  1. Hi everybody, I am currently overseas and plan to return to Thailand in few weeks time. I am on a Non-O visa that had been extended multiple times based on marriage to a Thai national.

My current permission to stay expires in early July 2022, but since I live in Thailand, I will renew it and continue living there.

I understand that I will need to buy health insurance, but I am not clear for how long. Would buying health insurance until the end of my current permission to stay be sufficient to gain entry into Thailand?

    Many thanks for your help.

Foreign income transferred into Thailand later than the calendar year it's earned, is considered as tax free savings. I.e. if a foreign income is earned in November and is transferred in December it's personal income taxable; whilst if the foreign income from November is transferred into Thailand in January, it's considered tax-free savings.

Hi Kun Per, thank you for your thoughtful answers re taxation of foreign income in Thailand.

Could you provide a source for your statement that transfers of previous years income is not taxable in the next year?

    Many thanks

  3. I transferred THB 20,000 to Australia using both DeeMoney and the K+ (Kasikornbank) App (which allows international transfer from the app), as a test.

    Here are the results:

. The money sent with the  K+ app arrived after 1 day in my Australian account

. The money send via DeeMoney arrived after 18 (!) days in my Australian account. I sent a number of emails to DeeMoney, they talked about operational difficulties...

DeeMoney was 1.5% cheaper than K+, including fees and conversion rates.

I will use K+ for future transfers

  4. Hi everybody,

the recent police order states, among others, that people with an extension based on retirement will need to maintain a minimum balance of THB 400k as of 1 March 2019.

Does this mean that people with extensions based on current law will need to comply as well?

Here is my case,  as an example:

. extension based on retirement expires mid July 2019

. I plan to bring in funds end of March to maintain bank book above THB 800k during April, May and June

. However, the balance of my bank book is now below THB 400k and will be during March

Could this be a problem at my Immigration Office (Udon Thani) when I apply for extension in early July?

    Many thanks

  5. A friend of mine went to Udon Thani Immigration office recently to apply for another 1 year extension of stay based on retirement. He receives a pension in Euros, that due to the currently  strong THB, just falls short to qualify for the income requirements. He offered to deposit the 'gap' of THB 25,000 into a bank account, but immigration requires this amount to be seasoned by 90 days. The seasoning would therefore occur after his extension expires end of September.

Question for you: what are his options, without travelling to his home country? Are there embassies/consulates in the region that would issue a Non O based on retirement without proof of (sufficient) funds, i.e. Savannakhet?  He is well aware of the option of converting a tourist visa to a Non O, but would see this as a last resort at the moment.

    Many thanks for your help!

  6. I live in Udon Thani and travel a lot in Thailand and go overseas several times per year. So I hardly ever do a 90 day report with them.

I never go to Udon Thani Immigration to report my return to Udon.

I did my Extension based on Retirement last week with no word of complaint by Immigration.

I guess I will continue with the above practice.

P.S. For your info, Jo, Udon seems to have stopped the '30 day under consideration practice' for Extensions based on Retirement. I received my 1 year Extension on the spot, and so have a few other fellow.

  7. Hi,

I live in Bangkok and have just received my new Australian passport.

Naturally, my Extension of Stay and last entry stamp are in the old passport.

I will be leaving the country in 2 weeks for a short visit home.

Can I just go to the airport with 2 passports and hope that the airport staff will let me leave (and return) smoothly - or do I have to go to Chaeng Wattana and have the relevant stamps transferred to the new passport.

    Many thanks for your help

  8. After staying In Thailand for 6 months on a 2 entry Tourist Visa plus extension I went back to Sydney where I wanted to pick-up a Non-Imm O Visa in order to start the journey towards extension for retirement. However, the consulate in Sydney rejected my request, without 'supporting evidence'.

Consequently, I returned to Thailand and entered on a Visa Waiver. 1 week of the 4 weeks that I am allowed to stay have now passed. I am staying in the greater Udon Thani area.

Can you please help me charting the best way forward?

    I guess my options include:

. Converting the Visa Waiver to a Non-IMM O which I remember to have read somewhere on this forum. Is this at all possible? If so which Imm Office would do this? Bangkok? Udon Thani

. Applying for a Non-IMM O Visa in one of the adjacent countries. Which Consulate/Embassy is most likely to issue this Visa? I am a bit hesitant now given the Sydney experience.

. Applying for a Tourist Visa in one of the adjacent countries and convert this to a Non-IMM O Visa in Thailand. Would Udon Thani Immigration do this?

    What should I do?

Many thanks for your help, much appreciated.
