  1. With a visa exempt entry, your possible options are

    • Easy one-time 30-day extension
    • Quite easy one-time 60-day extension to visit your (Thai) wife
    • Conversion of your visa exempt entry to a Non Imm entry (takes 15 days and must usually be done in Bangkok) followed by a one-year extension. This requires 400,000 baht in a Thai bank or 40,000 baht per month income, plus a fair bit of paperwork that depends on the local immigration office.
    • Get a single entry Non Imm O visa from a consulate in a neighboring country (easy) and then apply for a one year extension as above.
    • Go to Savannakhet with some reasonably easy to provide paperwork and get a Non Imm O multiple entry visa valid for a year. With this option, you must do a border hop every 90 days. If you travel a lot anyway, I suggest this as simpler than the one year extensions.

    Thank you!

  2. I assume you mean a visa exemption.

If so yes it can be extended for 60 days based on marriage or child with the relevant paperwork and 1900 baht fee.

Yes, pardon me. Visa Exemption on arrival. So 30 days without the relevant paperwork? What if that person needs more time to get the documentation? They are from Italy?

There are no "visas on arrival" for EU citizens because there is no such passport /person .

If you hold a passport from a European country you may (depending on the country) be allowed a "visas exempt entry" which can be extended for 30 days or with adequate proof of marriage/parenthood for 60 days.

So then if they want to change to a spouse visa (Non O I believe) they will need to leave Thailand to apply?

  3. I am sure this question has been answered many times but I can't seem to find the topic. Would be nice to have more pinned common topics :D

Checking to see if a 30 day visa on arrival for an EU citizen (Passport) can be extended at a local immigration office for reasons of marriage or children (legitimized). If so, how long is the extension for? What are the requirements to get the extension (s)?

    Thank you!

  4. Would it do with the birth certificate? And as proof of income would it do with a bank statements from home country showing that I get a pension coming every month?I haven't sorted out a Thaibank yet. Eve been I Thailand for a year now.. And could I try get a new extension? And extent it another 10 months? Now im currently on my 60 days extension
    Thanks guys

For sure you will need to legitimize your child. I just went through the process. It's a legal process where your gf will need to go to court and claim under oath that the child is yours. They will ask her a few questions also. Typically the process (only of legitimization ) takes a minimum of 3 months but more likely 6 months +. I hired an attorney 15,000 baht (some wanted as much as 70,000 so shop around) and I paid extra to get it expedited. This is the most crucial step in getting your extension with immigration.

There is a whole shopping cart of documents etc you will need besides the legitimization documents (it was hell). I highly recommend you go to the immigration office you will be applying for your extension with and ask them exactly what they want. Ask your gf to come with and make sure she gets this persons contact information. You don't want to bounce around to different agents and them constantly requesting different things. Be prepared to be let down and this process to take a long time. This is Thailand.

If you are ready to marry your gf (legally) it would make everything much more simple. If you're not (like me) expect the process to take a very long time.

Feel free to PM me and I will be happy to guide you through what my process was.

  5. Don't tell people our secret! Do that in BKK too. Suckers go in at about 10 AM or even noon and can't get out of their until 1500. I come in about 30 minutes before closing time. Nobody is in line so I breeze right through. Wait about 10-15 minutes then they call my name and I'm out of there in about 20 minutes. It's a great technique, I don't know why other people don't do it.

  6. After the one year extension, do you need to go get another non-o visa? Then go through the whole extension process again? Also, the initial non-O visa is for 90 days yes? So if you get the extension is it 90 days plus one year? Is the extension a multi entry? I am getting mine processed right now. Had TONS of paperwork to do. Had to go to this building then this building then this building lol Wow! It took two days to just apply for my extension. Now there is a 30 day period while they consider my application for extension. So there is an appointment in 30 days after i have applied for my extension.

No need for a new visa. Just apply for new extension during the last 30 days of your current extension.

A extensions start from the date your current permit to stay ends. In your case that would be at the end of your 90 day entry.

You must get a re-entry permit after your extension is stamped to keep it valid if you want to travel. A single costs 1000 baht and a multiple 3800 baht.

The report back date is not an appointment. You can check with your office a few days before that date to find out if they have gotten the approval.

