I'm looking for a hotel in or near Khon Buri.
Somewhere clean and comfortable (comfortable bed), with air con and a fridge.
We did stay once in, I think it was called, Khon Buri Resort but the bed was very hard and there was a strong smell in the air from a nearby processing place.
We have also stayed at The Korat Resort which is very good, but a 45 minute drive from Khon Buri.
Grateful for any recommendations.
Thanks

My Thai wife and I (we're in UK) want about a 50 day visit family / holiday, but leaving soon, around 10 - 15 February. (wife worried about her mum).
Checking Thai Embassy visa website, it's a bit short notice to get a 60 day tourist visa. Plus I need to show tickets to apply for a Tourist Visa, and I don't want to buy tickets until sure everything else works out OK.
If I enter on the 30 Day visa exempt basis, is it easy to extend that these days?
We will be staying near Jomtien and visiting family in Korat. The last time I went to Jomtien immigration it was bursting with people and took ages. Would it be easier to go to immigration in Korat? (never tried there before).
Grateful for any advise please.

F/Book Bangsaray Houses For Rent
Thanks for your reply, but I have looked and only found longer term rentals so far, not the 3 months we're looking for. Why I'm asking locals if they know of anything.

I live in Bang Sarey and all the nice Villas with pools are on East side of Sukumvit ,,as far as I know, on West side there are condos , rooms ,,but when you say Dark side it is not Pattaya its just a nice area actually prettier than the west beach side sprall Bang Sarey is a small place ,
Thanks for your reply.
I agree it is nice there, great views, and I shouldn't have called it the dark side, not at all like some of the the dark side of Pattaya.
However, I'd rather stay where I don't have to cross Sukhamvit to get to the see front, market etc.

I'm looking for something like a 'villa' with pool to rent from December 2023 for 3 months.
Can anyone suggest a place please. We would want to be in the area between Bang Sare beach road and Sukhamvit, (not the 'dark side').
Thanks

I applied for mine in March 2020 it's blue.
Thanks for that, I should certainly get a blue one by now then.
About how long did it take? Maybe you applied before lockdown?

reading the uk newspapers it seems that they are months behind in the issuing of any passports or driving licences.
Thanks. Yes I've read about the backlog due to Covid19, but I'd like to know, if I apply for one now' what colour it would be. I understand they were going to use-up all the old red ones first, I presume they've done that by now. Then the passport office said that after March they would all be Blue, but apparently that wasn't always the case a couple of months or so ago. So 'm hoping someone reading this has recent experience of applying for a passport in the UK.

I've read a couple of reports over the last few months about the new blue British passports being delayed for various reasons.
If anyone here applied for a British passport recently, what colour did you receive Red or Blue?
I'm in the UK, need a new passport but as I can't go anywhere yet I might as well wait until the new Blue version is being issued,
Thanks

Sorry if this has already been asked before, I haven't read all previous posts.
I returned to the UK 2 weeks ago. As I write this the latest news is that the UK has 1,140 confirmed cases of Covid19 with 37,746 people tested.
It is accepted here that the real number may be at least 10 times more.
In Thailand the reported cases are only 82! We accept that The Thai number is just made-up, and even if it was a scientifically calculated amount, there might be at least 10 times that number over there also.
Has anybody on here seen any sign of the virus yet? That is know of somebody who has it, or has been to a hospital for another reason but seen evidence of people with the virus there?
Just wondering if any change since I left there.

Monday: I posted my Non-Imm. O Type Single Entry visa application.Tuesday: (as in my previous post) my application status was shown as 'Print Sticker'.Later on Tuesday I found in my junk folder this email:Request for Further documentTue 22/10/2019
Dear Applicant,
Please ignore this email.
*Please note this is an auto generated e-mail. Please do NOT reply to this email.
Best wishes,
E-visa TeamAs instructed I ignored it - as much as I could, but couldn't help thinking F.F.S and the words 'Pi$$-up' and 'Brewery' sprang to mind.
Wednesday: Status still 'Print Sticker'.
(By the way, that screen that comes up after making
payment which says “Please stay on this page. It may take a few minutes.” I'd forgotten that Window and opened it 2 days later to find it was still going!)
Thursday: The status is still 'Print Sticker' whereas in Senior Player's case, his status had changed to 'No data available in table'. Hmmm so my sticker must be a pretty big and sticky sticker, or they have an extremely slow printer.
I'm starting to worry that I shouldn't have ignored the email that they told me to ignore.
In previous years it's always been a fast turn around, particularly from the excellent Hull Consulate.
With this new online application system, and not being confident that I did everything correctly, I am a little concerned!
Thursday: About 16.50 the status changed to 'Return Passport'.
Friday: Yippeeee! About 12:30 passport returned via Royal Mail Special Delivery - with my visa. Phew!

