyone confirm if this is true?

I will be gutted if it is. I dont want to be sitting in a bar with the doors locked and no music all night.

    Cheers.

    T.

  9. Dunno about Tokyo but have had some great nights in Singapore and close at 4am or later.

add kl, went there last weekend, got back at my friends place plastered at about 4.30am and the bars/discos were still going!

by the way great manila chicks there!

    off to singapore this weekend....

Singapore now has 24 hour licensing with a lot of bars chosing to stay open until 6am. There are some really good clubs in Singapore too. Singapore nightlife has really progressed over the past couple of years.

On the subject of Phuket... I spoke to a Thai girl in Patong yesterday and she said all bars are still staying open until 2am and Dragon Disco was open until 3:30am.

After the protest, I thought they had been told that they can unofficially stay open until 2am.

I think it's time for another protest..!!

  10. From Pattaya Today newspaper:

A council insider, who asked not to be named, told Pattaya Today that the most likely end game will be that provincial governors, the so called CEOs, will be given discretion about opening hours within the broad band of the 2004 legislation. However, there is likely to be a short period of further confusion whilst the matter is arbitrated and decided in the national corridors of power. “Expect good news before Christmas,” is what our reporters heard.

    - “Expect good news before Christmas" - I hope so. :o
