  1. Maybe they heard of Bali. thumbsup.gif

    or Vietnam.

Having been a regular, twice a year, visitor to Phuket since 1996 I gave up on the place three years ago and am so glad I did.

For a city break Saigon beats Bangkok hands down with amazing architecture and some of the best and reasonably priced French resteraunts ever, and the beaches around Da Nang area are hastle free and beautiful.

Another major advantage is an hours less flying from HK.

  2. I want the crowd to come out. I want them to tell me how much they tip, if any. I'm serious. I feel that my Thai friends not tipping is not correct. The people servicing them work hard, some more than others of course, and need the tips to tip the scale of low wages! In any country.

Why don't you just look over some of the 800+ threads on this topic.

Why even bother having this forum.

Sent from my GT-I9505 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

You have a point when all the information he needs is already available and so could avoid cluttering up the forum with useless threads.

  4. Whilst there are no doubt many violent characters in that lovely city, I do not buy the fact that he was just walking along, minding his own business, and suddenly gets attacked out of nowhere.

Unrelated: I think at age 54 it is time to hang up the wife-beater.

And what's wrong with the wife-beater? Some apparel just never goes out of fashion.

Everything is wrong with a "wife beater"! A totally classless item of clothing normally referred to as a vest, and worn under a shirt.

  5.

I agree...we all need to speak such a universal language.

I know if I learnt to read, write and speak fluently it would open doors around the globe for me.

What a hypocrite. You expect non-native English speakers to learn your language when living in your country (and don't deny it) yet if the same is expected of you, you brush it off with a silly comment.

No one said Thai was an international language. It only makes sense if you're going to live here, you're going to simulate in the culture.

Perhaps that's asking too much of you with your walled off home, 2 cars you don't need, 3 TV's and what ever other Western comforts that provides a false security of sanctimonious Superiority over the Thai people and their culture.

    Way to go, Gaijin.

Would you like some vinegar to go with that rather large chip?

  6. 65 million speak Thai, estimates from 480 million to a billion speak English.

Suggest Thai education includes English classes in future!

You are in effect making the argument for everyone learning Mandarin Chinese and adopting that as a world language ... kinda silly.

Not at all. How many countries speak Mandarin? Umm, one? The largest in the world.

How many countries speak English or as a second language and most definitely the language of business?

    More than one?

  7. 13 if they are your wife (with a judges permission)

15 if they are your gf (with parental permission)

20 if they are an employee

Remember, your own countries laws are also in effect, if you ever plan on returning there.

Yes, and a good thing 'your own countries laws are in effect'. Would you even contemplate as an adult having sex with a young teenager in your own country ?? I don't think so.

BTW, the age of sexual consent in the Vatican is 12.

Just goes to show what a bunch or fugging pedophile perverts they all are.

  8. When we joined Bupa we were told that during the first 2 years we would have to first pay any account and then claim it back. I think this is what has happened here.

I think that is still the system for a lot of their plans and not just for two years, it certainly is for mine.

They generally pay up within two weeks of receiving the completed forms.

  9. I have been with BUPA for over two decades and never had any problems with them at all.

All their terms and conditions are clearly laid out as to what they will cover, and as long as you are 100% honest on the application form regarding past medical history you should have no problems either.

Any hint that you failed to disclose that doctors visit 5 years ago for a runny nose, which you may have thought irrelevant, they can and will use as an excuse not to pay out.

  10. I had my house flooded for weeks in 2011 , since that , nothing has been done around my area beside all the promises .... yes I admit , government promises are typical . we still wonder , following the news , if we should bring upstairs again everything .... its like having a Damocles sword over the head all the time and its boring .

After two years, and knowing that the extremes of weather will only get worse, why are you still in your house?

Would not moving to a "safer" area be a sensible thing to do?

  11. Hmm...12 people injured, some due to smoke inhalation..they do not sound "safe" to me.

Most likely, the injured parties were uncouth Chinese passengers, who had opened their seatbelts and trying to collect their carry-on luggage from the overhead storage immediately after the plane touched down....... that is the usual scenario on most Chinese flights.

while pushing and shoving everyone else out of the way , once the seatbelt off signal is given.

You really think they wait for the seatbelt sign to be turned of?? ROFLMAO!

I have seen them get up while the plane is still in reverse thrust mode and the poor staff screaming at them to sit down.

  12. How irrelevant the initial post seems,I will have an avid intrest in the people who contributed to this post

Half of the fellas I recon are the failed school teachers, and the people who bought a cheap 18 year old dolly bird

I found a wife who was not the best looking girl in the bar and counts her blessings she met an idiot felang like me

But together we have built a good life,

And I am so insecure to say that we have a pot full money,,maybe that's why she loves me? Or it could be devilishly good looks ,and an insanely hypnotic personality

So as my credibility is near zero ,,,,you will be hearing a lot more of jimbobs1

Where do you guys all find the 18 year old dolly birds. They don't give me a second glance anymore!!! That really pisses me off.....

Mind you at 52 I really cant expect that....

or maybe I am just too modest.. Anyway.... time for bed all of you... you have skool in the morning, or 18 year old dolly birds in the nest...

I think you will find that they pay for them, in one way or another.

May I suggest that any age gap of more than about ten years, let alone 30+, is highly suspect. Honestly, what does an 18 yo, even an uneducated one, have in common with a 50+ foreigner (probably also uneducated) apart from $$?

  13. Baccara Soi Cowboy, Bangkok. Before: Almost any beverage, water to whiskey was 160 Baht. Now it's 180 Baht. If not for the boys from the Land of the Rising Sun...

Please don't post back and say other countries are this /that, we are here so why compare, only we can compare with how it was 2 years ago. Then check back on all things, food-drink-electric-bottle gas etc.

I would have thought it was very useful information posting alternative places since a large proportion of TV posters seem to be very low income interested mainly in drinking and whoring, both of which can be done considerably cheaper elsewhere nowadays.

  14. At the end of it all, the scams have been running for years and years, and when the figures were 10mn or so, no one really gave a crap. But when you start attracting millions of Chinese, who live on your doorstep, they are not the most worldly travellers yet, and when they get ripped off, the Chinese embassy WILL say something. The media in China goes nuts if any of its tourists get caught up in problems and word spreads like wildfire over there if a place is safe or not.

Not just the media will go nuts, remember what the Hong Kong government did to the Philippines in 2010 after the bus hostage crisis. when a couple of their citizens were shot.

Total black alert on the country whch is still in force.
