It's not. I remember reading on here about people getting asked to show cash. So on my next entry i looked all around swampy airside to see if you could get money out anywhere. Not a single ATM anywhere but there were booths. Being a kasikorn account holder myself I asked her if i could get money out and she said you can't.

I don't think I can get cash with debit card from the bank if ATM is down.

Because the older members are probably working, retired or are on married extensions and don't have passports full of VE's or SETV's.

I am 67 on a straight retirement extension from the same Immigration office and last time I went to report 90 days the female officer said to me You should leave Thailand You have been here too long'  meaning do a visa run.

It would be smart for them to do it.

A lot of this is obviously about the money so just charge approx. 3 times as much that they do now for the one year.

With this, they have the money up front as opposed to the unknown of people leaving/overstaying during that time.

Hope they do it a win win it seems.

They want long stay people to leave.

  4. The HMRP songtheaw does not go to Ban Phe, but it will go almost there for an extra 50bt or so. Then you need to walk around 1/2km to get the BP one. Typical local taxi mafia...

HMRP is slowly getting a little more developed - there's even an Indian restuarant along there now!

    Indian restaurant 'Purple Haze'

has a 10% surcharge on menu prices for farangs; yes it says so somewhere on menu but I never saw it.

  5. UK license is not worth anything here. IDP I am not sure, maybe. They do check if something is a bike license is not only car in some cases.

You can do that but it's easier and faster to just show them the rental contract (assuming you are renting something).

I see. And currently no I'm living at GFS house. That's why !

Either get added to the house book or make a rental contract with her (consider tax liability though).

Farang cannot 'be added' to House book.

  6. Yeah...and Christmas should be about love and understanding and families, being together...

...but it IS about gifts and food and ...more gifts!

I have nothing against either festival and people, who want to celebrate them either way: go ahead!

But don't tell others what to do!

    Each to their liking!

    Christrnas should be about Christ

  7. I know that the Russians who bought up a lot of property here 4 or 5 years back will be rubbing their hands now. If they cash in their chips now they will double their money. That's what i would be doing considering the only reason all this is happening is purely down to political sanctions and oil prices. When these sanctions are lifted the currency will return to stability.

Putin might live a long time !

  8. Apart from the phrase "tax to be limited to just 1 home" there does not seem to be any information given about this limitation at all.

It's very odd in that in most countries there would be an exception for just one home, rather than limiting the tax to just one home.

I wonder if it is a bad translation?

Not necessarily a bad translation, just a vague waffling about what may or may not happen. If you read through the way it is written and take it literally, it would be in everyone's interest to build a hovel in their back garden. YOU don't understand? Nobody understands what the hell they are doing.

No Farang understands anything that any Thai people do.

  9. If they are held and criminally charged with overstaying, as opposed to simply paying the fine to immigration on the way out, then they have been convicted of a criminal offence and can be barred from Thailand on those grounds.

So the 'overstay, pay, go and receive a ban' proposals which were never enacted don't apply in this case.

Having said that, who decides if a person convicted of a criminal offence should be barred from Thailand? Is it the court, is it immigration or can it be either? I would not put it past immigration to put stamps in passports that strictly they had no right to put in there.

I would not start arguing with immigration in the UK about stamps they put in my passport let alone Thai immigration , ........ THIS IS THAILAND .....