That sure was a lot of hard and confusing work. Sure will be worth it though! !!!!!! Thanks for your help Joe

In order to continually extend visa for being father of Thai child you will need initially a non o visa. The non o can be extended for no more than 1 year.

    To get the non o.

Your regular details for visa + Kids birth certificate, original and copy, copy and original of the house book. All documents (copies of) to be signed. Original and Copy of your partner/wife birth certificate (signed)

I may have went with too much documents..no much is better than too few!

    process year long stay.

400,000 THB in Thai bank account, in your name for 2 or 3 months (immigration law does not actually state a period of time!, but they do ask!)

Child/Children have to be legally yours via sworn family court . statement if under 7 years old or at local amphur if older than 7 years old.

Both processes are straight forward, my little one took 3 months via family court. (Only months old) and 2 court appearances. One of which was an interview

separately (me and the GF) with a legal secretary. Second sworn statement in front of a Judge..who looked oddly like OJ Simpson!

With that extra piece of paper work, you can get an extension for one year. You will need other stuff when applying, like proof that you are living together,

photo (2) of you and child and mother together recently taken, and the poo yai ban to sign a declaration that you live together as a family.

Also, be required to draw a map on how to get to the house where you live.

As far as I know you can renew indefinitely your 60 day extension, (renew many times over without leaving the country) but that may depend on you initially having a non o visa in the first instance. Also gonna eat up the pages in your passport!

8. Just returned from BP-H and my appointment with Dr. Anna. She seems quite competent and has a good command of the English language. To laser off six moles/skin tags cost B11,000. Seemed like a lot, but I've been delaying this for so long, I just said "okay, do it."

She said the lump on my face is not a lipoma (It seemed to fit all the descriptions I found online -- just goes to show...) and preferred that I go to a Plastic Surgeon for its removal as she said they are much more skilled at minimizing scars than she is. I thought it was refreshingly honest for her to admit that.

She referred me to Dr.Terrasut and highly recommended him as the best. He agreed it was not a lipoma. When I asked what it was, he said they wouldn't be sure until they removed it and sent it to histology. How much will this cost? I hope you are sitting down: B37,000 not including medications and histology. I asked for an estimate of histology cost and was told about B3,000. Yikes! US$1,000 to remove an unsightly bump on my face. I made an appointment for Thursday, but am not 100% sure I'll follow through. Left brain is saying "It's not worth it," and right brain is saying "Go ahead, and get it over with."

I saw Dr. Anna again after Dr.Terrasut, and told her I was shocked at the cost. She said she could do it for about B15,000 but that the scar from her procedure would not be nearly as good as a plastic surgeon. I'm not *too* vain about my looks, but not sure just how macabre a scar could be.

What a ripoff. Pyathai in Sriricha has a plastic surgery dept. I'd consult them first if you want to go the plastic surgery route. Seems it'd be trivial.

I went to their department and for 20-25 they wanted 150,000 Baht. Yes That's about $5k USD. I'll be looking for someone else. My lipomas are 1-3CM. This was for local anesthesia
  9. If you want a single entry non-o visa you can go to most nearby locations to get it.

For multiple entry non-o Savannakhet is your only choice and you will need to take your family with you to get it. They will issue them based upon being the parent of a Thai if you prove you are living together as a family (de facto marriage).

Penang is a possibility with financial proof.

I was able to get the Visa with a minor problem. I forgot a copy of my wife's ID and they also wanted a copy of her families book. (Her mom and fathers). They lady was nice enough to stamp me as I did promise to bring them the next day.

Anyway, I believe I have two more weeks to wait until I receive the legitimization documents for my son. I have a little less than 30 days before my visa expires. Should I go to my immigration office before and explain the situation?

I'm going for a one year extension.

So it's all the same documents PLUS the legitimization documents? (Typically? ) Does my gf/sons mom need to come with and bring anything?

    Thanks UBON JOE!

  10. ^ would you need a letter from your school saying that you're no longer studying there to do this marriage extension? has anyone else done this before?

If you are on an extension of stay for attending school CW will no longer change the reason for an extension. A report about this was made recently.

If you are on a ED visa entry they may still do it. In this case a letter would not be needed.

I'm on my last week of my student visa (my first single entry) 90 days. I just had a son and I really don't want to go to Vientiene or any other Embassy to do the whole apply for visa thing. I have a copy of my Thai son's BC and his house record book.

