  1. Thanks for the resplies folks.

That's the main issue with freelancers as most advertise they have full credentials to do something but in the end they can't

Ain't that the truth! Almost 8 years online and not a single recommendation. And even when you do find someone who's competent, most overshoot their deadlines by weeks, or months even, on larger dynamic projects, and guess what? Paying higher prices doesn't always guarantee you a better job.

Anyhow, are you looking for free or paid service?

Oh I always pay for services and mostly pay for products. Can't be doing with owing favours to anyone for anything ;)

doesn't vB provide tech support ?

Yes it does. Tech support is mainly for fixing errors or guiding folks to various help files. Changing their forums can be done with various skins, but i'm not looking for a new fixed skin, just a tweaked new and unique look to match the theme of the site.

I certainly don't want a forum as bland and as 1970's in appearance as this one that TV uses (no disrespects guys). You see, when you have a new project it's crucial to be mindful that there's never a second chance to make that first impression to new visitors, and so 'just another bog standard forum' won't cut it ;)

Anyhow, I might have found my man at last. He's in Canada and has 6 years full-time experience working with vBulletin. Let's hope he delivers because this is forum Guru #3 and it all starts to get a bit costly after a while :(

    Cheers

  2. Just wondering if anyone reading this has a working knowledge of the vBulletin SW? Basically, I want the forum to blend in seamlessly with the main site. Here's a summary of the details:

    1. Forum uses my header (which is the same as main site)

    2. Forum uses my forum background image

    3. Forum has transparent background behind forum headers

That's it. This is just a cosmetic change to the appearance of the forum so that it blends in perfectly with the main site's theme. I'm guessing it's easier said than done having just experienced a total bodge-job from the last freelancer that had a go and failed miserably :(

    Cheers

  3. I hope this crap never catches on here. Once in England some kids pelted me with eggs when I refused to give them any money. One caught me dead in the eye, almost blinded. This is just another big commercial enterprise import from America.

If it does catch on here, you can guarantee it'll be drowned out by fireworks like most other festivities, which are far more dangerous than a few rotten eggs getting slung around. That's providing they don't catch you on the pointed end of course, in which case they might as well be small rocks!

In my day, a typical 'trick' I used to play on grumpy old gits, i.e. those who wouldn't even give a small treat like a plain biscuit, was to pick up dog's sh*t on the end of a stick and ram it through the letter boxes. I'm happy to say I soon grew out of such adolescent nastiness and haven't done anything like that for at least a couple of years now :whistling:

But whatever your thoughts on it (talking to everyone here), it's not about you adults, it's about the kids, and any day that brings excitement, joy, and embeds fond memories into the minds of growing children can only be a good thing in my book.

  4. Thanks for the replies folks. I'll take a look around these places next time I'm in the malls.

Ref Nail Polish: You probably mean nail varnish KRS1? I did think of that, and i also had a look around a number of stalls, but I couldn't find anything close to navy blue. But even if i had, i noticed these varnishes seem to be translucent so wouldn't really cover white chips properly anyway.

    Cheers Guys

  5. I tell you a good contact to have, although I've never come across such a number, is for some kind or vehicle recovery service. Getting a puncture on a motorcycle while taking a lone tip around the Samoeng Loop, or the more isolated roads of Mae Wang for example, would certainly give a little piece of mind on such outings.

If anyone does happen to know of such a service, please pass on the details ;)

  6. Hi Forum

Got a few chips through to the metal on the ole Mountain bike, so would like to touch them up before the rust sets in. I've been to 3 bike shops (including a motorcycle dealer), but can't seem to find a touch-up pen, or even a little tin or enamel type paint of similar colour anywhere.

I do like to take care after my things, so any suggestions as to where I might look next much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

  7. I think these things just have to be sweated out Femme, but if you can muster the energy why not go for short walks and see if that helps speed up the recovery process? I'm pretty sure that staying in and waiting for nature to take its course is the longest way to recover. A wise old man once said to me, and I quote;

'The slower we move, the faster we die!'

