  1. Hi,

Could anyone please advise whether it is possible to revert my existing non-im 'B', to an 'O' at my local immigration office (Pattaya)?

As far as I am aware, I can comfortably meet all the required criteria, but all of my info sources imply that it's necessary to apply from outside Thailand, thereafter obtaining 90 days, extendable to a year etc.

It would be very helpful to find out whether this can be done in Pattaya Immigration and, to double-check exactly what the current requirements are.

    Thank you, in advance.

    Tom.

  2. Depends what style of yoga you are looking for.

I like dynamic yoga, and find the sweat and breath work leaves me feeling amazing.

There is a teacher who is authorised to teach the Ashtanga method, and he is running classes at the Mind Resort (there's a studio inside the hotel lobby, by the pool). He is listed on the KPJAYI website in Mysore. I will try to paste the link, but the teachers list needs updating (classes used to be at Areca Lodge, but now moved to Mind Resort).

The teacher is in India for one month, but classes resume on March 31st I think. So, the English speaking number that's listed will be non-responsive until around the 30th.

Here's as much as you need to know about Ashtanga Yoga method:

    Hope it helps.

  3. The replies to this thread have been really helpful. Thanks everyone.

It's convinced me (the op) that I may have a faulty modem, but I'm not going to part with any baht, or call out any engineers until "the house is no longer on fire" (figuratively speaking).

Drops in service are now more frequent, and the automatic modem reboots are a real pain. I am just coping without the things that I can't do right now (like watch ANYTHING at all on YouTube).

    Good luck everyone.

  4. Just wanted to post a personal recommendation for people around Pattaya who like good quality, but affordable Thai food, served in a peaceful environment.

This place has never failed to please and, as it is set in a quiet cul-de-sac, it's got a great atmosphere if you like to escape the rowdy town centre places (sometimes).

It is outdoor, but covered and with all new, good quality, fixtures and fittings.

Most dishes come in at around 120 baht and three of those is ample for my wife and I. No hefty mark-ups on the drink prices either and the staff are really friendly. They don't seem to mind if you want the table for the evening, or are just grabbing dinner, unlike what I've experienced in town from time to time.

It's located just off Thepprasit road, about 200 yards up Soi 4 (on the opposite side of Thepprasit Road to the well known market. The Soi is in-between Aksorn College and two adjacent petrol stations). It is well lit at night, so you won't miss it. I wanted to put the word out because it is particularly good, yet hard to discover in passing.

  5. No more unlimited access for you. Only 3GB and then a slowdown to 256kbps.

Not sure where you're coming from with this mate. I got unlimited coverage without a problem and it's working great in town. As 'Moo9' says though, poor to non-existent outside town, even as close as Jomtien.

  6. Sounds like the Apple fanboys are on their way to becoming the Borg.

    resistance is futile.

Too right mate. Okay, the platforms aren't cheap but, boy, what are they doing to the world of applications. All the best developers are getting empowered, they are seriously pricing the big boys out of the market e.g. 'Powerpoint' $$$, Apple's 'Keynote' (every bit as good but simpler) $9 for iPad!, 'Dropbox' $$/month, 'iCloud'; free unless you want your music upgraded to iTunes specs, then $25/YEAR.

  7. I think that's a matter of choice. I mean, I'm never going to trust some bunker in the USA with all my files, music, movies etc., but having it up there so's it can be grabbed for the iPad, iPhone, iPod, (and, probably by then, the iWatch) well, that's got to be a plus. The big attraction is as nickster mentioned, 'no docking', 'no saving', no cross-platforming when you get a new machine etc. and it's all very affordable, or even free (hope that doesn't change once they're in pole position though).

  8. Great summary nikster.

I was also taken aback by some very, VERY reasonable pricing strategies obviously aimed at gaining market share (which they are doing at an admirable rate). For example, you can now break out iPhoto from the iLife set, and buy it standalone through the app store for about $12. It's a super little application for turning a 'snap' into a keeper of a photograph; and dead easy to use too.

Also, an incredibly giveaway price for 'Lion', which is a major OS upgrade.

