  1. I cant comment on Chinese beers has I have never done the monochaser test with them. I never said that all Asian beers stink either. I have stated that all Thai beers are lousy, and they are horrific. Thai beers take 1st prize for worst beers in the world. Japan, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore have all had their beers tasted by me and they have all passed as brewing OK beers

  2. When I first moved to Thailand in '02 a friend recommended the Stick site to me. I read it off and on for a few months and thought, as many in this thread have said, that he and his site were full of shit and useless. Then after living here more than a year, I realized that this guy and info on his site was so incredibly accurate that it blew my mind. Not only was his site so amazingly informative on the country and its people, I had witnessed so much of what I had read that I knew he was spot on. That site along with the book money #1 are staples that no one living in Thailand should be without. Those will guide you down the right path in this land when followed. If you snub them, you are doomed for failure. I always love hearing the typical nonsense about how things here are the same as anywhere else. If you look up load of bunk in websters, you will see that phrase

  3. His weekly column is alright and I enjoy reading about the various nightlife spots. He's done a couple of good interviews as well, the one about Boss Hogg comes to mind and some other bangkok characters.

At least it's more entertaining than reading about the quality of beer in Thailand

Oh he talks about that too

  4. I dont think it is wise to even mention what Thais live on as it is totally irrelevant. A high percentage of farangs cant just pack up from their home countries and expect to live on a thai budget. I think this is ludicrous. Who cares what a Thai budget is, farangs are not Thais and never will be. OK so you get the oddballs who can live on these pittances; these ppl are few and far between and some dont last here very long.

  5. Naturally all that imported stuff they sell goes out of date. They charge 20% more than foodland on the stuff. And as UG stated, the tariffs on the crap is exhorbitant and on top of this they gouge. Now did you really expect them to pull out of code products? LOL. What, did you think this is the US or something? they pull products, they lose money. They will go to the greatest of lengths to make as much as they can and lose not a single baht. I walk into the place from time to time to observe the beer (which of course is horrifically stale) and I always get a kick out of seeing the farangs shopping there as if it were god's gift to BKK shopping. LOL. I was always bewildered how the Villa in Chit Lom basement stayed in business. A crapload of dust collects on the goods in that place. Also, I have never, ever seen a supermarket in a mall in the US, EVER. This must be a Thai concept. No one, I mean no one goes to the mall for groceries. rofLmao

  6. I went to the Stickman site and looked at the readers submissions between June 8th and today.

I thought I would list some of what I found.

Travel article about Cambodia. (no sex)

Article about the new land law. (no sex)

A tribute to Thai women as opposed to New York women.

Another travel article about Cambodia (no sex)

A humorous tale of Japanese businessmen and bar girl humor. (no sex)

An advisory story about pickpockets in Bangkok.

    Land ownership article (no sex)

Two very interesting articles on eating very strange things in Asia including dog and other creatures. (No sex)

An article on Aids in Thailand written by a graduate student.

An article on home repairs. (no sex)

I found the above articles good reading.

As far as Thai’s knowing about politics I have found some that do, most don’t. I don’t see it much different than the West.

Good post. stick provides a wealth of info

  7. jeez,55k,call me a peasant, but im only paying 2000 baht per month, for a very large room with bathroom,in the center of a busy town.

good to hear about the lake fishing in bangkok.something different than the usual.

Good for you pal, that'll keep expenses at bay. My place is 55k for a 165 sq mtr dump in the middle of sukhumvit a stone's throw from the sky train and some key nightlife spots. This area has become shockingly expensive. Believe it or not, at 55k it is actually a good deal compared to other Apts and condos in the area. Nearby 100 sq condos are fetching 40-50k easy so I get a lot more room for same cash and better location

  8. I am sure that a high percentage of this forum would take offense to your remarks. I know that I do. I am 45 with a 22 y/o tgf. So if I take a trip to Pattaya, which I do once in a while, and stoll around with my gf of 3 years, I will be labeled a scum and by gf a prostitute by the mindset you convey. There are labels for this mindset as well but I wont go into that here. All of it is a form of racism

  9. I have been reading Stick for a couple of years now. I read his weekly column. I don't know anyone who reads the reader's submission stuff, oh wait, I know one person now, LOL. Anyway, about a year and a half ago I read something in the weekly column that helped me keep checks and balances in my relationship with a TG. It changed my life. I was able to nip in the bud things that were just beginning to happen. Frankly it caught my TG totally off guard. She was stunned how I discovered some things. I confronted her and layed it all on the line. We are still together. We are happy. I am forever grateful to Stick and TG should be too. He saved her first and foremost and most certainly me. I outta submit this story to his readers submissions in detail and it's all 100% true. I know what's going on thanks to what I read in that column. I owe the guy