PREVENTING, OR REDUCING THE SEVERITY OF FUTURE COUGHS AND COLDS

If I make it to the end of the first week in November, I'll be celebrating 2 whole years without as much as a minor sniffle. Not a single illness, soar throat, or fungicidal rash ;)

Up until, these past 2 years, I, like most people, have got at least one cold, sore throat, slight fever etc, every single year for as far back as I can remember. I just assumed it was part of being human and something everyone had to go through when these things came around.

    SO WHAT DID I DO?

The only changes I made in my life these past 2 years is to exercise regularly NO MATTER WHAT, cut down a bit on the amount of acid forming foods I consume, and finally, insist on being happy, or at least content, because I'm convinced that mood has a lot to do with the health of the immune system.

    * Pissed off and miserable = a weak immune system,

    * Happy and content = a stronger immune system.

You watch, I'll wake up in the morning feeling like hot shit now :whistling:

Anyway, get well soon, i know how debilitating these things can be.

  8. There's a good place near Bud's Ice cream (on the same side, but further along Bumrungraj Rd, i.e. away from the flee market street) It's 80 Baht. You can have a coffee at Mosaic coffee shop, or ice cream at Buds while you wait. They do a great job.

Thanks for that keo. I'm not familiar with the area, but i'm sure to find it on the map.

Just been informed of another place that's happy to do bike wash for 50-60 Baht. It's the petrol station in Moon Muang Moat road, next to DK bookshop. The bike wash is right at the back of the petrol station.

    Cheers

  9. Hi Forum,

IT'S A MUCKY OLE JOB BUT SOMEONE'S GOTTA DO IT!

Huay Kaew Road: I used to use the petrol station on Huay Kaew Rd opposite The Lemon Tree restaurant. Recently they've got a new team in there and it doesn’t look as though they are encouraging the motorbike wash & polish service any more. I've nipped in there twice this past month, and the first time got the negative hand wave informing me that it cannot be done, and the second time I was told it would take over 2 hours despite their only being 3 cars in queue. So I'm thinking this new lot might want to promote cars and pickups and perhaps do away with bike wash.

Central Kad Suan Kaew: I quite like the underground wash at Central Kad Suan Kaew. They charge 100 Baht for bikes (as opposed to 40-60 Baht at other places), but it's the best wash and polish I've ever had so don't mind the extra charge. Problem with this place though is that they'll only allow a bike if there are no cars lining up, and even if you tell them you can leave it and come back later, it's still a big NO if they think it's going to remain busy with 4 wheeled vehicles. Fair enough I suppose if that's where the profit is.

So, if anyone here can suggest a good local bike wash 'n' polish place with a waiting time no longer than 30 minutes on average, that would be great.

    Thanks in advance

  10. Anyone got any photos of Wat Umong, Chiang Mai? I've lost count how many times I've passed this place yet failed to pop in with the camera.

If not, I'll probably nip over there in the coming days and grab a few recent shots for the thread. I know too many monk and temple images can wear a bit thin, but I heard this particular place is great for photographs, hence the mention here.

It's supposed to be particularly nice after the rainy season, what with all the foliage and moss crawling around the stonework.

The fancy interior of one of the city's hotels...

Ian - would i be right so assume that's the interior of the Meridian?

  11. These six teenagers stopped their motorcycle long enough to have their picture taken, and then they slowly rode off down the street.

I've seen six children on a bike before, but six teenagers - that is something! Great shot!

    Keep em coming folks!

Just as an aside--and not a Chiang Mai photo I don't think--here's a motorcycle that's more than a bit overloaded: NINE (9)...4 adults, 3 school-aged kids, and 2 babies!!!!!!!!! And that's just those who we can see; maybe there are more on the other side of the cycle.