Can I just leave the country (airport) and come back the same day for a visa on arrival. Then go to immigration and apply for an extension based on having a child? Or do I need to do the whole non immigration O single entry route.

    Thanks

  11. Although not for this specific reason, but the rumour of withholding tax on EU "citizens" even if your not resident in the EU, some years back I pulled the plug on all my accounts in jersey and the IOM and shifted the lot to Singapore

I am thinking along the same lines, i am supposed to be a premier customer so i dread to think about the entry level service

What's your thoughts on a decent bank in Singapore, I have currency in USD, AUD, GBP. I get almost nothing in interest for my USD & GBP from Jersey but the account in OZ pays 3.25 for a 1 year TD lock in

I day rate in the O&G sector so my payment is in USD. I am holding a UK passport.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe ALL banks world wide are following the US IRS lead with FATCA. The only non compliant countries were China and Russian. But I do believe China is on board now too.

  12. MEthinks thai netizens need to chill out a bit.

Thai people don't realize the golden opportunities they have here to make some fun YouTube videos. I love playing them at their own game. If they're yelling across the airport terminal I do it too. Just for fun. It's awesome to see their reactions. If I was at the CM airport I would've run out and got some super large nickers and laid them our right on top of hers. haha

    Long live Mr. BEAN!

  13. You might need to hire a family lawyer but for me I didn't. I am not expert about visa's, just my experience according to my situation.

My son was born in Bangkok and both of his mother name and my name were put in the Thai Birth Certificate. My son also using my Family name, not his mother family name. When I divorce few years later, it is written on the divorce certificate issued by the Amphur that I have 100% of the legal right for my son. I used a lawyer for the divorce and asked him to make sure that I have the legal right for my son.

As for the visa Non O based on child, as I mentioned in my previous post, it seems to really depends on each Thai Embassies. The first time I applied for such visa, I prepared a nice introduction letter to the attention of the Honorable Consul, explaining my situation and that I would be ready to present any justification needed. They just asked me to provide a copy of the Thai Birth certificate of my son and they will issue the visa. Another consulate was asking me to present the original Thai Birth certificate while I was presenting only a copy. In Yangon, when I called the Thai Embassy and inquired about this visa, they told me that they were issuing only 6 months visa. After explaining that I got in the past several 1 year multi entries from other embassies, and that I am currently based in Myanmar with a Myanmar 1 year business visa multi, then they issued a 1 year multi Non O based on child for me.

Your case is different because you were married to you child's mother which makes you the legal father of your child.

If not married to the child's mother it requires the fathers parenthood be legitimized to become the legal father.

I met with the attorney today.. First he wanted 20,000 baht (15,000 + 5000 to get 'expedited' court service.) I quickly said normal time is fine. He really tried to sell me on the quick service. Anyway, it seems like a sign and stamp type of operation if both parties are in agreement. No DNA test is required and it should all take about 50 days. (30 days was expedited).

Anyone have the latest on which embassy to go to for a no hassle visa? I have been to Vientiene and I thought it was okay. Maybe a city a little more interesting? Ho Chi Minh?

    Cheers.

  14. No sure if that can help but i have a non O one year multiple entries based on child and i already had several same type of visa in the past few years. I am not married and my son was born in Bangkok from Thai mother. He is now 15 years old. I am also working sort of offshore, by contracts in different countries everytime. I got such visa then from different Thai consulate, depending where i was located for my work, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Russia...Note that I have a French passport. The last 2 non O 1 year multi entries i got was issued by the Thai consulate in Yangon as i am currently working in Myanmar.

    To apply, i provide:

    - introduction letter addressed to the Consul explaining my situation

    - copy or original (depends on the consulate) Thai Birth certificate of my son

I always also prepare a copy of my working contract or bank statements ( Thai or not) anything that can show my regular incomes but it has never been required. Just in case...

Some consulates stated in their website or communication that they are not issuing 1 year visa or multi entries such as Yangon but when i told them that i got such visa in the past from others consulates, they then issued 1 year non o multiple entries.

1 year non o multiple entries cost me 200 USD

Can you please provide a link to this information? I'm on an ED visa now and just had a son and would like to get a visa based on caring for him. Is there someone I can hire to help me do all this?