Hi guys, I am in the process of applying for a METV online
When uploading the documents, it doesn't let me add multiple jpg files, just one...
How can I send all this info with 0.5mb jpgs for each section when I need to send 6 months worth of bank statements, employment letter, proof of salary etc
Has anyone dealt with this before?
OR should I just send ALL the supporting documents in the post when I send my passport?
Appreciate if anyone knows, need to send this asap as flying next month
Yes, I think that's the case - send it all in with your passport. If you check my post before yours you'll see I was asking the same-same question.
I eventually forced everything I could into their 'online system', finally got it through, printed it, and sent Royal Mail Special Delivery yesterday. I checked earlier, saw they had received it and in the status of 'Checking Documents'. I just checked again and it says 'Print Sticker' which, in Senior Players excellent guide, he reckons is visa sticker printed. So I'm hoping that is the case and y application is successful.
I did enclose a covering letter with mine with my own check-list of included documents. My application is for an O Type single entry. On their sheet with my photo's on they say 'By Post enclose 1) Bar Code 2) Passport 3) GBP £10 Cash 4) Return address'. That's all they ask for. So my check list on my covering letter starts with those 4 items then (after checking what the consulate asks for on their website for my visa type) I added 5) Photocopy of wife's Thai ID card (both sides) 6) Photocopy of our Thai marriage certificate (both sides) 7) My 3 months worth of bank statements which was 7 pages.
Hope this info helps somebody. I'll let you know if I do get my visa!

Think you are taking them a bit too literally! But I can understand why.... first page only. It's what I did and when I went there on Monday they just saw I had a pile of copies in a folder, checked the application on their screen, told me to collect the next day. Never even took a look at the copies.
Also, scan/photo no difference as far as the file is concerned, they are not requesting only PDF's which would be the case if they only wanted scans.
Thanks Roamer. After 25 years I have learnt that you have to take Thai government instructions literally!
"*Please scan and attach in proper manner otherwise your application will be REJECT"
I'm applying by post, so I won't be going to the embassy with a bunch of documents. So I guess I'll send 'em in with my passport and hope that's OK.
The problem is the instructions on how to apply don't go into enough detail. It's all supposed to be so easy peasy like 1,2,3 and they have that childish cartoon video. There is a message box at the bottom right of the application pages where you can ask questions. Problem is they don't answer them!

HELP! On applying for my online visa as mentioned above, Step 5 downloading documents, they want 3 months of Bank Statements this came to 7 pages which I downloaded. Now in 'Preview' mode I can only see the one first page of a bank statement. It does say 'Statement's', so they're expecting more than one page. I don't know if they can view them all?
Does any body know about this please?

So it's OK to take a photo instead of scanning documents?
I don't see why not as long as the image is clear, either way they're JPG images, but this statement from the application website made me unsure (in case they could tell if the image was a photo not a scan):
Please scan and attach in proper manner otherwise your application will be REJECTED
"Scan in the proper manner"! It would fit in with my experience of 'Thainess' if they rejected the image if they could tell it was a photo instead of a scan????. Has this worked OK for others?
While I'm here with the experts, just to confirm: My Thai wife and I are planning our usual 3 month (88 day) visit to Thailand. I'm trying to apply online for a Non-Imm. 'O' Type Single entry visa. We'd like to do a short trip to Vietnam. Although it's a Single Entry Visa I'm applying for, am I right we can go to Vietnam after about 60 days, and return to Thailand on the (30 day visa exemption) to finish our visit?

sounds to me that the op could avoid half of his dependency on his wife by having made an effort with the language and asking others directly. Eg for directions.
Personally, the kind of relationship described is my idea of a living hell.
Jeez, why would you marry someone who doesn't even answers your questions ?
7 hours ago, HooHaa said:Presumably she answered one.
Well I have made an effort to learn the language but my wife still speaks better Thai than me. I could have asked the example question "Do they have this item in white" (it was just an example of how a simple question it could be to answer).
My wife does answer most everyday questions. Just sometimes I have to ask 2 or 3 times to get a firm answer.
Yesterday I asked if she would like a cup of tea and she said she might have a banana. I said would you like a cup of tea with your banana? She said she didn't know. I said 'well who should I ask then?' Things like that. A little annoying at times, but is my life Hell? Hell NO!!
I'm a very lucky man and my wife is a joy to be with 99% of the time. We've been together 14 years - the best years of my life.
I was just answering the OP's question.