  12. I once said to an ex girlfriend upon waking up one morning; "Oh hello darling, I just had a dream about you".

Starry eyed and smitten she said, "Ahhhhh, that was nice", to which I replied,

“I bloody well wasn’t! It was a frigging NIGHTMARE!". :cheesy:

  13. Sorry; but i didnt start the topic, I commented on the post and gave information why prices are what they are using my house as an example and I specifically said my house is not put to Market yet; the info regarding reasons for prices was far more informative than any of the other posts; over zealous in your moderating I feel. Never mind; not wanting to make an issue out of it, just sharing my thoughts. Go ahead and delete this if u must.

    Cheers

I remember reading that post mccw i have to say i totally agree with you response above. I'll never understand why so many great responses get deleted willy-nilly for no other reason that 'the deleter' thinks it's not in the best interest of we readers and contributors. It's a strange customer (that's us by the way), relations policy if you ask me, and incredibly annoying when folks take the time, their time, to respond to a post only to have it shovelled off the thread like its worthless or inappropriate babble :annoyed:

Of course, this is just my humble opinion of which I'm surely entitled to on a democratic board, right?

Anyway, i was personally interested in this particular thread, but shall not visit it again due to it being butchered of valuable and credible information.

  14. I use Firefox and see no tracking tick(check) box as you suggest per instructions.

Unfortunately, over 85% of people who use computers fail to keep any of their software up to date, and that includes internet browsers & security software . If people took more time to learn about these things then the spammers, scammers, and virus crooks wouldn't be thriving like they do.

I can assure you FF has this options as per my instructions. Here's a screen-print I prepared earlier (see attached) ;)

  15. Any website you go to can easily see where you have been or where you are going if you use the same browser window.

That term is simply called 'tracking', and whether or not you allow this is your choice. Web tracking can be turned off now in modern browsers, at least with Firefox it can. From your menu bar goto:

Tools/Options/Privacy/Tracking - from the Privacy tab, make sure there's a tick (check for you Yankees), in the box under tracking, which says: Tell websites i do not want to be tracked. Perfectly legal and totally up to the user whether he or she wants other websites following their tracks in cyberspace.

  16. I would blame God for being incompetent and clearly not qualified to be creating planets on his own. Now we're stuck with his sloppy work. :annoyed:

Well said WTK. I agree, it's no good blaming man for the state of the planet. At the end of the day, he's only trying to fix what's not working, broken even. If this orb on which we live is really such a gift, a Garden of Eden perhaps, then surely mankind wouldn't need to try and control the earth, wind, and fire that surrounds it in order to stay alive. Would he?

The thing that's always confused me is this; if there was really something 'living, alive, floating around' that truly created this planet, let alone the cosmos, then why did it take 6 long days to complete a job the size of a tiny grain of sand (on the scope of the universe of course)?

And then our man above had to rest on the seventh day which proves that even God's get burnt out with too much physical labour, and that's only if the story tellers are accurate in their narratives of course! Then there's the question of 'why the rush? I mean, was there a deadline to complete this sphere of ours?

Earth – the Rolls Royce of Planets

So, if the planet Earth was a car it'd be about as popular as those Old Russian Skoda's! Remember them gentle reader? I mean, it rattles and shakes (earthquakes), leaks and floods like crazy (tsunamis, downpours, flash flooding), spontaneously blows up (volcanoes), freezes over, over-heats, and if that little lots not bad enough, it violently throws debris and stuff all over the place at the drop of a hat with its murdering and incredibly powerful gale force winds.

Eeee, I think someone needs to go back to the drawing board and rethink the design and give this ole globe of ours a full makeover! Only this time, let's hope the health & safety Gods keep an eye on construction ;)

  17. Head monk at any temple, for good luck and blessing. Black magic is frowned upon and monks face losing their monkhood if found practicing.

I'm not trying to be funny or anything, although this response might come across that way  but isn't it magicians, not monks, who perform magic? If so, then perhaps there are specific forums where you could get in touch with those folks within the so called magic circle, or whatever it's named, who are most likely better qualified to point you in the right direction?

    Good luck anyway