    Thank you

  15. @blanes2007, I must have been confused with the pricing. I meant double price as in 40-50k baht for the year.

I spoke to some Language Schools and even the Schools do not confirm 3 month extensions, they say up to Immigration, so I doubt that any company can guarantee the three month extensions.

May be get 2 Double Entry Tourist Visa, that would cover also for a whole year.

I have thought about this, but am genuinely interested in learning Thai properly and adding it to my CV. While I could come in on tourist visas and learn from a private tutor, I figured a language school would still be the best bang for my buck.

Are double entry visas easy to acquire? I heard they are not given in neighbouring countries anymore, so if I was to take this route where would be best for me to go?

I am going to follow up with the company that offered to do these extensions for me and will keep you all updated.

Don't stress about getting a double entry visa.. 99% you get a single entry. It's just easier for them and seems to be a standard across the board. Easy enough to go the airport or back to immigration to get re-entry permits.

If you want to leave the country via airport, best thing to do is to go to the visa re-entry desk. Doesn't take more than about 20 minutes (at the most). You can get a single entry or multi entry permit depending on your needs. Multi entry is about 3200 baht. Single I believe is about 1500 baht. Available to the expiry date of your 90 day check in.

Where can one find a good agent? I'm in the Chonburi area (use Pattaya immigration)

  17. @yougivemebaby I agree with your ideas. Unfortunately, that would result in us being an agency which we are not in the business of doing.

We are purely engaged in the training aspect of the course.

However, I will definitely propose your ideas to our CEO. Thank you.

You or a friend should start a sister company or partnership as a job placement company. I think it would be highly lucrative.

  18. Looks like your system is working. SMH facepalm.gif

Ignorant people with power is very dangerous. Makes me shocked that people don't face scientific facts about drug addicts and drugs. People addicted to drugs can not control themselves. It's a genetic condition. Not a choice. The people that may want help are forced to hide their addiction for fear of their lives.

Some people are too stubborn to realize when they're wrong. They are fighting a losing battle. Time to go back to the war room fools.

  19. You could also offer a part time position to a potential customer by giving them a reduced rate. Paying the nanny juuuust a little to survive on for a month or two. And offering the customer a 5,000 baht per month discount. Thus nearly eliminating your risk.

I think paying an extra 5,000 baht per month would be worth my child's safety. I would say more than 99% of the nanny's now don't have a clue what to do in an emergency except LINE or FB their friends.

  20. Are there employers out there willing to pay for the Nannies to get a proper training?

I think you're going about this from the wrong angle. You should absolutely be hiring out these girls on a contract basis. I think there is a market for people who are willing to pay more of a premium for a nanny who knows CPR, English, etc. You would make your money back more than 10 fold in this investment. No one will be willing to front the money for the nanny to go to a school because she could jump ship right after her training. This would increase your risk but decrease your customers risk.

There must be some incentive to want to train the Nanny's. That should be that you have a contract with them to work for you for a certain period of time and you will get a portion of the income. Far more people are looking for a nanny (or highly qualified one), than they are looking to train their current nanny.

    Example,

Your cost of training a nanny is 10,000 baht. This is your total risk. Plus the cost of acquiring the customer. (which I don't think is very high) If she has a contract to work for you for one year @ 15- 20,000 baht per month (cost of nanny to customer) and you keep a large portion of the money in the beginning say 7,000-8,000 per month. The first month you've nearly covered your costs AND the next month you've cleared a profit. Incentive for the Nanny to stay would be job security and and subsequent months or quarters, would receive a raise.

Of course you would need to try to have a minimum of two or three months agreement with the customer.

I think your idea of having quality nanny's qualified and trained is a great idea. Making an awesome Youtube video (without scaring the crap out of the parents) would be a good place to start your marketing. Making them sexy doesn't hurt either.

Generally if you know Thai people well, you can find a nanny for around 8,000 a month. I think with someone being qualified in CPR and other qualities they could be marketed for about 12-15,000 baht. IF you want to take off.

Honestly I think your current model will not work. Nanny's in Thailand can't afford it. Many Nanny's are also immigrants that can't even come close to affording it. So you need to be able to take the risk. I think it would be worth it though. Especially if you did a nationwide placement service. There are expats with kids all over Thailand and the major cities are developing more and more and able to afford this luxury.

    Good luck to you!