  9. I've been happy with my TOT connection for 2 years now, but recently have been wanting to access a music software site for a number of reasons. I can't get a connection, yet other people who are into home recording do so without a problem. I've checked it out with the web site's support engineers, and they're baffled. I've used a number of browsers, yet still get the 'server does not respond' message after a frustrating amount of time.

This is the site that I'm trying to get into:

    Izotope.com

I have done so in the past, but not in the last 10 days or so.

I run OSX 10.6.7 for Mac, and have also tried without the firewall activated. No joy.

I'm not too much of a techie with ISP type problems, so would like to know if anyone can suggest any potential causes or, even better, fixes. Thanks!

  10. This keynote presentation dated June 6th runs for over an hour but , OMG, it is cutting edge stuff.

Okay so you pay a bit more, but you do, and you will, get a lot more for it.

    My link

Even if you don't want to suffer it for the duration, it's worth watching a bit if you're a Mac-fan.

  11. Sorry to disappoint with the directions, especially my mix up over 'Sophon Market'.

The next time I'm down there I'll get a snap from my phone and post it.

Really though, if you are walking or riding up Soi 17 and you pass 'Chik a Boom' on your right side, there's not a lot of margin for error. A couple of noodle stands and the Pad Thai one are the only ones there.

  12. Sorry, but I've confused things because I originally thought Sophon Market was some way up the Soi. Didn't realize that it's actually the market down at the junction with 3rd Road!

So, going from the 3rd road traffic lights, the stall is passed PRS, which is on your left. Chik-a-Boom is on the right (very prominent), and the Pad Thai stand is just a few metres further up, on the same side of the Soi (right).

    Apologies for the initial mix-up.

  13. I'd have said that was Soi 17? Anyhow I live right by Sophon market (at the junction of Soi17/ 3rd road)? but rarely cross 3rd road. Is this place near the PRS or further up towards the Caddy Shack?

Ah yes, Soi 17, thanks. I wasn't too sure what the soi number was easyride, but the Thais know it as 'soi sophon'. It's maybe half a km from Sophon market, on the left side as you head in the direction of 3rd Rd. They set up in front of a rather non-descript buy & sell Gold shop, which is normally closed when they're set up in the evenings. Maybe 50 metres up from Chik-a-Boom. Sorry, I don't know Caddy Shack or PRS. I'm heading there tonight, and if I see any more land marks, I'll post more info.

Incidentally, they did used to have their stall set up outside 7/11 right by Sophon Market, so you may well have tasted their offerings. Where they are now, they have more room for tables etc.

    .

  14. Having lived in Pattaya for a while now, I've sometimes struggled to find a decent Pad Thai however, out & about last night, my wife & I found a simple street stall that serves the tastiest Pad Thai that I've ever had. We chatted with the owners, a husband & wife, and learned that he was once a chef in a reputed hotel, but makes a better living via their simple stall (very believable if you are at all close to understanding how underpaid Thai employees are for their long hours). Anyway, his experience certainly comes through in the Pad Thai, and I've yet to try the Suki and the Pad-see-eeow. All looked good, and were under 50 baht.

Anyway, to cut to the chase; give it a whirl and judge for yourself.

They're located on, what the Thais call, Soi Sophon Market. That's the soi that leads up to Thepprasit road from 3rd road (by the market). As you go up, they are on the right hand side, just passed a pub called 'Chik a Boom', and before a pizza place on the left side. It is worth looking for and grabbing a takeaway or eating on their own tables. Enjoy! :jap:

  15. Is anyone using Trueonline 3G in Pattaya?

Spoke to a guy in the Apple Reseller place in Central & he said he is on a plan with unlimited access for just over 700 Baht. I'd kind of like to hear from a few other users regarding reliability & level of coverage first though.

  16. I looked into this when I moved here, but decided that dealing with customs and shipping agents would be fraught with risk.

Do you have many people come on over to see you?

I've a few friends who come and go, and they never mind bringing 5 or 6 kgs of stuff when they do. Over a course of 2 years, I've now managed to get almost everything that I wanted over, plus a good few Amazon purchases on top. It's like having a little Christmas every time they get over too.

    Good luck. B)