She hates answering questions as well as asking them.
Let's start with answering questions.
There are a few options regarding how she might react, none of them good I am afraid.
The most common is to answer the question with another question.
Q: are you going to visit your friend later today?
A: why?
Yet, if she doesn't like the question, for whatever unknown reason, the answer is more brutal.
Q: are you going to visit your friend later today?
A: why do you ask? this is not your business!
In another option, she makes up the answer though not to have to search for it.
Q: are the neighbors going to the temple this morning?
A: yes!
Yet in fact they are not going...
She also does that when I ask her to translate a question of mine to a third party.
Q: ask the monk if he would like to visit our house.
A: yes he would!
Q: but you didn't ask him! ask please.
A: he says he doesn't have the time
Let's now move to asking questions.
With friends and relatives there are never any questions asked, other than related to money, that is.
After spending a good half hour talking on the phone, I come with my stupid practical questions.
Q: so your sister is on the road to visit us, will she stay for dinner, overnight...(or any other issue you might think about)?
A: I didn't ask (the answer is always this one)
Now, out in the wild world, I sometime have to force her to ask a question to a stranger.
It feels like she'd rather eat a bar of soap.
For example, I am driving in some city, looking for a place where I have never been before.
Q: let me stop and you go ask directions to this guy
A: why don't you turn around a little bit, I am sure we are close.
After finally gathering the strength to go ask someone, it turns out that we were on the wrong side of the city.
One last point.
Being a simple and practical guy, I try to generally formulate my questions so that they can be answered with a few words, or even a simple yes or no.
Well, once my question is delt with between my wife and other Thais, it often takes a good ten minutes of talking to get an answer.
Is your personal experience similar to mine, or is my wife a special case (lucky me!)?
Yes, my experience is very similar to your yours and it's interesting to find that you and others have this problem. I'd wondered if it was something to do with the way Thai people communicate with each other. I often have to ask my wife a question 3 or 4 times before I get a straight answer. She now lives and works in the UK , her English is excellent so it isn't a matter of not understanding.
This was particularly frustrating when we were renovating our condo some years back. I had to source every item needed and it took a lot of work. e.g. we would be in HomePro or similar store, I'd ask her to ask a store assistant an easy question, maybe something like 'do they have this item in white?' She would be very reluctant to ask but when she did they would talk for about 15 minutes, and often after all that... she still didn't have an answer!

Have seen similar happenings where a solitary cup is next to a water jug or dispenser and all drink from the one cup . Would you accept this and use the cup ?
No, in 20 years I have never sat at a restaurant table as a guest of Thai people.
I've always been the one who has to pay!

jeab1980, when you replied to my original post:
"Havent heard that one for at least a week! The old are the best. I always start laughing at the "a friend of mine" line.", you as good as said that you don't believe me, which would mean you think that I'm a liar. That was the only 'point' you made. I'm certain a lot of people would be offended by that, but you are proud of being 'thick skinned'.
Unfortunately I'm not currently in Thailand. I'm working and too busy to bother with this anymore. So I'll let you have the last word.
I'm sure that's important to you.

Don't you have any friends to tell you things?
I have only heard this story once. That was from my friend that it happened to.
It was about 12 years ago on Jomtien Beach Road.
You must become amused very easily. I hope you find this post funny also.
Keep laughing.

My wife told me a story many years ago which really shocked me at the time.
A man from the next village crashed his pickup on the way home one night (probably drunk). He was badly injured and trapped in the vehicle. He was relieved when he saw some men emerge from the bushes, thinking that help had finally arrived. How wrong he was.
They sole everything. They took money from his pockets, and anything they could carry from his truck. Then they just left him.

I once saw an accident happen right in front of me while waiting at a red light in Udon, a car clipped a motorbike in an illegal right of way move. With the women writhing on the ground in front of me, I instinctually got off my bike to lend assistance. Within seconds I was surrounded and held by a group of locals all pointing and angrily screaming at me, immediately assuming I was to blame.
I waited several anxious minutes until the woman could finally muster a response and indicate that it was not me! Thankfully she waved them off me. Before the days of CCTV, I can imagine the mess I would have been in if she had not clearly responded.
Its a shame, as I will never stop to do the same again. Not worth it. Sadly, I'll just drive off next time.
A similar thing happened to a friend of mine. He stopped to help a girl who had fallen off a motorbike. The police quickly arrived and the girl was happy for my innocent friend to take the blame leading to the police fining him and insisting he paid her hospital bill!

I might need to extend a tourist visa. We will staying near Jomtien, but it was so busy at Jomtien immigration last time I went there (pre-pandemic).
As we will be visiting family near Korat, I was wondering how things are there? Is it usually easy there?
Thanks for any advice.
